The COC & OC in talks about joining forces!?!?!?

The Webb school district isn't landlocked. They are building entire neighborhoods in Oronogo and Carterville.
That chat pile super fund sight is bringing in a lot of big business. Once it turns residential they will pass Carthage in enrollment

That would just be the old Southwest conference! I think Mc County and Nevada are happy in the big 8

Actually Original organized in September 20 1920 as the Southwest Missouri Inter-High League, the conference started with 18 schools 10 in the larger division (I am still working to get the names of all the original schools). But yes Springfield Bulldogs and Joplin Eagles were there along with many in the Big 8. The conference was reformed in 1928 as the Southwest Activates Association or SWC and also known as the Big 10, then in 1930 Joplin and Springfield were voted out of the league and it was renamed the Big 8 members were Monett, Aurora, Carthage, Nevada, Neosho, Webb City, Lamar & Mt Vernon. Cassville would join in 1954 and the name was changed to the Big 9. Then in 1963 CJ joined the conference and the name was changed to the Big 10. Then because of a state ruling the conference was forced to accept Seneca, McDonald County and East Newton and the name was changed to the Big 13. Webb City left for 2 years and joined the Ozark and the conference became known as the Big 12. Webb City rejoined and two years later Memorial was accepted however instead the conference split in two with Memorial, Webb City, Carthage, Nevada, Mac County, and Neosho forming the big 6 and Monett, Aurora, Mt Vernon, Cassville, Seneca, East Newton Carl Junction, & Lamar forming the Big 8.

Enjoyed your post. All things history appreciated.

Doubt Monett is interested in leaving the Big 8. Most of the Big 8 is happy where they are.

We would be happier if we could plan Aurora and Mt Vernon yearly, whoever set up the current alignment must have been hitting the sauce that night. How can three school whose districts boarder and have such a deep history not play each other yearly in football? Aurora and Monett had one the longest continuous playing streak in football in Missouri?

I have not heard anything about Neosho wanting out of the COC but it is very true about CJ, or at least among the coffee talk. CJ wants back into the BIG 8.

Does no one remember thar it was impossible to finish with a decent seed in districts with a Big 8 schedule? Feels like people forgot.

Does it matter? If they are good? They will win. Seeding isn’t important if you have a good team. Like I’ve never heard a coach go “Well we didn’t get the one seed in districts, I feel we were set up to fail because of that”

It matters to getting home games.

Sure, I mean? I’ve seen some of the final scores for some CJ games while they were in the big 8. I’m truly not trying to be rude here. But home field wouldn’t have changed much in those games. I feel teams meant to be on a collision course for a district championship, or further down the road win districts no matter the seed. But hey, just my opinion.

That and the damned winters would be the reason I couldn't live there. But man, everything else sure seems like it'd be perfect.
Spent about a week up in Montana a few years ago, and let me tell you, I’d go back for a visit in a heartbeat.
beautiful, rural, quiet, tons of crap to do if you’re not afraid to get away from the rest of “civilization”

I remember when they left the Big 8 it was said they would get better due to the COC competition. Now they want to bail?

Webb isn't landlocked, but there is a lot more shoulder room in Carthage and CJ than there is in Webb.

I would think CJ grows at faster rate than Webb over the next decade. I guess we could just ask Schuber Mitchell where they are putting up the most house to get a better perspective on where the growth is happening. Damn, it seems they are building all the time everywhere.

Wait…WTF? Seckman, Fox, and Eureka? Pass a little of what you’re having around to the rest of us!

Their shitty houses wont even last a decade.

Neosho will be a Top 50 school in the state enrollment wise in the next decade, and have all this money poured into beautiful new facilities…and they want out? So they can beat up on smaller schools? Who is going to want to accept them is what I’m wondering. They’re not Springfield Central, there’s a lot of potential there to have successes in multiple sports

My son was in high school when they first joined the COC. They embraced the challenge and it did make them better. Now the kids and parents are just too soft and wants everything easy and handed to them.
