I feel it will be that way this year tooLast year was bananas, too. The rumor mill here there and everywhere was hilarious.

People were saying this team was short on talent. They were never short on talent their talent was short on experience or not in the right place.
They have a lot of skilled kids and a lot of skilled coaches and a somewhat unique system that everyone knows. What they are able to do that most other programs cannot do is move kids around, give the next kid up a shot. If someone isn’t working out they have options. Most programs don’t have the depth to do that and make a meaningful difference, the team is either good or it’s not.
As an example I’m told that most programs hope to have one good QB roughly every other class of kids. There is a group coming up in Webb that has 3 good QBs in just one class. So when that group is varsity add those with other classes and they could potentially be down to the 4th string qb and still have better qb than many of their opponents. I’ve heard similar things about RBs.
Im not buying that shit at all or else some are right fire the coach. You have offseason workouts, then all summer long to get people trained up and in the right spot.People were saying this team was short on talent. I do agree with you there. Webb City used to come out ready to roll week 1 every year. I am not sure why that no longer seems to be the case, but I wonder if that's a question that's being asked.Im not buying that shit at all or else some are right fire the coach. I mean I have been coaching the last 18 years so I might ask myself however you are trying to make the exception the rule which is just ridiculous. Their may be a kid or 2 that fits your description per team but guaranteed 20 of the 22 jimmy and joe's will be recognizable before week 1.Offseason workouts are not the same as live bullets in a game, though. I've seen plenty of practice all-stars who couldn't perform in a game. Likewise, I've seen plenty of guys who are maybe not as impressive in the weight room or practice situations, but man, they are gamers. And you don't know who is who until they get in an actual game. You can likely ask anyone who has a good amount of experience coaching most sport.
It is amazing to me that 1 or 2 of those QBs won't move to another school where they could start without question for 2 or 3 years. The senior QB this year is pretty good but without the injury to Johnson he never would have gotten to play high school QB at all. Just seems like a waste.People were saying this team was short on talent. They were never short on talent their talent was short on experience or not in the right place.

I suppose most would rather stay with their friends and see limited time on a team that has a better probability to play longer in the fall than move to an unfamiliar place. It is amazing to me that 1 or 2 of those QBs won't move to another school where they could start without question for 2 or 3 years. No a week 1 team should not be a week 10 team but that being said we shouldn't be so off that we lose to Ozark and then beat PC in our swing.I’m not saying it’s the rule. I’m saying it happens, as you also know. But rarely is anyone’s week 1 team their week 10 team for various reasons, sometimes including the ones I mentioned. I’m should also mention that I don’t have any idea what’s going on there any more than you do, so perhaps it’s best to reserve judgment, at least for now.

The question I would be asking isn't how did you turn this group around it would be why did this group perform so poorly in the first place.
The reality is Webb City should never lose to Republic or Joplin or Carthage, outside of maybe a generational team like the one with Luke Gall, which btw still lost to WC in the district final. Losing 5 of the last 6 to Joplin is inexcusable. I mean no disrespect to those programs, but the reality is when those teams are outperforming WC varsity on any given friday night then something is broken with Webb City football.
Still you have to credit someone with getting this group from A to B. That doesn't just happen on it's own. Even if it didn't have to be that way.

That's an interesting take considering tou have no idea who they are but just another ignorant post

I honestly don't think some get it, all the perennial powers of public schools have not just a good or great HS coach, they have well run youth programs that the community supports. Webb has a community buy in at every age group, Kearney youth program is one of if not the best in the area. Hell KCYFL does scheduling by coach and not by team classification because some youth coaches take B teams and beat A teams with them consistently. Now to look at it the other way you can't have a very successful youth program without a half ass decent HS system and coach because kids need to have someone to look up to and though some don't realize it kids look up to the HS Players and want to be like them. Same for HS coaches kids hear and see good things and want to play for those coaches. JRod being one of the best at it.And we thank you for your service.
