Every spring high schools across the state of Missouri send an enrollment number to MSHSAA (current 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students). With that number mshsaa places schools in classifications, based on size for state competition.

Dese collects data from school districts across the state of Missouri, one of which is enrollment data taken in the spring.

Logically speaking… if you add up the 9th, 10th, and 11th grade spring 2023 dese enrollments of a school, it should be very close to the 2023-2024 mshsaa # .

Most of them are. 2 high schools stand out amongst all others, one of which is Jeff City High School.

Spring 2023 Dese enrollment for grades 9-11 (1045)

2023-2024 MSHSAA# (896)

A difference of 149 students.
Jeff city was then placed in C4 (the cutoff for football being 906)

On average ive found that this difference is anywhere from 1 -25, but mostly around 10.

Jeff City competed and won a district championship against pleasant hill (MSHSAA# 535 / Dese enrollment 545)

They are currently in the MSHSAA playoffs playing Friday night against McDonald County (mshsaa#818 / Dese enrollment 825).

Today if you were to check enrollments on the MSHSAA website… Jefferson City’s mshsaa# is now 961 (still a difference of 84, but ok). There were 6 public high schools with a lower MSHSAA# than 961 that competed in C5 this season.

The MSHSAA website shows that the enrollments of schools competing in C4 in 2023 range from 512-906.

Why is a school with a C5 enrollment allowed to compete in the C4 playoffs?

Probably because they were replaced by private schools that were given the championship multiplier due to their playoff success

Except Rockwood Summit, Raytown South, and others below 961 are in class 5.

Didn’t they have to forfeit a game over something with alternative school kids? Maybe they’ve now added those students?

Even Capital City Enrollment went up to 963, when they started at 906 when enrollment released but they never forfeited a game. look like we have a cheating scandal by MSHSAA going on!!!

Jeff City or any other school does not make the determination of Class. that is on MSHSAA. If you want to point fingers and ask questions... point them in that direction only concerning an issue of that matter.

Wow quite the first post on here. What is the root of this? An angry father? A disgruntled mom that was rejected by the Kearney crew?

Moberly has a difference of over 50 from DESE to the MSHSAA enrollment. I believe DESE numbers are out around December and the schools report to MSHSAA around March or April? Just curious how a school loses 50 kids in that time frame.

I heard a while back that Jeff City had manipulated their enrollment somehow to keep them in Class 4. If true, just another example of how fall they have fallen.

They may have not included enrollment numbers from the JCAC which is the alternative high school. I
They may not have been required since Capital City has access to the same JCAC players depending on the players address.

Good grief people!!!!! This is almost as bad as having kids from other states on your team and not updating eligibility rosters until 3/4 of the way through the season, and having ear buds in helmets.....HOW IN THE HECK DO YOU FORGET TO ADD STUDENTS TO YOUR REPORTED NUMBERS TO MSHSAA????? HOW SPINELESS IS MSHSAA FOR JUST SAYING "Oh well...haha...mistakes happen...just play the rest of the year out in class 4..no big deal...haha..thanks for self reporting so we can continue to not do our job.

If I'm an admin/coach of a school on the bubble of moving up...why not??? Oh so I can be Class 5 and have a good year OR let's not add these 50-100 students and play Class 4 sport and maybe win a ****state championship****

The sad part is that the once mighty Jays are traveling to play McDonald County in Class4, and stand a good chance of getting beat

The rumblings that I have heard, don't know if true or not, is that Cap City included JCAC enrollment to their overall enrollment. JC did not. I heard there are roughly 140 students at JCAC. 60 of which count to CC and 80 count to JC. Again, I don't know if this is factual, but I think it is a pretty reliable source.

JC is definitely a Class 5 school with an enrollment of 961, as posted on the MSHSAA web site. This number is well above the 906 cut off number for Class 4. Someone made a huge mistake. I don't think JC has to forfiet any games. The wrong number doesn't effect the in season play.I believe they should not be in post season play because the are a Class 5 school playing in the Class 4 bracket. They should not be allowed to play Friday against MacCo, that is a pretty simple fix and be less embarrassing than crowning a Class4 State Champion with a Class 5 enrollment number. Also MSHSAA should send a formal letter of apoligy to all the schools effected by this mistake.

missouri not only has one of the worst playoff systems but they also have this problem OP
what a joke

Isn't district a play off game? If you lose you go home..
You are not wrong. But MSHSAA needs a point in the season where they don't feel bad for gouging you on ticket prices and making you pay money for your teams video feed so they call it something different. Regular season gate receipts your money. Playoffs our money.
