Carl Junction, winners of 7 straight since a season opening two touchdown loss at Webb City. Have outscored their last 7 opponents by a score of 38.7 to 8.4. Six of those seven wins were against Class 5 schools.
CJ, located a few miles west of Webb City, has been unable to get past their neighbors in district play anytime the two have been placed in the same class. But that next door challenge has made the Bulldogs step it up to their highest quality of football in its history, motivated by the success of the Webbies but realizing they are getting closer to that level, at least for a particular season.
Many Webb City posters here are confident their team will knock off CJ again in a few weeks, but few would be cocky about it. Most know the Bulldogs are good enough to give the Cards a challenge should the district final come down to these two, and the smartest know that something like a small turnover difference could be enough to doom Webb for a night, because CJ is darn good.
But I'm guessing you knew most of that already.
