Small public schools have zero chance

I am torn on open enrollment. There is about 80 acres of land I would love to purchase and build a house on. The issue is it is in Verona's school district the land next to it is in Monett's but it is not for sale and if it was it would go for about $2,000 more an acre because it is in Monett's school district. So this means I have to pony up over $10,000 a month for my kids to go to Monett schools or just let them go to Verona which offers nothing. Be nice if I could just say hey I want to move my tax dollars over to Monett and let my kids go there. I just don't know, but small public schools like Verona don't offer and can't offer enough for kids.

I hear you. In STL, families that can afford to, move to affluent suburbs with higher property values and high tax bases. I understand why they do it. I chose to live in the city, but sent one of my kids to a private high school (and the other to the highest performing public high school in Missouri ... which happens to be a STL City school).

What I’D love to see is EVERY kid in Missouri get the type of funding more affluent suburban schools get. I want ALL of them to benefit, regardless of whether they’re in Ladue or Hayti. Open enrollment wouldn’t mean every kid could go to any high school they want to go to IF their families couldn’t provide transportation beyond a certain number of miles each district would give (which is what they do in Arizona).

Opening enrollment is highly unlikely to happen because “the haves” aren’t going to share money for schools with “the have nots”. In that respect, kids in small towns have much in common with kids in St. Louis City and other smaller suburbs here.

I’m totally down with splitting publics and privates for post season play. There’ll be fewer rounds and we could even have some of the public champions play the private champions at the end of the season.

That’s not the issue. The issue is these places where 72% of the males in their schools “just so happen” to be D1 recruits.

A statistical anomaly preponderant in its infinitesimal improbability!

It isn’t against ANY state’s rules for families to choose to send their kids to the school of their choice. They don’t “just so happen” to get recruited and offered scholarships. It requires work by the players, their families, and their high school coaches. I don’t doubt Lamar had far more players over the last 8 years with the talent to play at the next level. What I also don’t doubt is that not seeing a single player from Lamar at any of the multi-college combines or at any Nike, Under Armour, or Adidas events had a lot to do with it.

I don’t think you know as much about the recruiting process as you do about which school has the best funnel cakes and quotes from “All The Right Moves”.

nothing, but don't assume that all public schools want to play in the rec league division. again, what is the answer to the public schools that recruit or take the shady "move-ins"?

They don’t outside of KC or STL. And that’s giving you the benefit of the doubt that those public schools do. You could convince me BO does in Jefferson. But that’s about it. Also, show me the 3-5 star D1 athletes going to these public schools.

City is about 10,000 + 7,000 college students.

But like I said before cost of housing has to do why there is not alot of families in the city.

Yeah, that makes sense considering their previous enrollment figures...which were on the lower end of Class 3.

Outside of Valle, a private school hasn't won a title since the first year after dropping the 'A' in C1 or C2. That's almost 20 years. The 20 year stretch before that had a ton more, with John Burroughs, St. Pius X, and Valle winning on the reg.

True if the multiplier works correctly it will only happen one more time. (If LN wins). But it was going to be a constant problem if LN and Cardinal Ritter stayed in class 2 for the most part. They both are this year.

Collecting talent hasn't equated to championship winning football so far for either of them. Trinty put together a mega team and won 1 title with it. Had they stayed in Class 2 they wouldn't even have that. Let's not make the boogeyman bigger than he really is.

It took Lamar and BO, two programs that had the talent to stop it. RPO with that talent last season with BO would have competed in class 4. And we all know how rare of a feat Lamar accomplished. In most states I feel like Both of those schools in those smaller classes would have ran the table against rural communities. No knock against Lamar but I don’t think they can stop Maryville or LN. Maryville can compete with LN but I doubt they will beat them. Just saying.

I think taking away the multiplier will be something many public schools will regret. I get it that the very successful private school programs (in all sports) will be bumped up a class but that still leaves a lot of private schools that will probably drop down a class without the current multiplier.
Starting next year, say a public and a pvt school have the same enrollment of let’s say 200. It’s unfair to the public school as they don’t have the ability to recruit outside of their district.

Easy there! Funnel cake and documentary talk is not to be taken lightly on here! Funnel cakes have long been discussed on here, well before any Doc Guy showed up. Except maybe Shoot.

I don’t think I’ve ever eaten a funnel cake. As far as knowing anything about the recruiting process....well....you never really know who you’re chatting with on here, do you?

To say the reason that Trinity, Lutheran North, etc. has all those D 1 prospects is due to attending “Under Armour camps” is the reason I just coughed iced tea all over my tablet screen. Thanks, crusader!
Seriously Raw? How can you never have eaten a funnel cake???

Dang it Raw, you have never eaten a funnel cake, How in the heck have you never tasted one! That is just crazy talk. Next I bet you will tell me you have never wrapped your lips around 3/4 pound juicy wiener...Or better known as a Monett hotdog, best and biggest in SWMO maybe all of Missouri!
