I get what you are saying.. but they hardly get the same scholarship. Golf, for example (since you used that one) is allowed 4.5 scholarships by the NCAA for a roster of usually around 10. So, less than a half scholarship per player.
Lets stick with the point of the post. The kids in the big ten are risking life and limb. And instead of giving them $1,000 a semester for spending money the system says its ok to give $20 million to the conference president. Absurd. What exactly is he risking? What brilliant idea has he come up with?
I think the best thing is the hardest to regulate thanks to boosters. Let them make money from their image. The program faces will get the compensation they deserve and the 3rd string long snapper can be happy with his free ride
Pandora's box; Give football players $1,000 a month and within a year participants in girls sports will sue for equal pay (even though their sport makes no money and is only allowed to exist because of the revenue the football program brings in).

Youre also forgetting they have access to; tutors, trainers, nutrition/dietitans, great training facilitates/gyms, and all sorts of free gear. Thats on top of the things already mentioned that they receive.
Now you CANT bring up boosters without thinking of me! Ive been a booster most of my life and have been running the Ampipe boosters club since the 80s!

Yes and some of them wont walk without a limp the rest of their lives. Some will find out they have CTE. And on their backs ADs and coaches are getting rich. But talk about tutors and training tables tough guy.
Absolutily nobody makes them play the game. Best thing to do would be to do away with scholarships for any athletes and make college football players again true "student athletes"

I think most non-athlete students, would LOVE to have access to personal tutors and trainers. And like what wcfan said, no one makes them play. I know a certain CB from back in the 80s who recognized he was trading his playing abilities for a college degree. The students are willingly and knowingly choosing to play the game and by now, should know the risks involved.
I'm a free market guy. I think employees (and don't kid yourselves, D1 athletes are employees of the school) should be able to earn whatever compensation the market deems worthy, whether it be through the schools, through endorsement deals, autograph signing, etc. Maybe athletes in different sports would sue, but they'd have very little standing. Schools already pay (or don't pay) employees different amounts for nominally the same job, depending on their market value.
I agree! Just curious (sincerely), but do you think that the US Women's Soccer and Hockey teams had standing in their suits?

So you're ready to see Mizzou football get completely wiped off the map? This whole "Free Market" would end college football.
