What are these schools doing different

I think one common trait of the good coaches mentioned is their willing to continue to learn and improve. People may or may not be surprised at the amount of time Bailey and JRod spent together watching film. I know Bailey has visited and hosted other coaches from around the state to do the same, including Maryville if I am not mistaken. I also know at least one other coach who was encouraged to reach out for the same by their school board and refused. Needless to say he was out of the job after a couple losing seasons.

Hey 3peat, you know that Webb had a bad year in ‘16, the year Mucho shut down! JRod went to Mr. Mucho and begged him to come back. ‘17 - Mucho opens up Broadway Burgers and Webb wins it all again, 18 a beat up team verily misses out on the finals by being beaten by the eventual state champ. All three of my boys watched games in the dome and said, “Someday I’m going to play on that field.” And they did! In the 8th grade they could all tell you what was happening as far as plays being called on the field. The peewees eat it up and buy in that is if they work at it they will get a chance to get to the Championship! It’s a mindset!

I believe it was 2007, Carthage had just defeated Webb 24-23 or something like that. My son,3 other adults & I are leaving. We are on the north side of the stadium, on the sidewalk, walking to the truck. about 8 Jr hi (ish) Webbies, 1 kid says, "man the refs cheated us", a different kid (what becomes clear, he is the leader of that pack) whirls around and states something like, "The refs did not cheat us, we lost, we got beat, it is our job to work harder and play smarter than that team that just walked off that field, I do not want to hear excuses." HONESTLY, I had goosebumps all over and I REALLY wanted to ask him his name. I did not say anything. When we got in my truck I asked the other's with me if they heard that kid? "YES, we did"!!! So I said, does anyone in here not know why Webb does what they do?

Reminds me of Coach Smith telling a story about going into his sons bedroom at bedtime after a rare Webb loss,,, he sees a poster on the ceiling over the bed that says “We Will NEVER lose” Mike tries to tell him everyone loses sometimes but the reply was “we won’t”,,,,,,that started a long winning streak and three titles later they graduated unbeaten I believe with a 45-0 record

My middle son was freshman that night and after that game he stood there and witnessed Carthage storming the field. When I got to him on the sideline, he was just staring and with tears running down his face he looked at me and said, "That will not ever happen again while I play at this school." By his senior year JRod and Smitty simply had to put the balls out on the field and get them their uniforms to put on on a Friday night and they got themselves ready to do one thing - not lose again.

There is an old saying about championship caliber teams, "we hate to lose more than we love to win." When that fire is in your belly and heart, you work to win everyday in everything you do. School, weights, practice, and more.

Bailey and Lamar didn't have a "good group of kids" for 7 straight years. Add in the years that built up to that and you are talking about a 10 year run of "good kids".

I don’t think I’ve seen anyone post this yet but
Valle, Lamar, Maryville, and Webb are all being coached by men who played at their respected alumni. I think a sense of community pride comes with that..

You know I was discussing this with a school board member the other day. But not only coaches but administration. Almost none of our current administration live in our school district...There is no association to the community, it is basically a job and nothing more, that might be the times we live in now, but to me that is like working for Chevy and driving Toyota just seems disconnected. Have enough faith your product to use it.

Your simile is rubbish. When Alan Mulally took over as Ford CEO, he required all executives, including himself, to drive home different versions of the competitions' cars. This helped the company improve their own products. Maybe your school board is using the same tactic.

Maybe that explains why Fords are built like crap...And again it was the school board member who brought it up to me. I didn't bring it up to them.
