MSHSAA not allowing free post season streams?

Oh I hear ya!! I don't have any idea what they do all day. But I think the same thing about school's administration. We have 2 elementaries, middle school, and high school, and each has an assistant principal and a principal, superintendent, assistant superintendent, Director of Student Services and assistant, Dir of Tech and assistant, Director of Communication, and adding more all the time.

Here is what our Radio Station/broadcaster told me. MSHSAA is charging them the usual fee to broadcast the games. It has to go through the BlueFrame Technology MSHSAA has partnered with so they can charge the $10 per game for it. Our local station already uses BlueFrame so it's pretty easy for them. From what our local station said MSHSAA is making money twice off of each broadcast.

So apparently some games are not on mshsaa.tv, so they don't let local outlets broadcast the game but then don't broadcast it themselves. That's awesome.

I've always been curious as to MSHSAAs legal authority to claim broadcasting rights to theses games. They don't own the logos, they don't operate the schools, the don't pay the players. I know players sign something when they play allowing for use of their image, but that is not the same as giving away exclusive rights to your image. Do schools have to agree to these rules? Why would the schools agree to these rules since they don't realize any money from it? If you were livestreaming the game on Facebook from the stands, what are they going to do? Where does their authority in this matter come from?

Good question. Consult a legal expert on intellectual property rights, but I don’t think MSHSAA can claim exclusive rights to these games being freely cast by individuals paying to attend, unless refusal of that right is expressly stated on the tickets like you see at concerts. I would love to see a mass of people sharing the games live on YouTube, etc. and see what MSHSAA does about it.

Whats right, wrong or legal in the US today no longer matters. Government rules. Anyway gotta pay for that new stadium and 20 coach salaries. They charge to go to the game right? Attendance is down. Covid, streaming. Its that or raise your property tax which by the way, is about to blow thru your roof.
