Northwest Missouri State University has announced that there will be a change in the leadership of the Bearcat football program.

Head Coach Rich Wright's contract will not be renewed effective Dec. 31. Wright completed his eighth season at the helm of the Bearcat program on Saturday with a 23-7 loss to Pittsburg State. The Bearcats posted a mark of 6-5 overall and were 6-4 in MIAA play.

Wright served as a member of the Bearcat football coaching staff for 21 seasons. He coached in eight NCAA Div. II national championship games and helped the Bearcats secure national titles in 2009, 2013, 2015 and 2016. Wright is the winningest active MIAA coach with an overall mark of 65-22 (.747). He ranks No. 9 in winning percentage among NCAA Div. II head coaches with five or more years of experience.

Director of Athletics Dr. Andy Peterson said a national search will begin for the next head football coach for the Bearcats.

Co-Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach Chad Bostwick has agreed to serve as the interim head coach until a new head coach is selected.

Oh I understand that and Logan would be beyond a top candidate so will clarify I think that would not be a direction in which he would head. I believe he is D1 College (NFL some day?) material.

Mel's recruiting model was easily replicated by his proteges until the portal came into being.
That being said here is Wright's record 65 wins, 5 playoff berths, and 4 MIAA titles in 7 seasons.

The old system you were there and committed. Leaving was painful. Move and take the one year off penalty. Without that, you've got 19 year old brains thinking the grass is greener somewhere else. If you have a crappy environment and people want to leave, they can. Another dynamic. And other schools raiding players from the D2 level.

During one of our semiannual retreat business meetings a couple of years ago we were shown a beyond shocking stat that the average youngster stays at a job for ONE YEAR. We pay well and have about as top notch benefits package as you will find anywhere in KC metro still have maddening turnover.

That is why I said we are at the (near) terminal stage. The admin giving a HC a vote of confidence during the season rarely ends well. Ditto the NFL McCarthy is at this stage in Big D.

D1s and other D2s raid like crazy now too, with these rules. Side effect. D1s only signing 7 or 8 high schoolers. Less commitment and accountability for everyone. Yay
