This story is exactly why "free market" health insurance is absolute BS. This same type of thing on a smaller scale has happened to 3 different people in my extended family.

How would I know what Duck is saying? He NEVER says anything! He posts what someone else tweets and ignores what everyone else says.

Yeah, who wouldn't be surprised when you get billed?
I refuse any medical treatment until they give me a written quotation for all procedures.

You have to be an idiot to agree to a procedure if you don’t know if it’s going to cost $500 or $50,000

You are buying a service people, make them tell you up front what it’s going to cost

I have to admit, this happened to us too... it is so frustrating to get a bill up to a year later.

I have private insurance, but our adopted kids have public insurance. hands down what our adopted kids have is way easier to manage than our private.
