Lamar Thoughts

Trinity in 16, beat Lutheran North a couple times. 7-6 in the rain in 17, that was a fun game. Beat Maplewood Richmond in 11 to get to their first state game. Beat Valle a couple times but that was in the regular season. Those are the teams I can think of the top of my head. I think they’ve played mostly public schools through their runs!

Congrats on a well earned victory.
Of the 8 is this the hardest earned?
Is Beshore the youngest head coach to win a title?
How many coaches have won a title as a player and coach?
How many private schools have they beaten thru the years?

2nd. The year we played LN in the Semi’s was the hardest earned. SPX was one heck of a team. I was very impressed.

He is one of the youngest. I couldn’t tell ya if he is for sure.

2 in the state game I’m pretty sure.

Where does this put Lamar in terms of all-time state champions? I can’t seem to find the total anywhere. I know Webb’s got the most but this has got to put Lamar up there.

im not trying to rain on parades, but this had to be one of the easiest right?... class 2 as a whole was weaker than most years.

Lamar’s defense was awesome to watch. Their stopping the run and putting pressure on Moss was impressive. Shouldn’t the pass from Moss to running back have been called a lateral and a fumble. Refs called incomplete pass. #16 for Lamar is a tough running back or qb, whichever you want to call him. How many carries did he have?

It was most definitely a fumble. One of the worst calls that I've seen this year. I would have been thrown out of the game if I was a Lamar coach.

Was Class 2 down compared to the last few years (which were all time highs for the class mind you)? Possibly. Was this the best Lamar team in school history? No, probably not. But jeez folks, Lamar beat every C2 team that was put in front of them and Pius was undefeated themselves. I can say with very little doubt in my mind that those 2 teams are the 2 best coached teams in C2 this year. At some point talking about how down the class was gets repetitive and pointless. Every class ebbs and flows, but every year they all play by the same rules: you gotta beat whoever they put in front of you and if you can do that, then that is as good as it gets.

Plus a few private schools was moved up where they should be.

I think this has to be a particularly satisfying title for Lamar for several reasons. It reminds me of Webb City’s championship in 92 after starting 1-2.

1. Lamar won first title under new coaching staff. Obviously Bailey built the program but this is proof that the program is on solid footing.

2. After 4-5 weeks Lamar was not looking at all like a team that would make a title run. That attests to good coaching and improvement.

3. I’m not saying Lamar fans are that surprised that they won a title but this isn’t like the middle of the Lamar 7-peat when a couple of those teams maybe only got tested once in the playoffs. This one was a grind. At the end of the day this trophy counts the same as a turbo clock in the dome.

Well done Lamar.

I’ve seen this a couple of times lately, and I really hope we aren’t trying to de-value or downplay the accomplishment that all these kids worked so hard for...
A state title is a state title. Nobody is taking that away from them. That doesn't mean that certain years aren't an easier classification or bracket from other years. Sorry if it's not what you want to hear. You're free to disagree.

Easy there Cards. That Coach Nickerson you're talking to there. A Doc Guy legend.
Perhaps he should quit making absolutely mind numbing statements like Class 2 was 'down' before 2011 when one of the best Class 2 teams of all-time actually played the year before.

We all get it. Lamar has a great (all-time great mind you) program. There were a couple all-time great teams in this run. 2010 Penney and 2003 Centralia (among several other teams throughout history) were as or more dominant in their era.

IF he was alluding to the St. Louis 'superteam' phenomenon, there was Maplewood. It really was an ignorant statement. Sorry I hurt some feelings.

Cards I think the 2009 Hamilton team was better overall than 2010. We played them b

LMFAO. Jesus Christ on a popsicle. One of the most impressive performances regardless of class was 2010. There's another team from 2003 that would also like a word.
WHOA!!!! Cards, you do realize that Coach Nickerson coached at the college AND NFL levels, right!? This dude KNOWS football.

I really thought Lamar's run was over but glad to see I was wrong!

To water down the competition

Playing small schools with rosters of recruited players isn’t fair. Moving them up should only equal, or hopefully equal competition for those teams. What’s watering down HS football in Mo is small towns not having jobs, and kids playing online games instead of putting on the football pads. It’s a growing trend across the country.

That was the Class 1 version. Calpreps has 2010 by a touchdown.

[2010] Penney (Hamilton, MO) 38, [2009] Penney (Hamilton, MO) 31

I just want to know how we can even try to compare football from different decades. We really don’t know how good teams would do, or if the competition was even that great in comparison to now. There’s really no gauge. Or argument to be made.
