Ladue at Webb City - Who ya got?

Against Camdenton - w/ Henderson, WC ave. 5.0 yards per carry, without him 3.3. For the year they WC averages 8 yards a carry. "The veer is like Novocain - it will put you to sleep and then bam - a long run."

The backs that came in stepped up when it counted but WC offense is much more explosive with 7 and 9 in the backfield.

Sustaining drives will be difficult but if healthy either can take it to the house from anywhere on the field.

I think it was getting a little “chippy” out there and the refs were trying to not let it get out of hand and may have been just a little flag happy. They conferred, relied on multiple views/angles and in the end got it right. JMO.
You see that this time of year. I saw some chippy play with Carthage /Lebanon, WC game and Joplin though chippy might be an understatement for how CBC played. Saw it with battle last year. Bottom line is that you get this deep and you playing talented well coached and competitive teams that dont want to go home and some get that way.

Well........I just deleted what I originally started to say about CBC. Proud of the Eagles!! They maintained composure. Several fans went a bit overboard with some comments I thought but understood why they were ticked. Fans stayed to the end with the players in a great display of support.

Based on what little I've actually seen of both teams this year, I'm going with Webb. I'm basing that on the fact that Carthage is red hot and lost to Webb earlier in the season (going off track a bit, I think Carthage would beat Webb in a re-match if they played this week, but I digress). I watched the Ladue/West Plains game, and was mildly impressed with the Rams. Not enough to make me think they will leave SW Missouruh with a W.

Webb 28
Ladue 14

I actually think the Smithville/MICDS game will be the more competitive semi final in the C4 bracket.

I believe WC will keep it close even if RBs are not able to go. I believe they will win by 10 if they are healthy. I think Ladue will have problems scoring on WC. We typically stop the run very well and have done good with being opportunistic on intercepting passes.

Key for WC, scoring first...then being at home will help. Just my take, but Ladue doesn't look like the kind of team that can keep their composure under pressure.

neutral field
[2018] Webb City (MO) 28, [2018] Watkins [Ladue Horton] (St. Louis, MO) 22

Home field should add at least 7. Will someone please contact Ladue and tell them to forget about coming down? No need. This would definitely help our chances. Haha.

I'm not sure what to think about this game. The more I think the less I know. On saturday I kept thinking "if" WC gets out of this mess they won't get past Ladue.

But as others have said, playing at WC is probably an environment they have not experienced. How much will that matter, I don't really know. Probably not much honestly. Everything I have seen except history says Ladue.

WC has just been odd this year. They keep looking like a team that doesn't have it quite together - but they are undefeated and have played several really good teams at this point. So they clearly have not lost the magic even if they have looked uncharacteristic at times this year.

I'm thinking something like 14-7 Ladue but who knows.

I don't know how Ladue will do offensively and probably won't do much, but I really like their chances defensively with or without the running back injuries. I doubt Webb City has seen a team with the combination of athleticism/physicality that the Rams possess. They're strong and fly to the ball. If Ladue operates similarly with the pass/run ratio they employed against West Plains on offense then they'll put some drives together and with receivers like Chesson, Player, and Garland they have the ability to score anywhere on the field if there's a defensive breakdown. However, I don't expect WC to commit as many errors as they did against Camdenton. It'll be very important for who scores first in this game.

This one is very, very hard to read because it is at Webb. Were this game in STL would lean more Ladue. Having been to a number of semis rooting on the ole alma mater can tell you the Rams better come out smoking because the Cards always do in these huge games. Last week was the perfect storm and they survived. Never, ever like the next team's chances vs. a team like that especially one that is sooooo used to playing in the semis and beyond. As of today I call it a coin flip but would definitely take the UNDER..........

Great post Top! WC has to be healthy IMO to win this game!

Ladue 10, WC 7.

I'm excited for my first trip to WC this Saturday. As a Ladue fan, I'm envious of the "whole town supports the team"atmosphere. It was great to witness that at the state championship last year. It will be a great defensive battle.

I was trying to put together how WC barely beat Camdenton but West Plains beat Camdenton 41-7. Any explanation besides WC's running back injury issues against Camdenton?

WC running backs did not jump off sides a half dozen times or give up 27 points.

Well pretty much we played real crappy. I lost track of the penalties, didn’t look like a Webb team out there

Webb was probably close to double digits in offsides/false starts......

While we're on the topic of WC not playing like WC, what happened at Branson this year?

If Branson or Camdenton repeats happen then Ladue wins easily. If we play a clean, well executed game then it will be close regardless of running backs. The running backs give us a chance to break any play. #9 has 6.6 60 speed. One of the fastest players we have ever had.

From the St. Louis Post Dispatch: "The Rams have enjoyed a balanced offensive attack this season, but they struggled to gain traction with their ground game Saturday, as senior running back Andrew Hunt was bottled up and held to just 34 yards rushing. But the passing game came through when needed, as McIntosh completed 19 of 27 passes for 169 yards." Interesting: Beason: 10-17 for 124 - 45 yard difference - not much of a difference when you consider - Webb picks it's time to pass very carefully. Perez - 33 yrds, Beason - 34 yards, Alcazar - 33 yrds, Henderson - 136 (and came out with an injury in the 3rd quarter). No, Weathers at all, which I'm sure he'll be back. (He went out with a hamstring strain, in a game where the temperature was in the high teens. I pulled a hammy that night getting out of the truck.)

St. Louis is a glass house. One of their jewels gets shattered on the field at Webb, this Saturday.

Ya, I think WC picks up the win and advances. Also, Carthage beats Vianney. There's two StL schools that go home empty handed. There may be more. Time will tell.

To a first time observer of WC Football, the common opponent scores, poor discipline against the Lakers and generally less than stellar performance overall, one might reach the conclusion that the Cardinals will be over-matched by a talented Ladue team. However, after observing Coach Rod's motivational powers many times, the opposite may be true. That close call may be exactly what this team needed to bring them down to earth and inspire them to play like the chat pile gutter rats they are!

WC 28 to 21

Go Cards!!

They have usually came out very strong when underdogs (which they are this game) ..playing upper level teams like Rockhurst , Har-Ber , Aquinas , Bentonville etc they play with an extra chip on their shoulder ....I love that people doubt them ...that being said ....if they aren't healthy then they will struggle on offense but it's impossible to count them out bc they win even when they shouldn't

Go Cards!!

Same thing as what happened at Carthage and camdenton, it took all we had to win. Carthage beat themselves. This is not your average WC team. (Very good one but, the 30 year average team goes to state around 65% of the time) at least not that I can see. We do have 2-3 very good playmakers that have kept us moving forward. Take them out, we are in for a very difficult game, with ANYONE. Coach has his hands full this week and needs his playmakers to stay close, but he tends to find a way. But WC Boys can’t get 10-15 penalties from here out and expect to reach the average.

Webb cleans the mistakes up and wins 21-7

Hate to see a team that played as dirty as Camdenton did win, so I guess they got what they deserved. One player ejected and how was the kid that ripped #1’s helmet off not tossed also???

Camdenton played really dirty against Joplin in 2017. So it sounds like Coach shore most be ok with it.

For me to pick all I need to know is are the the skilled kids healthy, Weathers, Kabala? If they are im taking Webb if not Ladue

West Plains at Camdenton was early in the season and I suspect Camdenton could have improved. Camdenton ran a spread offense almost exclusively passing so perhaps it’s a situation where they weren’t firing on all cylinders early.

Webb City made two critical mistakes on defense resulting in 14 Camdenton points in the first half, a blown coverage on a screen pass and multiple missed tackles on a long TD pass. Camdenton called an aggressive run blitz defense and Webb’s line was very out of sorts the first half. They also had some fumbles, including an absolute brain fart handling a punt that was on the ground in traffic. Lots of penalties too. Just an uncharacteristic unfocused game by the Cardinals for big chunks of the game.

In the 2nd half Webb’s offensive line started clicking and they were able to run the ball well enough and connected on just enough passes to create three 2nd half TDs. Defensively, Webb wore down a bit and/or played a bit passive and saw their leads of 21-14 and 28-21 evaporate to a win aided by a missed PAT.

If Webb had played without the mistakes and more on par with what they are capable of, I suspect the score would have been something like 42-14 or 42-21. You have to give Camdenton credit because they came up with a game plan that forced Webb to play sharp and it nearly worked.

I do not believe Webb’s RB injuries were really to blame, they lose a bit in terms of the breakaway runs when they get down the depth chart but the back ups are still talented enough to make the offense work. Obviously that keeps the score lower and reduces the amount of drives you get in a game and that amplifies mistakes or a sluggish play. What hurt more than the injuries was the QBs poor day passing, he did manage to hit a few key passes in the 2nd half- one aided by one of the better catches I’ve seen in a HS game.

This coming game is one I’d not even bother trying to venture a guess on the outcome. I’ll be surprised if Webb plays back-to-back sloppy games but last year showed us Ladue is capable of frustrating the Cardinals offense. We’re probably looking at a game that’s going to come down to turnovers and finishing drives off. A lot of posters have been counting the home field as a big advantage for Webb but I don’t see it that way at all. Historically, Webb tends to do better in these closely contested games playing on the road. I suspect it has something to do with the immaturity of young men and getting caught up in all the distractions.

Anyway. Safe travel. Hopefully it’s as exciting of a game, only without all the penalties and mistakes. Would much rather see a great play decide this than a missed PAT.

Good game summary and fair breakdown of WC’s miscues.

Playing at home in the semis is worth 14 points. The SWMO teams have 4 home games. STL is likely to have a disappointing day. Webb wins again.
