THE OZARKS
So here’s what I’ve got without hitting the internet to do some deep research...

Ozark Mountain Daredevils(formed in Springfield)

Sheryl Crow(from Kennett, MO)

David Nail(country singer from Kennett, MO)

Sara Evans(country singer from Columbia area.... Ashland maybe??)

Nelly is St Louis(most people of at least 30 years old know that)

Tech N9ne (Kansas City Rapper who hit it big for a little while 10-15 years ago)

Ha Ha Tonka (from West Plains, MO. they’re a more indie-folk type band who’ve traveled the country and into Europe at one point I believe. Signed with a smaller record label probably 10-15 years ago.

Eminem was born in St Joseph, MO I’m pretty sure

I'm pretty sure I heard that Puddle of Mudd is from STL. I haven’t confirmed that but it was definitely surprising.
there were big on the rock scene from probably 2000-2007?

I’m sure there are many others that I’m missing.
Come on everybody!

Marshall Mathers was born in St. Joe and Chuck Berry born in the STL. Puddle of Mudd is from KC.

Rainmakers lead man was Bob Walkenhorst from Norborne. Sara Evans was from New Franklin.
Brewer and Shipley are from Missouri.

Ric Boyer from Ste. Genevieve played bass and later steel guitar, toured with Eddie Rabbit and Billy Swan in mid '70s, married Irene Mandrell and played bass in Barbara Mandrell and Sisters Band (not during the TV show era). He became a studio musician in Nashville, and played and recorded with a long list of country music royalty - Cash, Willie, Merle, Perkins, Acuff etc. Good guy and quite a character.

Ferlin Husky-Desloge
Ian Fisher(was in Rolling Stone not long ago)- Sainte Genevieve

And who could forget ol Twosticks himself! Pride of Ste. Gen.

Never knew that about the Rainmakers..makes him the second most famous person from little Norborne, behind NFL tackle Max Lane, back in the day years ago.

Saw Shooting Star open for Greg Kinn Band at the Missouri State Fair in the '80s. Had an incredible set. Crowd was electric. Greg Kinn comes out and the crowd mocked them with Shooting Star chants to the beat of their song. Van and the boys were just off stage soaking it all in. After 3 or 4 songs Greg Kinn goes into Jeopardy where they were promptly booed off the stage. Had to hurt their ego, but everyone else loved it.

My mom took me to see Willie Nelson there in the '70s. By far the wildest crowd concert I've seen. All the Highway Patrol from Troop B in Macon had t-shirts made afterwards that said "I kicked ass at the Willie Nelson concert". Great times. I love you mom!

Shooting Star was a favorite band of mine when I was a pak (punk ass kid). When growing up in SWMO, Kansas legal drinking age was 18. Shooting Star used to play at the Tower in Pittsburg Kansas. Saw them several times and always a good show.

Scott Joplin moved to Sedalia, Missouri in 1894 and earned a living as a piano teacher. There he taught future ragtime composers Arthur Marshall, Scott Hayden and Brun Campbell. He began publishing music in 1895 and publication of his "Maple Leaf Rag" in 1899 brought him fame. This piece had a profound influence on writers of ragtime. It also brought Joplin a steady income for life, though he did not reach this level of success again and frequently had financial problems.

In 1901, Joplin moved to St. Louis, where he continued to compose and publish and regularly performed in the community. The score to his first opera, A Guest of Honor, was confiscated in 1903 with his belongings for non-payment of bills, and is now considered lost.[3]

The Urge and Gravity Kills were big influences on my youth. Story of the Year, all STL bands.

Bob Kuban from St. Louis. His band The Inman had a big hit in the late 60s called "The Cheater." He would play a News Years Eve Dance at Monsignor Conley Gym in Monroe City. Also from there was Helen Coenelius who had a hit country duo with Jim Ed Brown.
