Knox County and Brashear Advance to Class 1 District 11 Finals
Canton took an early 1-0 lead over Knox County, but the Lady Eagles scored a pair of runs in the middle innings to secure their spot in the District Championship Game. Brashear also led 1-0 in the early going only to see their lead slip away as Scotland County took a 3-1 lead. The difference between the games is that Brashear managed to battle back to score a pair of 7th inning 2-out runs to push the game into extra innings.
Brashear got on the scoreboard first with a run in the top of the 3rd. Katie Watson roped a leadoff line-drive past a diving 2nd baseman for a double. Allie Garrett reached base when the fielder held Watson at 2nd and threw late to 1st. Meredith Thomas layed down a sacrifice bunt moving the runners the 2nd and 3rd, then Shelby Salter hit a grounder through the infield to bring in Watson giving Brashear a 1-0 lead. Scotland County evened the score in the bottom of the 4th as Bethany Rader led off with a double and was brought home on a Loren Smith single. Scotland County added 2 more in the bottom of the 6th and looked poised to advance to the title game. With their backs to the wall, Brashear went to work in the top of the 7th. With 2 outs, Katie Watson singled, Allie Garrett then reached, Meredith Thomas walked and the bases were loaded. Ashley Moncrief came to the plate and quickly found herself with 2 strikes. After fouling off several pitches, Moncrief delivered with a line drive up the middle bringing in a pair of runs to tie the game. Scotland County went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 7th. Cierra Hines led off the top of the 8th with a double, Kristen Love singled her in, then Alexa Acton brought Love home to give Brashear a 5-3 lead. Hines retired Scotland County in order in the bottom of the 8th to give Brashear the 5-3 win. Ashley Moncrief, Cierra Hines, Kristen Love, Katie Watson, and Allie Garrett had hits for Brashear. Megan Creek, Bethany Rader, Loren Smith, and Hailey Dial had hits for Scotland County. Cierra Hines picked up the win for Brashear striking out 16. Bethany Rader took the loss for Scotland County with Megan Creek pitching in relief.
