Maryville/Monett for all the marbles

Congratulations to the Monett Cubs! Way to go avoiding the turbo clock and winning a second state championship for the Big 8 conference this year.

Well on some thread I predicted Maryville by 2 touchdowns...and that was an incorrect prediction. Congrats to Monett on winning the title!

Well anybody could beat "some" class 5/6 teams. Bad teams are bad regardless of class, Oak Park was a bad class 5 school, probably finishes .500 in a normal class 3 schedule... There isn't many bad class 6 schools in KC, if any...
This year Class 6 was unreal up here. I do think, however, they all beat each other up and that paved the way for none of them to win it all...............but again congrats to Kirkwood who is now in elite company winning just a few years after moving up in class.

It is this kind of year. Just when you think you "know" these teams...............

Sloppy game for both sides. Monett was more physical and won the game.

I was way off. guessed 42-21. Hope for a rematch next year for both great programs.

Monett will probably struggle next year! We lose a lot to graduation

Those two were just stirring the pot. Neither are from Maryville.
Nothing at all bad to say about Marville players, coaches, or fans; all who were present today conducted themselves with class as far as I could tell(unlike Trinity catholic fans, players, and coaches...)

Maryville fans have a program they can be proud of. After that first drive of the game, I thought for sure Monett was in for a long afternoon; Maryville ran their wing-t to perfection that first drive, only to shoot themselves in the foot in the end...

...but then after that drive, Maryville all but abandoned the the trap/sweep/boot series for some reason (even though it was killing Monett); wonder if coach got impatient and became greedy for the big play (that happens sometimes to teams that are used to lopsided scores...)

Feel legit bad for that Maryville longsnapper :(

It would've been so hard to think about this while the football is bouncing towards his own end zone; if the punter could've somehow gathered his wits and been able to take a safety, Maryville still leads 18-16 with a free kick upcoming. Who knows what might have happened afterwards.

I know that some Maryville broadcasters didn't do any homework.
On the radio, they kept saying Monett was running "gimmicks" and "trick plays" to fool Maryville -- guys that is the Cubs offense.
All they did was look at Branch's 2.042 yards and say "The Cubs ride his legs."
On defense, the couldn't understand why Monett would stay in a passing three-man front on obvious running downs.
Even Coach Uhl said that he was surprised that Meyer didn't have a spy on him and that if you watched film you'd know that the Cubs designed QB runs for him.
To be honest, Maryville has a great team, but they overlooked the Cubs a bit and Monett did what they have done all season long -- grind, battle and found a way to win.
The first person to greet Coach Uhl outside of the stadium was Lamar's Scott Bailey.

Just what homework should the Maryville broadcasters do? I'm sure they interviewed the coaches of Maryville and Monett, but in 30 years of interviewing hundreds of coaches, I personally have yet to have a coach give me anything substantial, much less what the coach plans to do offensively or defensively. Calling a football game is one of a long, long list of things they do as radio employees. Time usually does not permit watching a season's worth of plays on HUDL, provided their home town coach gives them access. I gotta stick up for my radio brothers.

the radio announcers don't watch film, and they have never seen monett play till yesterday, both teams played well, I think the officials missed a couple of calls but I'm not out there so my eyes might be wrong, I don't think anybody underestimated anyone, I never predict scores because when you work with kids you never know what is going to happen, kchi knows that in 1996 when Maryville played Chilli Maryville lost 7-6, the holder thought he heard the st coach say the call to go for two, he runs the two point play and we miss and lose, that same year Maryville went to state and lost in the dome to MICD, so maybe it was fate to get second like the team did 20 yrs earlier, it was a good game and leave it at that, oh and I believe the Maryville HC was a sophomore or a junior that year

A quick scan of newspapers, hudl, max preps would show what you needed to know.
I don't ask much from the radio guys, but name pronunciation of the opposing players would have been nice.

these guys don't have time for that, there going to know their own guys because they have been seeing them play every week, if you wanted to listen to them pronounce the monett guys name right then you should have listened to the monett station

I mean that kind of makes since. Why do we even need to look up anything about the other team. It's not like anyone from home cares. Take pride in the craft or get off the air.

feces, your funny, I didn't listen to the radio broadcast, but I'm also guessing since NW was having a home playoff game i'm sure the regular sports announcer was covering that game and they may have had a back up in, which is probably what happened

This advice should also be given to Stadium announcers. Every road game for years, I go to the stadium announcer and go over our roster names with them one by one. after that, 75% of them still mangle the names....

Then you have never been to Monett, our announcer goes out of the way to make sure and get the correct annunciation of players names and coaches, so do our radio guys.

Now, I don't agree with everything that has been suggested and I realize that not everyone prepares as much as I do for a game, but to say a radio guy does not have time to check how names are pronounced is taking it way too easy.. that is just being lazy, and yes I have seen that from some of my colleagues on occasion. Now, I don't know if that was the case here or not.

like I said.. 75%. Monett then must fall in that 25% that do things right. And no, I have never been to Monett, since Chillicothe has never played them. :)

Did anyone else have an issue with the mshsaa broadcast announcers? He called lamars running back by a sophomore on the kickoff teams name all day even when the guys sitting next to him corrected him. When he went out with injury the backup then assumed the sophomores name. Lol it was ridiculous. When the sophomore was actually on the field and made a good tackle on a kickoff he didn't get his name mentioned at all, kind of ironic. I can see it happening once or twice, but to just call every running back on the left side by the same jv players name,,,, pretty bad announcing. Same guy who called the Lamar game last year and he's a goob

Jesus gentlemen. How do I say this?

Mistakes happen. Life goes on. Get over it. It isn't that important. Sorry you got your panties in a bunch. It's just a game. You couldn't have done better. Grow up. Move on. That’s life. $hit happens.

Do you need more or are you going to continue whining?

It is important for the kids and their families. Some have family watching from across the country. It's their job! if I made the same mistakes over and over again year in and year out pretty sure I'd be fired. Wouldn't you?

Why are your panties in a bunch that people are paying for a product and want it to be quality?

It boils down to this: The kids are giving their best effort and so should the broadcasters.

I try to still the pot as much as anyone on the board, but at the end of the day, the gentlemen who broadcast the game for the state audience should be PROFESSIONALS.

It is a state title, not some beer league game.

Did they not get paid to do a job? Where else do you get paid to do a job and people don't care what kind of job you do? I mean if you are getting paid to do a job should your employer not expect you to get things right or should they expect you to just put in a half @$$ effort. Yes mistakes happen that is not an issue, it is doing everything you can to try an prepare to be a professional on the air and represent your employer the community and team with professionalism.
