Doesn't really matter where he ranks the last 20 years, just whether his addition is an upgrade worth what it would cost to get him. Personally, I'd pass.Let's be truthful. If you look at the cardinals starting lineups over the past 20 years, at least half the time Dexter Fowler would have been the Cards 4th outfielder.
I hope you guys pass and the Cubs bring him backDoesn't really matter where he ranks the last 20 years, just whether his addition is an upgrade worth what it would cost to get him. Personally, I'd pass.
Or you could've been just evaluating Fowler as a player, and comparing him to the last 20 yrs of Birds outfields. And if this is the case, I can't argue.
I'd be completely comfy with running him out there again, if Cespedes (or someone like him) was next to him in LF. Fowler really is the perfect compliment for the Cubs with the combo of Bryant/Zobrist/Almora/Szczur/Heyward/Soler/Schwarber to cover the OF and one of 2B or 3B.I hope you guys pass and the Cubs bring him back
And the Cards run Randy G out there again. That thought gives me a warm, fuzzy feeling inside.

I miss the MV3 days. So I feel ya. Kinda. As boring as it sounds, I wish that overpay for a really good player was Price last year.Just one time I want the brass to throw caution to the wind and overpay for a really good player.
Agreed. They need to set the market instead of just telling the fans they got money, but won't go against their metrics. Not sure that applies to this years FA market, but if they want to improve their team and free agency isn't the answer then they are going to have to get rid of some of their prized minor league players.Just one time I want the brass to throw caution to the wind and overpay for a really good player.
I'm all for spending some cash..this market is just garbage.Agreed. They need to set the market instead of just telling the fans they got money, but won't go against their metrics. Next year will be a banner crop of FAs but can the Cards afford to do nothing and then not go big next year because of their metrics I'm.thinking big trade this year.I'm all for spending some cash..this market is just garbage.
Everyone knows they won't go after Cespedes though. I really think they will let Pham start in LF.I'd be completely comfy with running him out there again, if Cespedes (or someone like him) was next to him in LF. But yes , Fowler does fit the Cubs well. Which is why I'm fine with giving him 4 years. Having Heywards glove in RF really helped Fowler in CF. Plus him not having to roam Houston or Colorado's CF helps too.
I mean....I get it.If the Cards sign Fowler and have to give the Cubs a draft pick, STL will be on pins and needles the next decade praying that that pick isn't a stud. Fowler will be long gone.
It's not worth the stress.
I honestly think the Cubs giving Fowler a QO would be enough to keep me from signing him. Not for the reasons that Ducky said, but just b/c I don't think the fit with Fowler mixed with the deal is worth giving up a pick for.I mean....I get it.
But if that's literally going to hold back a front office, they need to grow a pair. The Cubs just have the Cardinals 2 draft picks to help win a WS. We don't care if you draft the next Trout with either of those
