Incumbent Senator Pat Roberts had a lot of trouble in his primary but won. He was leading in the polls by 8 to 10 points in a 3 way race with a democrat and an independent. He had 32% of the vote while the independent had 25% and the democrat had 23%. Today at the last minute before the deadline to drop out and keep your name off the ballot, the democrat terminated his candidacy leaving Roberts against the independent. In polls taken after that happened the independent had a about a 10 point lead with over 20% undecided. Republicans claim Harry Reid was behind this move but a I saw woman on TV tonight that says Claire McCaskill is the one that stressed to the democratic party that this race could most likely be won by the independent and she is the is the one who convinced the democrat to drop out in an effort to keep republicans from taking control of the Senate.

Another twist in the Kansas Senate race today. Republican Secretary of State in Kansas, who has endorsed Roberts, will not allow the democrat in the race to drop out. He says his letter was not properly written to allow him to drop out. The dem showed his letter to the people who work for the Secretary and they told him it was fine and would be sufficient but their boss says no. The dem is appealing. Now that the republican party has realized they may have a challenge in Kansas they have taken over the Roberts campaign and will pour all the resources they can into a race they once thought was an easy win.
