Northwest Missouri State University has announced that there will be a change in the leadership of the Bearcat football program.
Head Coach Rich Wright's contract will not be renewed effective Dec. 31. Wright completed his eighth season at the helm of the Bearcat program on Saturday with a 23-7 loss to Pittsburg State. The Bearcats posted a mark of 6-5 overall and were 6-4 in MIAA play.
Wright served as a member of the Bearcat football coaching staff for 21 seasons. He coached in eight NCAA Div. II national championship games and helped the Bearcats secure national titles in 2009, 2013, 2015 and 2016. Wright is the winningest active MIAA coach with an overall mark of 65-22 (.747). He ranks No. 9 in winning percentage among NCAA Div. II head coaches with five or more years of experience.
Director of Athletics Dr. Andy Peterson said a national search will begin for the next head football coach for the Bearcats.
Co-Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach Chad Bostwick has agreed to serve as the interim head coach until a new head coach is selected.
