Why doesn't the COC split in 2?

Oh you're right, they finished 9-2 in 2015, not 9-3.
Not that it matters but I think it was actually 2014 when Willard beat Carthage handily in the regular season then I believe lost by 1pt in district final. Seems like Carthage got up big early in that district game and Willard roared back just came up a tad short. Carthage went on to lose to state runner up Nixa the next week by a FG.

Willard FB was stout there for a couple years for sure. They also beat Carthage the year prior as well.

Good catch, when looking at MSHSAA I was looking at the 2014-2015 year.

That game was one of the most exciting that I can remember. Carthage could do no wrong in the first half and then Willard came storming back. Scored a late TD to get within one point and decided to go for two to win. Called a wing sweep to the left side and the ball carrier just tripped up near the goal line, coming up just short. Great game. That was likely the most talented team Willard has had, Forrest Merrill the big nose guard from that team is now with the LA Chargers and played this week on Monday Night Football.

I 100% get and support the concept of going for 2 to win the game but as I think back on it I can't recall a single instance of this winning a game.

In addition to the example you gave I can think of these:
Carthage at Joplin 2 yrs ago
Carthage at Nixa (a bit different Nixa needed the 2 to tie)
Neosho at Carthage (Neosho had been running ALL OVER Carthage, I thought the 2pt would have been automatic but Carthage ended up getting the first sack of the game to hang on 21-20)

I also remember watching Webb City lose a state championship on a failed 2pt. I think to Clayton.

I'm sure there are instances where teams have won doing that I just can't think of any.

Cj won a district game against Hillcrest 7 or 8 years ago 29-28 by going for 2 with no time left.

Bring back the Large and Small COC. LOL Add Springfield schools and Bolivar to get to 16 schools and do two divisions of 8. Largest 8 enrollments are in the top division.

Would be 7 games guaranteed and allow 2 more games for interconference or out of conference matchups. Best teams could go out and schedule the best, bad teams could go out and try to pick up more competitive teams.

CJ was going to kick, but Hillcrest called timeout. I turned to one of Coach Buck’s friends and said he is going to go for two. The friend said don’t do it. I believe Dustin Satterlee scored; appropriate after the great play he made on the touchdown to escape the sack and throw the TD.

Tempting…

But, Nah. - Too easy.
It's literally amazing to me how the bigger schools in the Greene/Christian Co area have never figured out how to form a conference.

Nixa
Republic
Ozark
Branson
Glendale
Kickapoo
Parkview
Hillcrest
Willard

Invite L-R, Lebanon, and Marshfield or Central if you want a Large/Small split...In the days of limited drivers and budget shortages (allegedly), you'd think this would be about as easy as it could get. Just not the case. I know it will never happen, like you said, just makes too much sense.

Funny because Buck tried to kick the extra point last year down 1 at Branson and the kicker missed. Lesson is never put the game on a high school kicker if you have any other option.

In sports other than football, those schools pretty much play each other in non conference games anyway. The Springfield and Joplin area schools are going to play no matter what. It doesn't really matter for travel if they are conference or non conference games

Not too long ago Nixa and Branson relatively small schools. Only in recent years is the enrollment in the COC larger than on the Ozark.

Another possibility is that webb city could go rogue like notre dame and schedule independently. Cherry pick what they want of the coc and fill in the rest with whoever.

Not sure there’s too many teams standing in line to play an indy that’s more than likely gonna hang an L on them. It’s why Camdenton eventually joined the OC and why JC could hardly get games when they were great.

I’m about 99.9% sure that there is no desire for WC to do this. As much as I enjoyed getting to see WC schedule some great non-conf games like Rockhurst, Har-Ber, etc I don’t an AD is looking to go back to the days like the SWC where you had 4 conference games and then struggle to find 5 non conference opponents.

I’m happy that some of those long trips are now replaced with Joplin and CJ but I do think the ideal size of teams for the conference for my taste would be 8 or 9. If I were an AD though a 10 teams league removes a lot of scheduling problems.
