It's a new season!

Nothing better than talking Class 1 hoops from the "Hickorys" of the world and small town pride!

I was typing my ROMAN post to get 10,000 views to have you "ostracized" from the site for 10 years....GUILTY OF CONTINUING A POST PAST IT'S 12 MONTH SHELF-LIFE.

Banish you to the lesser basketball webpages of Arkansas or Guatemala

But I am happy to see you started a new post.

Well, just to start it off, since I love class 1 ball, I will say Meadville is headed to another successful year.

They lost some leadership from last year but will step up and continue on.

Record from last 10 years...... 255 wins, 36 losses, for a percentage of .876

Let's roll

I haven't really took the time this year to do much calculating. Our opponents have lost several quality players to graduation last year, as have we. Things look pretty good with the kids coming up, so I look forward to a successful season.

As far as the biggest challengers in our area, we'll just assume they all are. :)

shall we make some notes on these teams (and maybe some people can fill in gaps)

Here is last year's final Maxpreps Standings:
1 Advance 28-7- Lost Wuebker and Mayo, who are two very big pieces, didn't show much depth (6 man rotation) so I think they drop down quite a bit. Do return two really good guards
2 North Andrew (Rosendale) 29-2-return everyone from all accounts posted, so should be right there
3 Walnut Grove 31-3- Defending champion, Lost their bruiser inside, but keep player of the year and Very good Point guard..and those 3 point snipers
4 Scott County Central (Sikeston) 19-8-Probably my early favorite in SE region with Advance dropping a bit. It was reported on here one of their starters is playing for Sikeston this year, so stay tuned on that.
5 Hermitage 27-4- From what I know, they were all seniors pretty much, so they will be rebuilding
6 Risco 25-3- I know they lost a little, but quietly had a really good season in SEMO, might be the favorite this year from there, not sure.
7 Glasgow 22-5- lost 4 starters to graduation with little depth, should be a rebuilding year
8 Worth County (Grant City) 22-8- Return everyone on their team, could give North Andrew a challenge in NWMO
9 Braymer 21-7-lost 6-6 post and 6-4 wing player, should be down quite a bit this year
10 Winston 21-1- Lost a couple big pieces in graduation, but also retain a few, still look for them to have a good season
11 South Iron (Annapolis) 21-6 - ???
12 Greenfield 16-3 Return an all state and all district player, should still be in the hunt, but have to get by Walnut Grove
13 Wheatland 17-6 ???
14 Meadville 25-5- reported to have lost some to graduation, but have size and are well coached in a wide open NE region
15 Northwestern (Mendon) 24-3-???
16 St. Joseph Christian (St. Joseph) 16-8- Lots of stories about this program getting in some new talent, could be a challenger in NWMO, but I'll defer to Hoops tourney for this
17 South Holt (Oregon) 15-5-Lost their best player to graduation, but still have some very good pieces and will challenge in the same district as North Andrew and SJ Christian.
18 Jamestown 17-8- I saw elsewhere they return all 5 starters and had a great run last year. Maybe the favorite in NE quarter?
19 Eminence 13-9- Made a deep run in SEMO last year...but who do they return?
20 Jefferson (Conception Junction) 15-11- Historically successful and solid program. Lose some to graduation, but also have some good youngsters
21 Mercer 19-5- lost best scorer to graduation and will be rebuilding
22 Bradleyville 16-8 ???
23 Chamois 15-9 ???
24 Leeton 20-5 Always have a good record, but always have to get by Walnut Grove...don't know much else
25 King City 13-14 -Lost a lot to graduation

some of this stuff is just hearsay or opinion, don't get at me too bad about it. I'd love to be corrected and the dots filled in. Anyone else we need to worry about? Some more schools need to put in their data on Maxpreps!

-looking at you St. Elizabeth, Scott County! :)

Also told that Dora in SEMO has some good young talent

St E & Jamestown will probably be favorites in that District. Give a slight edge to Jamestown w/ all 5 starters back. St. E lost a key starter and has a brand new coach. Keep an eye on both teams during the season. I think they are both top 1A teams.

I don't really follow Class 1 hoops much to be perfectly honest, but it is true that Dora has a lot of good young players coming in. The Luna triplets are now freshmen and Haney, freshman PG, is really good. I don't know enough about the rest of the team or who is in their district to make any kind of prediction, but they will be really good in the future.

Mound City does return one of there top scorers though. And with how the football team performed I’d take them to win that district as well.

I read it wrong. I thought it was Worth County. I saw Jefferson play this summer. I believe they beat Mound City again like last year.

Preseason Top 10 is out

1 Walnut Grove

2 North Andrew

3 Greenfield

4 Scott County Central

5 Eminence

6 Worth County

7 Risco

8 Jamestown

9 Dora

10 St. Elizabeth

Any thoughts?

It's definitely a variety of schools on the list and last year's senior heavy teams are now off the list, which is an improvement over last year I think. After the two final four teams at the top, I think most of the rest we will just have to wait and see

so, here are my Class 1 Marquee Matchups.

Note: Please let me know of any other good ones to go see. I'm needing some help with Greenfield...didn't see any big games on the schedule. Also keep in mind the rankings are for the preseason (we know how accurate those are) and there will be lots of other good matchups in tournaments not listed!

11/21 St. Elizabeth v. Jamestown (#8 v. #10)

11/25 Advance v. Eminence (last years #2 v. #5)

12/5 Risco v. Oran (#7 v. Class 2 Champion last year)

12/5 Logan-Rogersville v. Walnut Grove (Class 4)12/8 Woco v. Maryville (class 3)

12/8 Mound City v. Jefferson (District 16 Title Game a year ago)

12/12 North Andrew v. Woco (#2 v. #6)

12/19 Jefferson v. North Andrew Quarterfinal Matchup a year ago

1/6 Walnut Grove. V. Mid Buchanan @ St. Joseph, MO (#1 v. Ranked Class 2)

1/12 La Plata v. Meadville (Class 2 versus NEMO contender)

1/23 St. Joseph Christian V. Winston (last year’s #5 v. Up and coming program)

1/29 SCC v. Advance (last year #2 v. current #3)

1/29 Eminence v. Dora (#5 v. #9)

1/30 Mercer V. Winston (last year’s #5 v. Possible final four team in NE)

2/2 St. Elizabeth v. Chamois (#8 v. district champion last year)

2/6 Dora v. Walnut Grove (#1 v. #9)

2/9 Walnut Grove v. Hartville (#1 v. Class 2 #1)

2/9 SCC v. Oran (#4 v. Class 2 #4)

Let me know what I missed!!

Greenfield plays Pierce City and Lockwood in the same week at the end of January, both teams that won their District in Class 2, and return a lot. It should be a competitive week..

Do you think Greenfield matches up well to Walnut Grove this year?
Time will tell...Both have a prolific scorer that score from about anywhere on the court. WG has more experience at the varsity level where Greenfield is a little green. I think WG's secondary shooters are more consistent. When the White kid gets healthy, Greenfield I think as the advantage inside.

I still think WG has the advantage. Both play tough schedules, with WG maybe being a little tougher. Greenfield plays in a tough conference, with PC and Lockwood being teams that could win their district again. Also play in always the competitive Stockton and Marionville Tournaments. Should be a fun one.

Saw St. Joseph Christian last night. My conclusion is that they have a lot of potential, but it is hard to tell due to competition. Thy have 5 players (including 3 starters) in their main rotation that were not on the team (Varsity or JV) at the end of last year. The best players are Tucker who is a junior and Jeter who is a freshman. Maggart looked improved also. I think they will be a better outside shooting team than last year. I am not sure they have enough to challenge North Andrew, but they have the talent for an upper division finish in the GRC West which is absolutely loaded this year.
