THE OZARKS
Showdown in the SCA

Class 2 #3 Mountain Grove(2-0) v.s. Class 2 #5 Ava(2-0)

This game will have large implications in both conference and districts. Whoever wins will become the favorite to win both.

Battle in the Big 8

Class 3 #7 Monett(2-0) v.s. Class 3 #8 Mount Vernon(2-0)

This game could also end up making a difference for both teams come district time. It could have an impact on the conference race as well, but it's too early to get a gauge on whether or not these two teams will be able to compete with Lamar for all 4 quarters.

The State Line Struggle

Class 3 #10 Seneca(2-0) vs Class 4 McDonald County(2-0)

Mc County traveling to Seneca. A lot of people think that this game is a given to Seneca based on past history and how the Indians are playing this year. I will admit, they are easily the favorite, but let's be honest.... When was the last time McDonald County was 2-0? When was the last time the only allowed 1 TD per game through the first two weeks of the season? The Mustangs are playing some defense this year. I could be dead wrong and Seneca could potentially run away with this one, but I truly believe this is going to be a battle for both teams.

Skirmish in Showtown

Class 5 Branson(1-1) v.s. Class 5 Carthage(0-2)

Branson barely skated by Neosho in week 1, 17-14. They followed that up with a 21-19 loss to Nixa in Week 2. Carthage is winless and throw in the fact that the Tigers will be headed to Branson and I think we're going to have a pretty nice contest. Based off of the last decade or so, most won't agree, but I think there is a big possibility that Carthage may start the season 0-3.

Duel in Dade County

Class 1 #10 Lockwood(2-0) v.s. Class 2 Forsyth(1-1)

First year varsity program Forsyth travels to Lockwood after taking a beating in Ava last Friday. It may have been the most physical team the Panthers have ever played after a few years of just JV football. Lockwood righted the ship last week after a less than impressive showing in Week 1 against Liberal. I don't think beating Rich Hill that bad is really worth too much though to be honest. I think this will be a very competitive game if both teams come to play. I suppose we shall see.

Shootout in Sarcoxie

Class 1 Sarcoxie(2-0) v.s. Class 1 Miller(1-1)

I know Miller will be able to put points up on the board, as well as Sarcoxie. Question will be who will play a better game defensively. This one is a toss-up in my mind. Will definitely have a big impact on districts I think.

The Clash @ Carl

Class 4 #3 Carl Junction(1-1) v.s. Class 5 #8 Ozark(2-0)

This game was an all out defensive show last year and I think there will be a little more scoring than in 2016, but nothing crazy. should be a pretty good game with the victor walking away with a win and a score of 28-21 or somewhere around there. A lot on the line for both teams as far as districts, conference, and state rankings are concerned.

I know I've left a few games out, but I've also put a few games in here that some people probably won't agree with. Let me know what you guys think or if there are any games that you think are going to be a dandy.

Totally agree with Carthage vs Branson. Branson looks a little undersized but they seem to have speed. Carthage looks tough as well. Should be a great game. I think Branson gets the win late.

Alright, that was a good post until you put these two games in there. These are clearly games that should be no contest.

Hey, I respect your opinion and by the end of the night you could very well be right. That's why I said there are a few games on this list that most won't agree with. I guess we'll see what happens.

Yes Carthage is 0-2 but look at who they have played vs who has Branson played. A close loss to a now ranked C5 team and against Webb City, arguably one of the best programs in all of Missouri, a game that was closer than the score would indicate.

Branson has a narrow win over a Neosho team that might struggle to win 2 more games. And a close loss to Nixa, who I think is middle of the COC at best.

So at this point, Carthage has to be favored in my opinion.

Having said that, teams sometimes play up or down to their competition. The Tigers might be feeling broken and demoralized after two very frustrating losses to start the season and allow a much improved Branson team to hang around in a game decided by whoever owns the last possession.

But I agree, this has the potential to be a very close and/or surprising game in many different ways.

McDonald County - I don't see that one, but who knows! I don't really follow either of those teams other than what I see on the news highlights and on here.

CJ/Ozark was a really tough pick for me. I went back and forth. I kind of thing one or the other is going to win by a 2+ score margin but I have no idea who.

Reeds Spring vs Bolivar is a big one in the COC-small. Both teams looking for their first win of the year but the winner takes a big step towards making a run at the last COC-small Championship, with Catholic still waiting for both.

I think that Bolivar will take a W against Reeds Spring by around 2 TDs, maybe more tonight. I could be very wrong, but just looking at who they've played thus far and how they've played against those level of competitions I just don't see the game being super close after half time. I could be wrong, but that's why I didn't include that game on my list. But I have been proven wrong many times, and I'm sure I will be with a few games on this list tonight as well.

I'll be spending the weekend with friends who live in the Reeds Spring area. We discussed starting the weekend either with this game, or Carthage at Branson. I think they will both be fun but we ended up decided on Carthage.
