So your son's were not getting stronger? They don't dress out for weights ? and you turn to mosports to say it is the coaches fault. Most problems start at home, not the other way around. I wish I had son's! You are a lucky man, but to place blame on them not being productive on another, well maybe mom needs to step in and be the man in that family!

But I am sure as you put it THE GROVE will keep excelling after they get rid of the weak link!

I was responding to posters that where saying Stucky was let go without just cause, if those posters hadn't made statements that Stucky was let go for no reason then I wouldn't of posted the reasons why he was let go.Besides He was hired to coach Football and that entails instilling discipline within the players and to also run the weight room to improve their physical ability. The job he was doing was evaluated by the administration and he didn't meet the criteria for being rehired based on coming up short in those two area's and a few others.

Sort of odd that you think Mom and Dad should some how do the Coaches job in the weight room from the dinner table, and make Jimmy and Joe dress out and work out ? If that is the case then Maybe Mom and Dad should be paid and take on the Coaching duties. If you are hired to do a job and then fail to do that job and it's obvious to the Players, Parents, Fans and the School administration that you are not performing your duties then what choice is there but to move in a different direction. .

You guys are way off base on why Stucky was let go...while he is a great guy and was liked he was lacking in some dept. our discipline had went to heck and the weight room was in shambles. Also Stucky isn't married.


The lack of discipline was not well received by the higher ups and the PE style work ethic in the weight room galvanized the parents and fans to want a quick change.

His game day coaching and system was not the issue. As I stated Stucky was well liked by almost everyone. But with that said his style of coaching and such didn't mesh well in the community.

His Win/Loss record didn't factor into this decision nor did our Loss to Aurora...they clearly out talented us at most positions.

Whose kid didn't get to play? It all goes back to PT. Always does, always will.

For them it was a good year though. Its been at least a decade if not longer since they have made it that far. They have bounced back and forth between Class 2 and 3 for some time... so while they are always among the smallest in Class 3, they are just about the largest when they get to play Class 2.

If I didn't dress out for weights class, my mom and dad would be racing either other to change my clothes them selves and get me with the belt a couple times too.... And because my parents, along with the rest of the kids in my communities parents, discipline their own children, instead of blaming coaches and making excuses, we won a state.. And as you stated earlier, your way, has not. Therefore, your expectations for success are not wins and player development, but rather obedience to what the parents THINK should be done

So what wonderful awesome program do you come from.. I never said the Grove was the best in the state.. You my hail from Web City or some great football power like that.. So tell us all about your greatness..

The coach has to have a program that he and his staff believe will result in winning. The staff has to buy into that program and do their part to support it. The administration has to buy into the program and believe in the coaches vision. The players have to buy into that program and agree that it is their responsibility to apply themselves to that program to achieve success for the team. They must also realize that there are consequences for choosing "self" over "team". The parents have to buy into the program and realize that little johnny might serve the team better as a tight end and not the quarterback. The parents have to buy into the program and realize that the coach will put the players on the field that will produce results, regardless of whether they are a senior, or not and the coach is well aware that when he calls for a play and it is unsuccessful, he realizes the ramifications and doesn't need second guessing from the stands. All this relies on a coach who is passionate about his players and their best interests. Sometimes, those best interests are not about winning on the field but about winning in life. The results can be wins and conference championships and district championships and even State Championships,,,,, maybe.

Playing time for any athlete wasn't the issue at all. The right kids played. Again no weight room program an no structure and dicipline was the issues.Stucky was on a short leash to begin with when he was hired do to a career losing record and not being in the coaching field for 4-5 years,but he was given the opportunity to coach here based on his nice guy persona. But being a nice guy wasn't Enough to keep him employed do to his short comings in other areas of coaching.

It's not like this is some aberration in his head coaching career...I doubt the 4 other schools who let him go where wrong either.

We have never had a issue with kids not working in the weight room and the parents where the ones upset about him not having the players dress and not working them hard. Many of the Mom and Dads where taking them to other facilities to receive proper instruction and to lift. You can't just tell the players to lift and then talk on your cell phone the whole class or play dodge ball and expect to be retained as our head coach.

Also this decision was Management driven of course the parents complained about his not showing up to practice or his lacking in the weight room but those complaints where not going to get him terminated.....what did was when those issues where investigated they where true.

I agree with what you said but you left out one important component and that is talent.

Also Stucky was deficient in most of the areas you mention.

I agree it seems weird that some posters are attacking the answer to their questions .. but if you look deeper into it you will see that some of those posters are conference mates who are upset that we dominate them in the conference,so any pot shot is simple venting and to top it off it's not good for their programs W-Loss record that we are not keeping a less than suitable coach around. Making a quick change before major damage could be done will only make it harder on their coaches and programs.

You are clearly missing the point. He already said they don't care about wins and loses. They care if the coach missed a couple practices, or was on his cell phone during practice, and that his kids were not getting stronger in the weight room. He said something about the upper class kids in the Grove's kids not getting enough playing time. That is unacceptable in the eyes of the GROVE. He stated he was not married and the Grove is a married town. Everyone in that town who is placed in charge of anything is married and it is unacceptable to not be married. He already said he delegated too many responsibilities out to his assistants, and no good program has their assistants doing real responsibilities. Now I may be way off here but he already said that is why he was let go. He already said they have never reached the dome or won any state titles, but he clearly stated it is the Grove way or the highway! Now I can not spell it out any clearer than he already did, and if this little summary of what he said isn't helping you understand the Grove Way, then sir, I can not help you.

The reason I responded to this thread had less to do with coach Stuckey than the attitude that MG deserves some super coach. Mountain Grove has one of the most successful programs in the state to not win a title. Maybe the problem isn't the coach?
