WEMO

Have a little time to kill so came up with this. If Rich Hill, Drexel, Liberal and Appleton City all do go 8-man next year, here are teams that will be looking for games in each week.

1 - Lincoln, Jasper, Greenfield
2 - Jasper & Adrian
3 - Midway, Adrian, Jasper & Archie
4 - Midway & Adrian
5 - Adrian, Midway, Archie & Jasper
6 - St. Michael & Diamond
7 - Archie, Christ Prep
8 - Archie& Midway
9 - Windsor & Sherwood

Guess WEMO's 4 teams could go home and away schedule. I would love to see (4) Kaysinger teams join the (4) WEMO teams, would be very tough conference.

I could see the WEMO and the Kaysinger helping each other fill schedules, but a Jasper-Tipton trip would be three hours one-way. If both communities were willing to make this an annual event, then maybe.

The new school in JC, Capital City, will have around 600 in 9th and 10th grade only next year. Maybe less. They are looking for games. May be worth a try.

The Jeff City school could be possible for some in the Kaysinger for a year or so. The WEMO might want to look more at partnering with the Three-Rivers in Kansas for both 8-man and 11-man games, as that league does have divisions for both. Plus both leagues lay on a state line notorious for historic rivalry and more.

Mowestdad - what’s the scoop with the I-70 schools? If lone jack dropped their coop they could go 8-man. Santa Fe and Concordia ? Sweet Springs has had pretty good numbers recently. St. Paul’s kinda gets screwed with the multiplier.

We're going to need games that's for sure but I know for myself that my support for the jasper teams has decreased at least 50% from last year bc of the travel. I normally go to all the football and basketball games boy and girls and some volleyball but I didnt make 1 volleyball game and don't see going to many basketball games. Other than parents I don't see many fans (Not Parents) traveling to watch many if any games outside of jasper. Its really sad to be honest and I'm thinking of moving my family to the Carthage-Joplin area so my kid has more opportunity for his family and friends to get to watch him as he gets older.

I honestly think this rightful mindset has had by many folks in small towns over the past 10-15 years. You notice a lot of smaller towns having less and less athletes in our area. As long as there’s jobs to be had elsewhere and better opportunities? People over time are going to move as long as it’s not too far away from family.

I think the Kaysinger needs to split a few schools off have Green Ridge, LaMonte, Northwest, and Otterville join the Mid-State Conference. Then the Kaysinger is down to Cole Camp, Lincoln, Sacred Heart, Smithton, Stover, Tipton and Windsor.

They're going 8 man for sure.

Ok, thanks. They were the only ones I had not heard about voting yet, and was told they were still on the fence. I believe they are all meeting in early December to finalize everything and confirm the proposed schedule matrix.

Rumor in the streets is that a discussion took place and promises were made, deals brokered, while all along we in the media knew nothing. I have it on good authority that next year they will be either 6, 8, 9, or 11 man.

You are confused. The Clinton talked about on Fox and Friends and Hannity is a person and not the town in Missouri.

I've heard the same thing from a few coach friends of mine. I've also heard Lockwood is talking about it seriously to.

It's going to make rescheduling 9 games for the remaining teams pretty tough. Finding 4-5 teams to play throughout the season isn't going to be easy for the remaining 11-man teams.
Is there any reason you can’t do a home-away series like in basketball and play a team twice??

This is the most ignorant post I have read. This is just pure 8 man hate. By your "logic" in this post, we should just lump everyone into one class for football then, because playing football at any smaller level is just circumnavigating our schedules to accommodate talent right? ............And you're right, a 160 lb kid can be a great OL, but a team of 160 lb kids is rarely great, much less competitive in 11 man.
I was in South Dakota last weekend visiting a relative. There they play 11-man and 9-man. Next season they are adding 6-man.

Texas has a six-man division; almost think if you have an elite sprinter, he can just run the dash all Friday evening.

Trouble with trying to partner with the Three Rivers in Kansas is the districts. Six of each teams games are district. A couple teams do play some non league games in first three weeks of the season. But most have to fit in league games because no other league team in their district.

I didn't think about the crazy district setup in Kansas. Although it probably guarantees a full schedule better than Missouri does right now, unless a school actually has a stable conference.

According to the 8-man website, Drexel and Rich Hill have voted to go to 8-man effective 2019 season.

From what I understand, AC and Liberal have as well. I don't have any inside sources just scuttlebutt.

The following WEMO schools will be playing 8-man in 2019; Appleton City, Drexel, Liberal, Osceola and Rich Hill. The conference will also be considering expansion for football only and creating an 8-man division and 11-man division.

Miller should schedule the remaining wemo teams

Can't take the strength of schedule hit.
Miller is in a stable conference with teams dedicated to 11 man football that leaves very few out of conference opportunities. Maybe the Stockton game could be improved but we get the class 2 bump. Might find a better team to get the bump from but doubt WEMO scraps are the answer.

Frankly, if there is going to be a list of full and affiliate members during the football season, then Jasper and Liberal should consider giving up the idea of being full members, and just remain football affiliates. For all other activities (since conferences are usually arranged for all academic and athletic activities), perhaps they should get with Greenfield, the Joplin private schools, and another local school or two and bring back the SRVC. This will be easier on the transportation budget and will hopefully allow more fans to travel as well. Just an idea; they could even merge with Ozark 7 schools as the bigger schools in that league have a similar numbers in enrollment.

Clearly all those district titles brought home to the swc shows your scheduling is beyond reproach

Any idea when this all gets finalized? Just curious if they're having success adding 11-man teams into that division. Also, I know Chilhowee is one team given an invite, but who are some of the others?

What happens if a team drops to 8 man and doesn't have enough linemen or athletes to win 5 plus games? Will they be allowed to play 6 man?

I guess Missouri schools could play 6-man, but the road trips to Texas, North Dakota, or Wyoming could be rough, plus the fact you'd be playing one of those little Texas towns that is most likely very rabid about the gridiron and no telling what else, which is one reason they are still fielding whatever team they can. Of course, that seems like a crime to be that crazy about football in Missouri. "If you can't play 11-man, go fall baseball!"
