Small public schools have zero chance

Hearing MSHSAA ruled Travion Ford ineligible for Lutheran North. Any conformation or what is going for sure? Coach Reed said he would not comment on MSHSAA's decision on the eligibility of Travion Ford. I would assume it's not good.

I don’t think the coach should comment publicly on the decision. I would be suspicious if he did.

Looks like Lutheran St Charles is the one who is pushing this. The article is on twitter under STLhighschoolsports if someone wants to post it.

First if the allegations against the LSC AD are true, what a jerk. Ultimately it sounds like no one is buying the load of crap this family is laying down. No one in hard times moves 50 miles and then sends their child to a private school 30 miles away. They could have moved a few miles north of Ofallon and been in the Edwardsville District which is probably one of the best metro area and has some of the nicest athletic facilities I have seen at a High School. Their football team has been a top 5 team in the Class 8 the last few years.

If you want a non Catholic Christian education in STL you have very limited options. Outside of metro east Lutheran, LN would be the closest school that fits this criteria. It is silly to force parents to drive by LN to get to LSC. AD is very petty.

i could be wrong, but LHSC f'd a kid that went back to his public high school last year, i think because his father lost h is job, and he didn't get to play his senior year.

Valle was Class 2A only back in the 70's and early 80's when their enrollment was over 300 kids...and YES they did have 80-90 kids a few years back then...but not since they have dropped to Class 1 have they had big numbers like that. Valle has never had a D-I kid and very few D-II players. All their kids come from Parish schools in St.e Genevieve County. There are only two schools in the whole County...Ste.Gen, Public and Valle. Most of the county is Catholic...so even many Ste. Gen. Public kids are Catholic. Most who don't know won'y believe this...but Valle DOESN'T recruit...never has. I lived there for 9 years and coached on both sides of that rivalry. I still have many friends there and know both Coaching staffs well...they have a rich football tradition at both places...but there is no recruiting.
I remember back in the day when I was there, we had the Sisters of St. Joseph dress out on the sidelines to help psych the opponents. They were complete with rulers in hand! Need'em today, last year I think there were like low 30's on the sideline. Picture of the sophomore class that I saw had 27 students, 9 of which were boys. I think freshman class this year is about 42 kids, coed!

Ever have 21 D1 recruits at once?
I think the only D1 recruit Valle has ever had was Bill Brinkmann who played for Mizzou, Not sure when he graduated but around 1955 or so when Valle had as many kids as Ste. Gen Public. Back then tuition was free if you belonged to the parish of Ste. Genevieve and outlying parishes had to pay a minor amount to attend.

Outside of Valle, a private school hasn't won a title since the first year after dropping the 'A' in C1 or C2. That's almost 20 years. The 20 year stretch before that had a ton more, with John Burroughs, St. Pius X, and Valle winning on the reg.
St. Vincent's of Perryville won the class 1 in 2004. St. Vincent's today has slightly more kids than Valle. They play each other tonight in the first game.

Just saw Trinity has a 7 footer on the basketball team. They are trying to take over the world.

looks like they made it to the state championship game last year. Now I'm really mad.

So...you mean...Valle won all those titles without loading up with dozens of D1 recruits? How is this possible?
It's interesting that posters on this board refer to a team like Lamar and what makes them successful...those are the same characteristics that makes Valle so successful. A dedicated group of families in Ste. Genevieve who REFUSE to let the school die, enthusiastic and supportive alumni and fan base, kids willing to work year round to better themselves, an excellent coach and staff, a proud tradition that the kids want to carry on.

Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't Valle have a couple D1 football players in Grass and Fallert that both went to Semo?? Maybe they were walk ons but thought they went there.

You are correct about Fallert but not sure about Grass. I remember Semo from the old days:) I don't think Fallert played that much at Semo?? Several kids from Ste. Gen played at Rolla and some small colleges that I am not sure of the designation.

I absolutely loved the two games when these teams played. Just being in Valle's trophy room up there was a great experience. HS football in it's purest and best form: hard work, team football, tradition, sportmanship, and thoughtful prayer before and after. No fights or dirty play, no kids crying refusing to shake hands. Same in the stands. Wish they could still play.

Valle always has a prayer group after the game and it was gratifying to see so many (if not all) Lamar players join them. Judd does a good job of teaching the kids to win but just as important is how to be good losers! The Lamar fans I talked to were gracious and complimentary after the game. With the new MSHAA system going into place next year you may get your wish.

Honestly i can't believe how many good athletes came out of that town. I graduated in 85. I remember after all my baseball days were over, I got into playing competitive slowpitch teams. Every year i played with the local KC team at the annual KC tournament at the Rainbow complex in Columbia. Back when there was over 100 teams in the competitive side, great great times. Jeff City, St. Charles, Ste Gen, Westphelia, Washington, so great battles. Got to know quite a few guys from Ste. Gen. Great ball players, but even more great people and families. I can see exactly why those teams were so good, and also how they produced some kids who were great athletes even after that.

I bet the mustaches and tube socks were on full display on a few of those Ste. Gen. softball teams.

The problem is not the private schools dominating, it's just we have private and public schools that in a lower class that should be in higher class, and private and public schools that are in higher classes should be in lower classes.. This is why we having teams dominating every year. If I was in control of doing football classification I would throw the enrollment numbers in the garbage. There are some C6 public schools that should be in C5 and Some public C5 teams should be in C6. Do you every look at the schools in all classes and think to yourself why is this school even in this class?

Here what my class 2-4 would look like with dominating teams and best and decent private schools.

Class 2

Maybe I just don't get it, but if we're doing this, we need to get rid of weight classes in wrestling too. If a 103 pounder goes undefeated as a freshman and sophomore then he should have to wrestle 285 as a junior and senior.
