Carthage is still polling at the top although everyone is talking about a Webb City and Jackson final. I suppose Carthage gets honorary dibs on the 1 spot as defending champs of this classification at least until someone beats them.

Or the fact that they actually beat Jackson in the championship game last year and return several kids off that team as well. Can't imagine them not being ranked ahead of them. Calling it honorary makes no sense. I could understand Webb being ranked #1 but not Jackson. It would help if Jackson played somebody with a pulse during the regular season.

One of the two voters who MAY have voted them #1 is from Poplar Bluff (3-1) and likely watched Jackson pummel the Mules61-18 in game 3. Jackson took on Ft. Zumwalt West in game one, a Class 6 semi-finalist last year and hardly pulseless. That game only happened because both of their opponents cancelled and Jackson doesn't have much selection, as you already know.

Stay tuned this week, though; Jackson is playing Class 6, #8, Fox Warriors in Fox's house. After that, they bring in Class 5, #9, Farmington. Both of them are currently undefeated, so would you allow for those teams to qualify as having a pulse?

As for returners, the Indians have almost their entire starting offense back along with 6 starters on defense. If they make it to the final again it should be another classic game, but don't underestimate this team.

How unfortunate that Carthage dodged Webb City and their D1 RB, Weathers. How fortunate they get to meet in Districts, though.

I think it's very possible that Nixa beats Carthage. Back a few years ago when Nixa was good there were some fantastic games between these two programs.

It will be a big test for both these programs, looking forward to seeing how it plays out.

In no way am I saying that Jackson isn't a good football team, there is just no way to justify them being ranked #1 was the point of my post. And yes my guess is that Jackson will be seeing the winner of Carthage and Webb City in the state championship game.

Logically it makes sense to have them at 1. Just stating that everyone's opinion and talk of Jackson v WC implies that Webb City is actually believed to be in the 1 spot. I have heard virtually no one talking about a repeat Carthage/Jackson game.

I agree they've played light competition and should not expect to be ranked #1 by panelists who have never seen them play in person or on video.

On a cautionary note: if or when you watch Jackson, pay closer attention to the defense than the offense. Just sayin'.

Okay you bozo!! Listen here. We Doc Guys stick, TOGETHER!!! Are some Doc Guys missing? Sure. Were in a global pandemic and I fear the worst. But us remaining Doc Guys, are stronger than ever!!

Carthage has 4 D1 recruits. I don't think they're intimidated by Weathers just because he's D1.

Zumwalt West is bad this year and Farmington and Fox are nowhere close to Webb and Nixa

Jackson whomped everyone last year and finally hit a SWMO team and scored 14 on offense.

Carthage has only played one team with a winning record and almost got tripped up by a team with only one win. That game with CJ should make Tiger fans nervous.

I don’t think Fox and Farmington are better than Webb or Nixa, but they might be better than anyone left on Carthage’s regular season schedule other than Nixa.

The CJ game doesn't make me nervous as a Tiger fan - it's one game in a weird year. My general observations from watching the Tigers several times now is that they may lack some of the spark of the teams in previous few years but could probably hold their own against most anyone. The victory margins aren't as large this year. They aren't getting as many consistent big plays like before - a LOT more runs for just 1 or 2 yards. Maybe the rest of the COC except Neosho has upped their game? That's certainly possible.

IF they can get past Webb City in districts they are a team I wouldn't want to have as an opponent. Starting to remember why it sucks so much to be grouped in with the cardinals right off the bat. You can be the second best team in the state but will be quickly forgotten and given little respect, not even participating in the actual state playoffs.

Yeah, that alignment sucks, but when you factor in their vicinity to each other you have to know it was unavoidable. BTW, ANY game after the last regular season game is the “actual state playoffs.”

The district playoffs start after the last regular season game and the state playoffs start once the district champions are determined. But the point I want to make is that Carl Junction is a lot better than their record indicates. They have played some stiff competition and I think they will do well in the post season.

You can lose your final regular season game and keep playing. But if you lose the next game you go home. That’s the definition of a playoff game, whether in districts or otherwise, you’re in the state playoffs. There’s no difference.

CJ needs to keep working hard because I like their chances of beating West Plains and moving on to face Helias. Good luck with that. The fact that they’ve played some very tough C5 opponents by then will help, but keep working!

Do we have the state playoff brackets?

I was on the MSHSAA site the other day and they’re still nothing up. I hate how they’re not releasing them until regular season is over. Because in the past they’ve switched things all around and it’s alway just a little odd that they want to wait until the regular season is over to show the playoff formats. Or to “decide” the playoff format.

District brackets can't be formed until we know what the district points are. You can follow the district point seedings throughout the year by clicking on the District Tournament Brackets link on the MSHSAA site. The football manual will describe the State Championship Bracket alignments for each year on pages 22-25.

I wasn’t referring to the district brackets. I was referring to the playoff brackets. In the past they’ve had blank ones up on the site showing what district plays who.
