SO.....If a school district follows the Governors new plan or goes with their own modified plan (1 week contact trace or 10 day contact trace) athletes still have to contact trace for 14 days.

This means that athletes can come to school everyday, sit in class everyday, eat lunch with classmates everyday, but have to go home at the end of the day and can't be around their teammates to practice or play games.

For 14 days a high school boy/girl will walk the halls of their school like a normal kid, but cannot participate in athletics? I don't have all the answers, but it doesn't seem right.

This is correct. The theory is that since they are a contact and if they happen to be infected there is a much smaller risk of spreading the virus in the controlled classroom environment in which they will either be socially distanced or masked. However at practice with no mask and most likely physical contact there is a high probability of spreading it.

I guess when the odds of a student death from covid, (ages 5-24), so kindergarten through graduated from college is .000005% its just hard to understand.

CDC says 136 kids have died from the FLU this year....which is terrible. However, we never have shut down anything because of the flu.

Prayers to all those who have lost someone or are battling this nasty virus. Its just time for a vaccine.

I have zero doubt, in the not-so-distant future, we will look back on this time as one of the biggest overreactions in the history of the country. Imagine this scenario...You play a real, like REAL, basketball game. Sweating, boxing out, ball-pressure defense and the whole bit. But you can't shake your opponents hand before or after the game. Make sense of that. It's all very 2020.

Death is not the only issue with covid, it has lasting issues that ain't very pretty. It affects everybody differently but it can be losing your sense of taste and smell, which they say makes it very hard to eat, or long term breathing and heart or kidney issues. Many people are having hard time with memory and cognitive issues after having covid. I just heard of a person around here that will be on dialysis the rest of their life because of it. We have just scratched the surface of this thang. Maybe when the vaccine gets around enough we can get back to some kind of normal. Don't even try to compare this to the flu.

.000005%, 136 kids, those stats don't matter if your kid is one of them. The flu killed around 35,000 last year, to date covid over 257,000. What is the number you have to lose to shut everything down?

You should never shut anything down. In a free society there are inherent risks. Each individual should choose what risks they and their family are willing to take. If people want to wear a mask and live in a bubble then they can, but it should be their choice. If you want to live free then you should do that as well. Teens die all the time in car accidents. Should we keep them from driving? It’s all such BS. Don’t compare this to the flu because the flu is probably worse.

There is literally no peer reviewed evidence of any of that. None. Anecdotal is all that is there. Yes, someone recovered from COViD could suffer kidney failure. Was COViD the antecedent? Who knows. Might be a lifetime of kidney issues and a bought with COViD and lack of hydration was a mitigating factor. Or it’s all pure coincidence. Bottom line, nobody knows yet. And won’t. Viruses can and do have effects on soft tissue and organs. So do smoking, drinking, lack of hydration, poor diets, and lack of or over use of the body through physical activity. Or, you know, life. The numbers (percents) are staggering when you look at them. And btw, those kids dying aren’t “healthy” kids. Same kids that would die if they got Influenza A or pneumonia. If there ever was one healthy person under the age of about 60 to die from this, the freaking national media would cover it daily for a month.

I guess what your saying is you live in a free society and you you have the right to infect anyone you want. if you had 257,000 teens die this year in car accidents you might want to restrict their driving. The real BS is people like you and your ignorance.

257000 people, not teens, have died WITH COViD. Roughly 10% of that group FROM COViD. The real BS is the story being told, and the sheep that have decided to believe it...rather than to dig through the CDCs site and find the actual numbers. It’s nasty, yes. Most all viruses are. But it’s not some killer of even remotely healthy people.

Every year diseases kill thousands of Americans, none of them have killed 257,000 in eleven months. It's not about forcing people to give up their rights, it's about asking people to do the things necessary to stop this virus until the vaccine can be given to everyone, doesn't seem like much of a sacrifice.

I never said that 257,000 teens died from covid, I said if 257,000 teens died in car accidents you might want to keep them from driving. it was a dumb comparison by da bears to covid. As for it not being a killer of even remotely healthy people you should read "Why are young healthy people dying from Covid-19?"

But see, that’s just it. It’s not a dumb comparison at all. Especially when you consider far more healthy teens die in car accidents. Exponentially more, in fact. But teens aren’t told they can’t drive, like they’re being told they can’t go to school or play athletics...Link it, but save the clicks if it’s the Kaiser/Guardian piece. That thing has been torn apart and fact-checked out of existence. If there were a shred of fact-based information in it the media would be screaming it.

A mask isn’t a big deal until the vaccine. They’re basically worthless, but whatever. The sacrifices that are utter stupidity are the forced shutdowns, limited gatherings, and what is happening in education. Given what this virus is, told by the actual numbers, is nuts. And as a country, we will look back on this time and question the sanity of all the bought and sold this narrative.

I agree with Mark Twain, "Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience." I hope you and your family stay safe.

I’ve learned early on you can’t reason with many people. No since in even trying. I just don’t get why people can’t research and see this as what it is. It’s been bad for the elderly and the vulnerable, but healthy teenagers it is not. The great scamdemic continues. Smh

So YOU know there will be NO long term effects from having this? I know a few right here in this area that are having issues long after they first tested positive. They've been in and out of the hospital several times. It just won't leave them alone and let them get back to "normal."

I just saw a national news reporter at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis talking to the staff and they're telling him they are stretched to the limit. They can get equipment and supplies for the most part but they can't just create more doctors, nurses and the folks that are trained to run the ventilators that keep patients breathing. This ain't no joke or a hoax people, the hospitals in several states are about to max out and there are temporary morgues being set up in some places to take care of the victims of this virus.

It's amazing to me that anyone could doubt how bad this is and how bad it's going to get. Read the Post on what people did in !918 and what kind of action the city of St. Louis took.

Do YOU know there will be ANY long term effects? Of course not. But here’s the thing, any viral infection will leave you worse than it found you. Because of this...What are we supposed to do? Wear a mask until a vaccine? Sure...Mass shutdowns? Limitations on gatherings? Virtual schools? No.

This is true in many areas. But here’s the thing, it’s not the responsibility of the healthy (and young) to stop living their lives. Every single time I walk through a store I see people who are obviously not in great health in public. These are the people filling up the hospitals. If they choose not to stay home and take precautions, that’s their decision.

I've decided not to argue. I knew when Donald talked about drinking bleach some idiots would do it and they did and some died. You have the right to do stupid things. It's sad that some of those take down smart ones with them or kill them without anything happening to them.

I know there has been many of those cases for sure! This virus attacks pretty much every organ in your body. It is NOT like the flu where you get sick for few days it's all good again. It's even causing brain injuries in some that we already know about. There is a doctor treating some of those in a hyperbaric chamber just like he does people with traumatic brain injuries because they have 'brain fog', they can't remember things and they have trouble doing routine stuff. No it's not everybody but it ain't just old sick folks either! We got rid of the measles for along time until there was so many folks that don't even remember the measles and now they won't let their kids get that vaccine. They stopped letting kids in school that don't have the vaccines they need a long time ago to keep from spreading it all over the country again.

They just don't get that ain't all about them and their 'right' to go out and do anything they want. Hospitals and their ICU beds are filling up to where if someone has a heart attack or a bad wreck may not get the care they should because of the over crowding issues a lot of places already have. Not to mention the staff at hospitals in a lot of places are worn out with no help in sight.

You need to turn off CNN and quit reading every internet article linked with a quack and a keyboard. Yes, all of those things happen in patients that either have, or have had COViD. Was COViD the cause or antecedent? You have absolutely no idea. Case in point. The myocarditis claims. Yes, there have been patients that have recovered, that after being examined, have shown signs of acute myocarditis. You know what’s missing? Any evidence from previous EKGs or scans that would show a pre-existing condition. Is it possible this virus could cause myocarditis in infected patients? Absolutely. Most any virus acutely present in the upper respiratory system will have some effect on soft tissues and muscles. But, soft tissues and muscles also regenerate. If you’re elderly and in poor physical condition, your body might not regenerate. And in the end, we will have no idea of the long-lasting effects until, you know, there have been some actual studies in the long-term. Prior to that it’s all conjecture and medical opinions from both sides. Given the actual numbers, and what we know (if you actually dig around and find the info outside of your 6pm news) about this virus, if you want to stay at home and keep yourself safe from harm, do it. If you feel the way I do, then don’t. It’s really that simple. And the fact that kids lives are being hindered (and have been for the last 8 months) for something that has zero effect on them is batcrap.

I would say the kids that have died or gotten sick from it might not say the same thing even if it is a small amount. But heck, you can go back to my bleach remark.

Ok I give up, you are no doubt a hardcore Trump guy that believes everything he says. If he says we're turning the corner on this virus you're all in no matter how much bull shit that is! I'm watching real people and real doctors and nurses that use their real names and speak on live tv, not reading internet articles from some quack on a keyboard. You've known me long enough to know I ain't the guy digging up crap on the internet and looking up stuff on left wing website or posting somebody's tweets to argue my point.

Didnt vote for him in 16 or 20, fwiw. But you made my point. You’re getting fed your information from the mainstream media. I’m telling you man, I was in the same spot you were until about June. I talked to a couple of docs in person. Just regular docs, one GP and one ER doc. Both laughed at me when I told them how scared I was and that my family hadn’t gone ANYWHERE since mid March. They told me who was getting gravely sick. And who was dying. And told me to do some digging. So I did, let’s face it, I had plenty of time. The story the national media is telling is just so very slanted. It’s borderline criminal. And it’s messing with lives of a lot of really good people.

And those same kids would’ve died had they gotten a common cold or the flu probably. There’s not been one single healthy kid pass from this. I worked in a building for two years that had students that would/would’ve died from this. Death is horrible. But those same kids I saw spend weeks and months in the hospital with colds, flus, and infections. It doesn’t make it okay for them to die, but it also doesn’t make it okay to shut down the education of masses either. That’s the point.

So that makes it ok for other people to go out and get infected, and maybe not even know it, then go see their extended family and give int to them? What the hell is the mainstream media anyway? Fox news claims they beat everybody in the ratings then want to claim THEY are not the MSM? How does that work? Do you really believe these people from the CDC and people like Birx and Fauci are just flat out lying to all of us? For what? What do they have to gain by telling us this stuff? If you think all these people all are lying to us that tell their horror stories about having the virus and how bad it was, and still is, for them I'm quite sure I ain't gonna convince you otherwise since you think its made for TV BS! Go out and do your thang, just stay away from people that don't want to get it when you do. Now back to basketball for however long it lasts this season.

Can you get the names of the two doctors Eagles Ball talked too? I want to make sure that no one in my family is ever treated by them. I call BS, to much QAnon. I'll be happy to find an excellent cult deprogrammer for Eagle and anyone else who needs the help.

We have been wearing masks, social distancing and canceling events for 9 months and there are more cases than ever. It won’t stop the virus. The only thing(s) that are going to stop the virus is herd immunity and/or a vaccine. Have the high risk population be extremely careful, let the rest of the population live their lives

The CDCs website is where the numbers are from. 250,000ish deaths in a country of 353M. Of the deaths (not FROM, but all that died WITH) 70% of that number were avg age of 78 yrs old AND had AT LEAST two of the MAJOR underlying conditions. And this was back in June, when treatment procedures were still relatively new. This is who is dying. And I have no clue of Fauci and his reasoning. It’s a real virus, and it’s devastating for that group I mentioned. But that’s also no reason to shut things down. It’s the responsibility of those that fall in those categories, and those around them, to take precautions. I don’t think we disagree on that one bit.

I’m not going to name them. One was my doctor for two yrs and one was an ER doc at St Luke’s East. They said is someone like me (mid 40s and reasonably good health and active) got it and actually showed symptoms, it would most likely present as a cold or influenza A (at the worst). They both said basically the same thing, take precautions. And both agreed shutting things down was stupid. Both were pretty quick to mention that if those at risk didn’t take precautions, that the empty hospitals (this was back in June) would fill up pretty quickly. Which I assume is what you see now. Have a couple fam workers that work at a hospital with 50 vents. 42 are currently in use. All 42, yes, every single one, meet the 70% criteria.
