Has anyone heard anything about...
1) Who the next 'Hounds coach might be? I'm guessing it won't be Coach Barr, but who is possibly up for it? Is Jay Spoonhour a possibility, since his dad coached there?
2) Is there any news on what any of MACC recruits are going to do?
Thanks for any info.

For an answer to part of your question refer to BiggDog's post under Pat Smith. It tells the story about our returning sophmores. All of them returning is a testimony to their commitment to MACC.

I read about the freshmen. If that holds, that is great news for you guys. What I was mainly wondering about is 1) your recruits and 2) who is possible as the next coach. Is there any buzz about Jay Spoonhour or Kenny Seifert? Either one would be good -- Spoonhour won a national title his last time at the juco level, while Seifert won a region title at his last juco stop (Moberly in 2001, of course).

It should be interesting to see what happens with all the changes in the region!

Bluff, I am hoping that the ones that have signed will see the benefit of staying with last years region champs. We still have recruits coming in for workouts. As far as a coach goes, I doubt you would see Kenny S leaving the high school. I think he really likes it there. As far as Jr. Spoon, who knows. We had some good candidates 3 years ago and I feel certain we will again.

BTW, I read an earlier post about coaches driving the bus. I think I have it on pretty good authority that it is their choice.

I spoke to someone in pretty good position to know, in Moberly, this afternoon and he told me that Kenny Seifert will be letting his feelings be known shortly.
I for one would love to see him pick up where he left off! The search for the best replacement for Smith need be no further away than right in Moberly's back door!
We can only hope.
God speed, Coach Pat! You provided Hound fans with some memorable games!
Now go fire up Bemidji State! Oh! And take some woolens with you!

Looks like the Hounds will be in good shape next season.

I am sure the Hounds and West Plains will get some great candidates for the Coaching position. If the Hounds keep their Frosh together and get a couple of more recruits the new coach will be in a great postion.

With the demise and need to rebuild from ground zero for the Grizzlies and the announcement about Coach Smith, TRCC and MAC were probably about ready to dance in the streets thinking that there were two less challengers for the bid to the tourney. But wait just a moment..... with the freshman staying put and Pat Smith staying to help find his successor, Moberly should remain in the hunt and be a serious contender again next year. Following Coach Hayes' (?) tenure, Moberly has done a superb job hiring quality coaches and see no reason to feel that they won't do again this time.

As for WP, even a good coach will probably have to have some time to get the program back up to a competitive level in the Region and on a national level again. By the way, didn't Spoonhour get hired on at Wabash Valley and had to take over the program when the head man left right before the season started? Can anyone fill me in?

I think that Moberly should take a hard look at Olney coach Jim glash. He's a very good coach, a good person, he relates very well to his players and that will be very important considering he's not rebuilding but taking on players he'll have to "win" over. He would fit in great in the community. Just my two cents.

Don't know if he is interested but he has done a fine job at Olney. How about that Juco Coach at Colby, KS who was a finalist the last time for the Hound job and a finalist for the Bemidji job. Poor guy must be having nightmares about Pat Smith. He sounds like a fine coach.

Joe isn't available, he took an assistant job at D-1 Flordia Internationl last Wednesday. He actually will probably be running the team, the head coach is a first time D-1 coach and is known for his recruiting.

Just shows again what a class act Pat is in every way, talking to the freshmen and telling them what he did and urging them to stay. His successor is going to have a lot of pressure. I thank Pat for all the thrills his teams gave us while he was in Moberly. I don't think I've ever seen such hustle and chemistry on Hound teams in a long time as his first and last teams. He certainly added mightily to the Greyhound tradition. Best of luck at BSU. Looking forward to watching him on tv in the D 2 Final Four soon.
