A win this weekend against Georgia will go a long way in recruiting. I like the direction they've gone this year with Drink and company and feel good about the future. It really seems like his players love him.

They have exceeded any and all expectations for this season, in an SEC only schedule as well. He is a very good play caller. Recruiting very well. Hope we can keep him.

hopefully it doesnt turn into a suitcase mike situation. i do think they will end up having to fatten his contract. he seems to like it here.

I said that on tigerboard that they should give him another couple years, bump salary and bump buyout. Got ripped for that though. Looking at it objectively in only 1 year, SEC only schedule, no spring ball, recruiting being changed as far as visits, contact, etc., it's obvious the dude has the "it" quality IMO. he is a great play caller.

Obv the longer the virus lags on, finances are going to start becoming an issue at places other than the top blue bloods. Money will never be an issue at Michigan, Texas, Ohio State, SEC top tier teams, etc. Lower level places, smaller schools, and the like are going to start feeling the pinch with loss of revenue.

Cue Veer re-directing to Kentucky's season...

I get pumping the brakes on an extension. They have beaten LSU, uSC, and Arky all by one score. None of the three are good. They got housed by Florida and Bama. Beat a really bad UK team by 10. And got drilled in an UGLY performance against a bad Tennessee team. And beat Vandy badly, as has everyone else with a faint pulse. All of this is to say, given the teams on their schedule, they've done about what you would expect them to do, right? I know all Tiger fans (including a bunch of my buddies on a group text) celebrated the LSU win like it was a watershed moment, but LSU isn't exactly LSU. They're 3-5 and basically bad enough to get everyone fired on the defensive side of the ball, and put Orgeron on the hot seat one year removed from a natty.

Now...the positive is, Drink pretty much passes the eye test. They're getting better, I think. Giving up 48 to Arky is a concern. Drink's biggest concern is finding a defensive staff. My guess is, somebody like him who is young and elevated quickly, his resources are limited. He probably kept Walters because he didn't have much of an option. Walters isn't very good at all. His defenses are bad. Drink needs to find someone on that side of the ball and let them run with it. Drink also seems to understand the hype/social media game. You have to like he's got a pulse (unlike Odom) and isn't afraid to stick it out there a little. Which can probably only help in recruiting.

All of this to say, an extension now isn't warranted even in today's culture. His margin of error has been extremely narrow. The LSU and Arky games could've (some would argue should've) gone the other way. I'd want to see what he can do in year two, but he certainly seems to be trending in the right direction.

Dude's killing it on the recruiting trail. Block M helmet is back. We're beating who we're supposed to (sans Tennessee, but Blaze didn't start). I'm encouraged.
I think that's a pretty fair assessment. Rivals has their 2021 class at 20. 247 has it at 30. Anywhere in that delta is decent. Puts them about middle of the pack in the SEC. As long as he can do that, keep that damned Tiger with the feather coming out of it's butt off the helmet, and continue to provide social media entertainment...I'm sure he'll be fine. Just not sure anything he's done YET is worthy of a bump and extension. Give him some ca$h to hire a D-coordinator though. That'd be a solid investment.

I get that they can't build him a house out of 100 dollar bills, but he is killing it recruiting wise, winning SEC games (I get it as well Vandy, LSU, SC, etc. aren't exactly contenders) but holding it together in this climate, with his system and climate being new on top of no spring ball, coming back against Arky like that when most teams would have folded, you get the point. I can't imagine bigger programs with struggles aren't taking notice. I have a family member who is high up with an NFL team, he said the football coaches and management side think he is a future star. Hope we can keep him.

After giving up 522 yards in the first three quarters today, my vote is to hold off on that extension. Having to score 50 to beat Arky and losing to 2-win Tennessee didn’t exactly make me want to open up the vault yet either.

Gotten beaten pretty handily by the good teams. If you’re decent, they e beaten who they should. Don’t have a good win. Yeah, yeah...all wins in the SEC are good. I get it. Just nothing to overreact about. Hell, State could get them and it all be very average.

If our standards are to meet Pinkle type success, we will fire every coach we hire. Bowl games should be the expectation. Nothing more.

I remember the firing of Warren Powers. The reason?
“He can’t get us into a major bowl.“ Those 8-4 seasons were becoming too boring, I suppose.

Enter Woody’s Wagon!

How many times have we seen this “Fire Coach (Insert name here)” lead to decent programs spiraling into anonymity?

People at Texas, Michigan, etc. better consider - before they go and replace someone, they’d better have a pretty good idea of what they’re going to replace him with.
This times a million. Texas and Michigan great examples.

I don’t think the guy is as good as Pinkel but I think you have a good head coach now. I wouldn’t break the bank but it looks like he has things going in the right direction.

Don't know if Drink will get a raise, But with Malzahn getting fired some coaches will get a nice raise to stay or be the next coach of Auburn. Thoughts?

Hugh Freeze either gets a big raise at Liberty, or is the next HC at Auburn. A bunch of presidents and boards would bank on this and call the bluff of any coach trying to sell their interest in Auburn for a raise. Has there ever been a job made for someone, and someone made for a job, as much as Auburn and Hugh Freeze?

Mr Freeze is no longer in consideration for the job. Crystalball or Kevin Steele is the latest word.
I can't imagine they're going to spend $20M to toss Guss...all to go with his D-coordinator. And then to have to spend another $8M to "pry" Christobel from Oregon? Idk man, they've got to be way down on the list for this to be happening.

I'd say Freeze has to have an agreement somewhere already. Man, I wanted it to be Auburn so badly. Be fun to have him and Joey Freshwater both just trolling Saban on the reg. Maybe the Vols are going to move on from Pruitt and that's where he's headed.

Thanks Cards...Just distributed the electronic study guide for the final. Looks like you've just covered the rest of the day for me. Idk if it could be better than that Orange bloods or whatever Texas board I was lurking when they hired Strong...but those screen shots make me think it's gonna be close.

Gaaahhhhhhhhhh...Danged pay site. Crud. That could've been epic. I've watched live video feeds of the door of the Memphis basketball facility when UK hired Cal. I can take this lurking thing places most people won't.

Here he is yesterday. Apologies if the 'p' word offends.

Only thing I get from this is...I'm freezing my keester off in SWMO...and this dude looks like he's on the golf course in a Polo in late December. 8.5 more years!!!

Just looked at their free board. Completely spammed out, no new posts since 2015. Oh well, thread titles paint the picture.

Yeah, he's a golf snob. I would have to wager he won't be golfing today, it's cold in Mississippi right now.
I resemble that remark. Little bit of a cold wave in the south currently. This is the decision I struggle with. I don't really want to go to middle or south Florida. Tampa-ish even seems too far for me. And about the first time I'd have to pack up for a hurricane, I'm not coming back. So I've basically settled on Tuscaloosa/Oxford/Athens/Starkville (least attractive)/Birmingham/Auburn/Jackson/Hattiesburg...my wife has lived in NC before and loved it...So I guess there's a chance there, but I'm not sure that's far enough south. I want big enough that has everything, but small enough it's not a "city". Would love to be near a major college town, just for sports. Would really love to be within an hour-ish of big city for pro sports. There are a few places between Atlanta and Athens we're going to start visiting to get a feel for...but I need to be able to play golf about 11.5 months of the year while the wife is working and the youngest is at school.

I'm in West Point a stones throw from Old Waverly and the new Mossy Oak courses. As far as great golf goes, they are hard to top. Great HS football team as well (tied with South Panola for all-time titles). Mississippi State is just down the road. Oxford is only 2 hours away. Same with Tuscaloosa. Tupelo is just 1 hour away. And yet, it's Mississippi. The reputation is well earned. We're thinking of retiring in West Tennessee, but haven't fully decided yet. Still have at least 10 years to think about it.

Ok...Gimmie the skinny on MS and the reputation. Because I hear it (low income, poor schools...blah blah), but the limited time I've spent in Hattiesburg and Jackson (Madison/Ridgeland) it seems really nice. But good lord, the drive down 55 to get there is DEPRESSING. I honestly like the idea of MS really, but we'll have a 4th or 5th grader by the time I hang it up. I don't want her in a economically depressed area with awful schools, just so her dad can play golf.
