The Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving in the dome going to watch all the teams play for Championships the older I am getting the more the weather keeps me from going the dome allowed me to take my dad who now is gone to go with me and enjoy with him watching games knowing he is not getting cold.

Of course I am sure you got tired of Kearney beating Webb City all those years. I will miss those games till KHS can get back to class 5. Not many programs have gone into the SW and beat Webb like Kearney did.

Kearney didn't do much in Class 5. unlike Webb City. Best your school stay in Class 4 - lol

As a member of the sports media, it was nice to have all the games at one location over a two-day period in a climate controlled atmosphere. I remember most of the teams and games I got to cover from Aurora in 1999, Webb City and Lockwood in 2001 with Anvil Welch, Marionville in 2003.
Then the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association would meet on Sunday morning to select the all-state teams. So many stories and memories.
It worked so well logistically, it was so much better than covering state championships in Kansas where the championship games were scattered over four or five college locations all over the state.
In 2000, Southeast Kansas had five teams make it to state championship games in five of the seven classes — Pittsburg in Class 5, Fort Scott 4, Frontenac Class 3, St. Mary’s-Colgan Class 2-1 and St. Paul in 8-man Division I.
Got shipped out to Hays, Kansas to cover Frontenac and Colgan as it was the only site hosting two games. At least the weather wasn’t horrible.
That’s when I realized how good Missouri had it.

Actually that is not true. 2013 Kearney made it to the semifinals after coming back to surprise Fort Osage 13-9 in another of those very brutal KC metro playoff classics. Losing that semi was no shame that LSW team was epic good.

It is a crying shame the Sporting stadium was built over in KCK not the Bannister Mall site. They could have enclosed that and we would have an indoor facility.

The funny thing I remember hearing from many was how HOT it got under those Dome lights and how it affected kids late in games. I agree, though, I'd still take that over the unpredictable outdoor December weather in CoMo.

And on that note, parking aside, I REALLY liked going to Springfield in 2016 even if I did freeze near to death LOL................

The Dome still exists. Mizzou played a game there this year. Why doesn’t MSHSAA use it again?

Well the new women's soccer stadium would be a great place for it to be and right next to the Casino would be a plus too.
I have actually read about this and agree it could be a great option. As for the casino....................

Too bad I'm not smart enough to post screenshots from social media platforms. Found this on the KSHSAA Twitter account.

At least Missouri not having to deal with this tomorrow for its state championship games:

The dome was the best for the state championships. Faurot field is a great place to hold the state championship but having to play in a bigger stadium the game atmosphere doesn’t feel the same then playing at the dome. I say in the next 3+ years MSHSAA will go back to 5 Classes. We are technically at 305 schools including University Academy and MMA. I see another 4 to 5 schools head to 8-Man in the coming years.

The dome still exist but they now host the Gateway Dirt Nationals during state Championship week. I agree MSHSAA need to the move the season up 1 week and bring back the state Championships on Thanksgiving Weekend.

Even casual unknowing fans know that week one is completely ridiculous in the playoffs. Lower seeds gotta go

And notice that 12 of the 24 quarter-finals in 11-Man were blowouts last week (Lost by 3 or more touchdowns)

I don’t know why they don’t do it at Missouri State every now and then 🤷🏻‍♂️
I thought they were going to rotate years but they just stuck with Columbia maybe because it’s home for mshsaa and mizzou is p5? But everyone I heard from who went to the games at plaster said it was fantastic. Granted these were all people from SWMO so only driving an hour or so probably was a plus. But facility wise everyone seemed to think it was a good fit for the event. Wish they would have more there. Do they still have basketball there or did they give that all to Columbia as well? The MSU arena is just as good as mizzous.

I prefer Plaster to Mizzou. The upper deck is close to the field. Great place to watch a game.

It shouldn't be a home game for certain areas all the time. Every sport should rotate.

I agree. I can buy the logic of having it in the centrally located state capital or even Columbia with UMC facilities (especially if you are prioritizing the kc and stl populations), not every town is equipped to host that kind of event. But Springfield clearly is and that shares the love and travel related $$ with the southern part of the state instead of keeping it all up north.

I enjoyed watching it at Plaster.

They just redid the classes. They will give this set up at least 5 years.
