Lamar Thoughts

I just want to know how we can even try to compare football from different decades. We really don’t know how good teams would do, or if the competition was even that great in comparison to now. There’s really no gauge. Or argument to be made.
The teams I've mentioned are in the Calpreps era (2002 and up), so there's some data to compare. They also have been mentioned on here and elsewhere as being dominant teams. I've also seen them play live. There's some gauge, and this is MoSports. There's ALWAYS an argument to be made.

Sports fans tend to want to discuss things like this.

Does anyone close to Lamar know why Bailey left? It was never really put out there as to why he left.

Perhaps he should quit making absolutely mind numbing statements like Class 2 was 'down' before 2011 when one of the best Class 2 teams of all-time actually played the year before.

We all get it. Lamar has a great (all-time great mind you) program. There were a couple all-time great teams in this run. 2010 Penney and 2003 Centralia (among several other teams throughout history) were as or more dominant in their era.

IF he was alluding to the St. Louis 'superteam' phenomenon, there was Maplewood. It really was an ignorant statement. Sorry I hurt some feelings.

Sorry - Class 2 wasn't down and isnt down but it wasnt like it was from 2011 - until 2019 and go ahead and add 2003 and 2010. Those years there were just unbelievable.

He damn sure don't know diddly poo about history.

In 2010, I actually scouted Penney against Carollton in the quarterfinals and in the Semi Finals against Macon. That was the same year that Lamar lost in the Semi Finals at Maplewood, then Penny went on to beat Maplewood in the dome. I remember Penny running the single wing offense and would have loved to seen a matchup between Lamar and Penny in the Dome.

Penny was not running the Single Wing offense.
Scouting report invalid.

Bombs? Like this one where he concedes my point?

Or is this one nuclear?

Lamar would have lost to Penney by a lot. If he had said Macon then I would have agreed that matchup would have been close. Stick to doing Doc Guy things that don't involve actual, you know, football talk.

If @CoachFox-ScreamingEagles was at the Macon game I ran into him. Saw the Lamar scouting twosome and said hello. He got to see an incredible game in a great atmosphere. Some of the hardest licks I've ever seen live. Their physicality won the day. Well that and the blown coverage in the 4th that sealed it when Macon had nothing left and totally sold out to try and stop the run.

LOL - I was away from the dynamic duo - they were under the pressbox around the 50, and I was in the end zone. I had been hunting before the game, still had my orange on and fit in perfectly with the macon crowd lol.

You must have stuck out in all that blue and gold. I've never seen a crowd like that one. 15 deep or more on that side. And loud. Oh, and who could forget the dog! Had to stop play to get him off the field!

Yes, a form of Wing T.
Quite a bit different than Single Wing, though, which Lamar ran a version of under Bailey.
Sorry for nitpicking, I know that wasn't your original point.
If memory serves, they formed up 3 backs abreast behind the QB in a true 'T' formation most of the time. Wishbone perhaps? Certainly not a Wing T like Macon ran.

No Problem - 10 years ago, after cards comment, I think I remember them running the dead T some. Enjoyed watching them play against Carrollton and Macon- great times. Did Macon go up to class 3 after that and Penney go back down to class 1 ?

Same offense Chillicothe ran for 85 years. Base was Dbl Tight T backfield. Would split out an end sometimes. Would break the T in various ways. If the need to pass came up, would spread it out and run a Pro formation. lol

Macon has always teetered on the Class 2/3 line. We stayed Class 2 at that time and lost to Blair Oaks the following year at their place in the quarters in another slugfest. Probably the largest football travel crowd we've ever brought. There was even a thread on here just about the crowd.

Not sure when Penney dropped back down, but they spent at least one more year in 2, because I'm still shocked at the Higginsville final score when the drubbed them in the playoffs to end their impressive win streak.

Haven't thought about 2010 Hamilton in a minute. Great team and very old school. I vividly remember watching that Hamilton team run the T against Maplewood with hip pads up to their armpits like it was 1993.

I never heard but am still curious. The only thing I heard was he was just ready to be done coaching - but then he took the JC job. There were also rumors that I'm sure were false that he was going to move to a smaller college job possibly with JRod, lol.

So no idea.

He always said that if there ever came a time where he couldn't motivate the kids to do what it took in order to succeed according to his perspective, he would consider it time to move on. That, apparently was the case when he decided to step away and would most likely be the reason he left JC.

Thanks for the response, I appreciate it. I've always respected Coach Bailey and Lamar. Glad to see Lamar continuing on their winning ways, and hoping Coach Bailey finds something that makes him happy.
