Ste Gen got out to a 17-2 1st qtr start and led by 24 at one point over the Class 4 #1 ranked Park Hills Central Lady Rebels. The Dragons claim their 3rd straight Mineral Area Conference large school regular season championship.

Watched the game. Sg flat out wanted it more. Park hills shooting was cold and their defensive intensity non existent.

I thought the exact same thing when Central played NC. Defensive intensity was not like it's been in the past.
Down 15 they sat back defensively like they were up 15. Also thought sg pressure the length of the floor threw them off. Athlete wise it’s pretty apparent sg has them beat there. I know they have Horton and the taller girl but watching on YouTube they never stood out to me

Ste Gen got off to a fast start and Park Hills a cold start and had some turnovers, and it snowballed from there in the first half. PH got rattled. SG's pressure had a lot to do with it. That happens sometime. PH did settled down in the second half and cut the lead to 9 once.

In their first meeting, PH won by 8 in the their Xmas tourney championship. They could meet again in the conference tournament and the district tournament. And Park Hills hosts districts - a huge advantage.

You are right. Ste Gen/Central will play again at least once. If Central stays in that 2-3 zone they won't beat NC in the conference tourney semi-final. They've got to go back to Full-Court in your face pressure. They are deep enough with athletes that they don't have to worry about foul trouble (especially in tournaments) . Besides, refs will always put the whistles away in the second half. No one wants to watch a 3-hour hack fest.

I think this is the best senior class of girl basketball players the MAAA has had across the board in a long time. Think Ste Gen, NC, WC need to get some love in the rankings soon.

Question on the bball district site. Do they rotate that now, bid on it, or do all the local schools in park hills class just let them have this advantage every year?

District host is voted on by the teams. Each school determines if they want to be considered on the ballot. I believe there is a minimum seating capacity number to be the host. And schools are going to consider driving distance when voting.

MSHSAA takes a cut of the gate so it's not a great money maker after paying for all the help, refs, and hospitality room. So many schools don't want to mess with hosting.

Did sg? Could be the difference. If you are going to take the time to beef up the schedule it only makes sense to have districts on your floor and not your main rival. Could be a timing thing with shuffling of teams due to an added class.

Pretty sure this is all not even a thing this year as with COVID precautions higher seeds are hosting each round, until the District championship which then can be chosen to be played at a neutral location.
