Spring Sports

Just checked the MSHSAA website. No new announcement today.

We are out until April 27. Most schools are around 10 practices so far. Waiving the minimum practice days I would think it would be looked at as unsafe, as it should. Even if they started back w counting ur previous practices, that would put competitions at the first week of May. W the lay off pitchers can’t be near ready. Track kids times would be real slow. Only way it would work is if they extended the season into mid June. Which then you get into summer baseball, foot/soft/volleyball etc summer contact days. I would think it’s just going to be cancelled. Hate that for the seniors, but extremest of circumstances. Of course what do I know.

No insider info here, but I have to think spring sports are history. Does anybody think this will spill over into fall sports?
Don't know about fall but a lot of pools won't open and a lot of summer __________ball won't happen. JMO

Seems hopes of spring sports are fading fast. Just terrible for the athletes. I think best case now is no summer stuff is canceled. One would hope we would be back to normal by June 1.

They aren’t the sharpest knives in the drawer. You’re, at the moment, nearly into May before most are back to school (as it is now, I don’t think that will happen). Then you still have the issue of practices to get to 14. Or if it’s even safe to count the practices prior to the long layoff. Then you’ve got to play some games prior to a district tournament. Then you’ve got to squeeze in the entire playoffs. Around potential weather problems. But hey, MSHSAA, you bet...it’s still possible.

To me, if we go back in early May, have practice for a week and a half. Let schools schedule and play their conference games. Forget a state tournament type deal. That way seniors can get in a few games and play against your rivals one more time.

You know this layoff is killing the "select" coaches! Our neighbor's son's select coach called them, was trying to set up some practices. Saying "we will keep em spread out and apart, got to keep the boys sharp." the country is shut down, but they need to practice.

Oh yeah, they are 11!

There has been talk to push the season back until the possibility of having the state tournament into the middle part of June.

Believe me when I say I'm not trying to be rude or flippant, but if you think there's any possibility that spring sports won't be cancelled you are delusional.

They are saying NY will hit its peak in 3 weeks. We are behind them. So say 3 weeks after they hit their peak we hit ours. Now you still got the time after for things to settle down. Then the doctor I listened to said it would flare up again for a while because of people relaxing. You think there will be spring sports? You better wonder if we will have fall sports.

I'm afraid you're right on all counts.

They sent out an email the other day to continue with site selection for districts for baseball and golf

Our president also said this would only affect a few people and we now have more confirmed cases than any other country in the world...

Nodaway County Commission passed an emergency ordinance yesterday (3-26), part of which keeps schools closed through April.

Idk. China said there is like 23 million less cell phone users. I think there may be quite a few people dead in villages that haven't been counted.

I didn't say I believe them, he'll I don't believe my own president and Congress. It could be a thing or not a thing, like spring sports.

Not intimating that you believed it. Just a general comment on any disinformation that comes out of China.

This just in, per a tweet from the Gallatin R-5 School District that appears on the grandriverconference.com Twitter page: Gallatin schools are now closed through Friday, April 24 and will reopen Monday, April 27.

They could shorten up the track season to just sectionals and finals over the last 2 weeks of May.

Has anyone on Mosports got the virus or know anyone who has it? Barry County just reported it's first case this week.

When is everybody scheduled to go back? And do you think that date will be right?

If they have competition (which I am seriously doubting), why waste it on playoffs and championship meets? In track, they should just do duels, tris and quads for a few weeks and call it a season. More participation. Otherwise the only ones getting a season are the top 15%.
