Major news out of WC

Who takes over? Scott Bailey has to be in the discussion, no? Also where in Kansas or Arkansas does JR land?

Rod is retiring. He is a family man. Mcfarland will probably take the helm. Wonder if Weimers leaves and ipens the d coord position. Think Bailey is fine just handling dline.

His son in law has been an assistant for a while (a Carthage guy)..wondered if he was being groomed to take over. Maybe not.

Been watching this board for about an hour waiting for someone to post the news, I didn't really want to be the one to start it. Heard from a (pretty distraught) friend who has a kid on the team that he just told them a little while ago.

A couple years ago I was told by someone pretty close to the situation that McF was absolutely "the guy". I asked them about that the other day and they walked it back as if maybe things had changed. Personally I think the guy from Lamar is more likely, perhaps he's been in training mode the last couple years observing. I kind of feel like they have to open it up to outside hires at least for consideration but doing so can be risky because Webb really needs someone that knows Webb football, not a guy who knows football and wants to come in and use Webb's talent and culture to run "his" system.

Bosko should be the next head coach.

They have hot moms
Bosko wants to know if it is PA mom hot or Kearney mom hot?
PT Showclub hot
WHOA HOOO!!! Bosko likey!! You all had me at hot moms!!! Sadly, I am NOT a head coach. But if the new Webb City coach wants to take the Webb City Booster Club to the next level, I'd consider coming out of retirement. Especially if hot moms are in town!

That’s Derryberry right?
The former Carthage stud QB?
Yes and I believe he was the QB for the team that got Carthage's first recent win over WC back in 07. Married JRod's daughter and then got an assistant post at Webb City. I've heard he's very well liked by the kids there!

It will be interesting to see how things unfold. I guess there was a lot of drama around a different coach hiring/promotion situation recently so some are speculating the district will consider outside hires more than they might have just a few years ago.

Another thing I could see is appointing McF as an "interim" coach for a season and depending on how he does, how the system operates, how kids respond and develop through the season - they may opt to "hire" him but if the powers that be aren't sold they keep looking. Lower risk that hiring outside or hiring internally then being disasspointed and having to fire a well liked WC native.

This is one of those hires the district can't afford to screw up. Between increased competition in the COC and a more difficult classification, throw in a wrong coach hire and a few consecutive years that don't get past the quarter or semis, infighting among the youth coaches that all have ideas on who and how to fix it and at that point it may not be possible to bet back to where they were. It may not be possible regardless unless they move back to C4. Who knows. I expect it will go smoothly but if it doesn't it could get nasty fast. There are a lot of people with a lot of expectations and a lot invested into WC football. I know one family that was pretty sour this year because they had moved from Carthage and here they were getting beat by Carthage then watching Carthage play 3 more weeks after their kids turned in their gear. And now Roderique is retiring. Repeated losses to Joplin who Carthage keeps beating hasn't helped either.

There is a big difference between being a frequent semi finalist and being a frequent champion. Families don't move to be on a team that has a good shot to be a quarter or semi finalist but they absolutely move if the program has a history that says your kid is more likely than not to win at least one championship. Webb City is extraordinary in being able to offer that.

Odds are it isn't possible to hire a coach who will be as good. Coaches exist who are as good or better but they promote to college at the first opportunity. Having someone with this much success and willing to stay this long is one of a kind. Bailey would have the best chance to keep it going. McFarland didn't even win at Seneca as much as the current guy is.

The new volleyball coaches must of been hit with the ugly stick.

I feel no sympathy for a family that moved to WC instead of staying in their hometown and trying to make your hometown a winner.
Those are the same exact families that ruin a culture, thinking they are entitled to win a championship just because the go somewhere.
