Are you guys saying NO post regular season games will be allowed to be freely streamed to the fans who can’t attend? Will that include Districts and the rest? No Prepcasts? No Grandpa’s Game of the Week?

WTH is this State coming to?

I also saw on MSHSAA Facebook page that starting with Districts for every sport, that tickets are sold digitally.

Kind of seems like a good opportunity to just stream it anyway and force mshsaa's hand to what... sue and individual or a school district for streaming a hs game that people cant attend in person because of restrictions or personal health concerns?

So...MSHSAA can arrange all this, yet cannot seem to put together a decent ShoMe Bowl program?
I hear you. I was very disappointed when they made the announcement that the Show Me Championships were going to be held in Jefferson City. When I go to any MSHSAA championship I stay all day this year I can't.

Yes. No district games can be streamed for free is the way I understand it

Anyone from the general public can live stream it on The Facebook. It would be impossible for them to monitor. It would also allow you to step up and try to commentate better than the broadcasters that call the games week to week.

Where is this published at? I can't find it on the MSHSAA website. Not quite sure what that all means. We've always had to pay MSHSAA for broadcasting all playoff games which could be the same as what this thread title says.

Per MSHSAA football manual 20-21.

10. Beginning with the Quarterfinal round of the MSHSAA playoff series, radio rights fees will be the following: Class 1- $25, Class 2- $30, Class 3- $35, Class 4- $40, Class 5- $45, Class 6- $50.

9. A rights fee shall be charged for broadcasts at MSHSAA postseason contests.
Internet-audio only: Class 1- $25 Class 2- $30 Class 3- $35 Class 4- $40 Class 5- $45 Class 6- $50
Internet-video broadcasts:
Delayed Broadcast: (Districts through MSHSAA Quarterfinal) - $250 per game
Delayed Broadcast: (MSHSAA Semifinal/MSHSAA Championship) - check MSHSAA office
Live Broadcast: (Districts through MSHSAA Quarterfinal) - $500 per game
Live Broadcast: (MSHSAA Semifinal/MSHSAA Championship) - check MSHSAA office

I hope a players family sues MSHSAA for profiting off there likeness

I would imagine the only way around it is donations . As far as Webb city webcasts go (I'll stick with that bc I'm familiar) all webcasts were free except state championships which they had no rights to webcast . I'm fine paying 10-25$ to stream all the state games even tho the quality sucks , the announcers don't know what they are talking about , they are so zoomed out it looks like ants , they call Webbs coach Rodriguez because they don't do any sort of homework and obviously don't follow Missouri hsfb . All that giant pile of crap combined ...I'll pay to see the state games . I will not pay 10$ to watch McCounty lose by 88 to Webb etc

Are there any updates on this topic? I heard they walked back on this for softball after backlash but as of now were still forcing fans to either attend in person or pay MSHSAA for their stream. Do they even have the resources to coordinate that many productions, especially first week of districts?

The guys on Webb City's radio were encouraging people to call MSHSAA and let them know what we think.

Someone just do a Facebook live
Grandpa live streamed Stayley's post-district games from the stands on Youtube last year. Did a better job than Prepcasts.com did because he didn't have replays blocking the next play. I guess Prepcasts.com finally got the message in the second half because they stopped the replays. You don't have time for replays when Jackson is on offense. They're too fast for that.

I am still having a really hard time wrapping my head around this. In the grand scheme of things it's not a that big a deal, I've got bigger things to get worked up about. But really, how can an organization be so dense? If they announced this over the summer in a random year I'd be annoyed and call them greedy but whatever, so be it. But midway through THIS season?

With one hand they are literally putting out notices regarding pandemic safety and protocols and also at the same time taking advantage of a somewhat captive audience by monopolizing the events and maximizing their revenue. The choice of timing for this change is so incredibly poor, if not incompetent. They are just asking for it.

I totally understand your frustrations, I've experienced them myself, but I quit dealing with it long ago when someone on this board (and I wish I could recall the name) pointed out that "they" are "us" so we really only have ourselves to blame.

I know the district championship softball game for Webb was pay to view .

I wondered when this was coming honestly, I am not all knowledgeable in MSHSAA funding, however in the year of Pandemic shut downs smaller crowds I am sure MSHSAA funding sort of dried up starting last year during the basketball championships. Hey those woman in men working for MSHSAA don't work for free, so I am sure they have to somehow have some sort of income.... be it off live streams or gate fees, so their salaries can be paid.

Your school administrators vote for these clowns, maybe you all need to start calling your local AD's and supers and say hey this is bull crap...you need to stand up for your fans especially this year when crowd sizes are limited. You might not have any power over MSHSAA but you do control your local school board and Sups and AD's.

Second thing is MSHSAA going to overrule places where there may be crowd limits imposed so there is an option of attending the game in person or watching online?

I think MSHSAA is very greedy, these are amateur athletes, our kids, the neighbor boy, etc. and as parents or casual fans of the local school it’s pretty amazing to me I have to pay to sit here in my house and watch. I understand paying when I attend in person, to help cover all the various costs. Sorry if that sounds a little hypocritical.

Now to my real point: if I understand correctly, it’s not all that expensive for a school or someone to broadcast the game should they choose to go that route. It says $500 above. Isn’t there a sponsor or does the school have the funds to just pay the $500 and stream their game for free? I wonder what is being paid by CJ to City link TV to even turn on the feature to make people pay? CJ will have two home games maximum = $1,000

Ste Gen has a Broadcasting class. Students do most of the broadcasting, sometimes a faculty member joins them. There is no fees for student run broadcasts, but MSHSAA has exclusive rights as sponsor of the state tournaments.

I heard that Valle's first game on 10/30 will be AUDIO broadcast on Prepcast.

Teams have audio rights all the way through . Used to have video rights untill the state championships. Now mshaa has video rights starting in districts from what I gather

Last year it was $500 to stream a game, you paid the fee and streamed however you want. Joplin and Carthage fans both raised money to pay the streaming fees in their post season games last year. My understanding is that this is no longer allowed.

I actually thought what the heck and called MSHSAA to clarify the new rule, just to see what they said. I got a really side stepped and polished answer.

What she told me was that it was NOT correct that local media can no longer provide coverage. But then went on to say there are certain new restrictions... one of which is that the feed is only allowed to go through the MSHSAA platform, not their own website or youtube or whatever they use. They can link it on their site - but viewers would still have to purchase the game from MSHSAA.

So in effect if KDMO or JETHD students want to volunteer to provide mshsaa with content which will be kept behind a paywall - they can do that.

If anyone takes the time to look through the 13 page document you will see Mshsaa made half a million dollars in 18-19 off the playoffs you will also see Mshsaa spent 2,474,657 dollars in salaries and benefits in 2019. It seems without this monopoly on streams Mshsaa executives will not be able to have 6 figure salaries and would have to take pay cuts
