Anyone care to take a stab at why Grichuk, Piscotty, and Garcia continually get starts and Martinez sits? He get caught doing the dirty with MM's wife? Wipeout slider pitcher on the mound and Grichuk is the PH'er? Only answer...Matheneging!

He literally missed that first slider by 18 inches.

That's kind of a regularity. Hell, I was shocked he didn't swing at the 0-2 slider that was in the LH batters box.

I honestly don't know why Martinez isn't playing. Dude does nothing but rake so far. When Marp was out he could've played 1B. Instead they slid Gyorko over and played Garcia at 3B. Now that Gyorko's out, could slide Marp to 3B and play Martinez at 1B. All of that is under the assumption that Piscotty and Grichuk get the nod ahead of him in the OF, which is more baffling than the above. Why in the hell wouldn't you put one of your best hitters (currently) in the lineup daily?

Just because I can't let this go...AB's since July 1st.
Grichuk--147
Voit--82
Piscotty--74
Garcia--72
Martinez--71

Effing Grichuk, Piscotty, and Voit have more ABs than Martinez the last two months!!! It's nuts. Garcia you can almost make a case for because of the ability to play three IF positions and he has hit for a high average the last two months. Granted, he K's a ton and offers virtually zero extra base hits or speed.

We were there yesterday. Piscotty has less chance to hit a ball than you and I would. Seems like a good dude but he's useless right now. He needs to just take the rest of the year off and try to get better for next year.

They're going to put Marp at 3B and let Voit play 1B some while Gyorko is out.

I'd like to see more JMart too. But they have it in their head who they want to be the guys. He obviously isn't one of them. It took near MVP play for Pham to finally stick.

Am I the only one that notices the guys that aren't the guys are a different shade than the guys they want to be the guys???

I hadn't paid any attention to that. I suppose you could be right. But they did just give a big deal to Fowler. And they offered a lot to Heyward. And they offered quite a bit to David Price too. So I'm not sure there's anything there.

Wasn't aware the guys making the lineup offered the contracts. MM has "his" guys. Can't recall one of those "guys" that isn't a cauc.

Signed Carlos long-term, too. And re-signed Molina.

Molina seems like one of his guys. But honestly, I'm not in the clubhouse and haven't talked to anyone who is so I can't really say what goes into any of the decisions nor accuse anyone of anything like that. I know a guy who does some reporting tho. Next time I see him I'll find out what kind of feel he gets from being around them some.

Can't imagine Molina is one of the guys given the recent Twitter/IG spat. Molina is a Oquendo guy through and through. Always has been. MM would be dumber than dumb to oppose this guy though.

My tone might be accusatory. But it's really more just inquisitive. It makes absolutely no sense in the world. And if Pham's numbers were like Martinez', he'd be playing about the same amount. Even though those numbers are light years ahead of Grichuk and Piscotty...and Garcia for that matter.

It's mid numbing trying to figure this team out and the decisions made from the top on down. One thing I know is that they are not much fun to watch anymore. Still I tune in every game so I guess I fit MO's definition of insane. somebody help me, I gotta get out of here.:confused::confused::mad::mad::mad:

You are not. The question is raised throughout the baseball blog world from time to time.

Actually I think the African American community has avoided baseball. I believe that baseball has tried to address this situation without much success.

Oh, of course their numbers are thin. It is an expensive sport that gets more expensive by the year. You need the talent(first and foremost) and the ability to see the$$$$$ down the road at the expense of right now.

However, any time a discussion about MM and his locker room comes up.....the topic of his boys always comes up. And it always revolves around the white, Christian players. Is that intentional? Who knows....

In 2017, the real question for most teams would be are they playing their Latin guys, not their black guys

I was speaking more to non-white, rather than a specific minority.

Right now, if you don't have 5 or 6 Latin Shortstops..... you're doing something wrong

The redbirds are begging David Eckstein to make a comeback. And then Rex Hudler will be added to the bench with Aaron Miles waiting in the wings. The Cardinals play to their racist fan base bros.

Errorin Miles....

The greatest player to wear a Cubs and Cardinal uniform

Honestly starting to buy this a bit. I'm just baffled at how those four guys have gotten more ABs than Martinez. Could make a fairly easy argument he's been one of the teams best hitters, you know, when he's not picking splinters.

Two words. Joe McEwing.

At least McEwing put up good numbers in his year. And truthfully, the other guys probably earned their time. I mean, as bad as I hated Miles, it's not like he was getting terribly outplayed by another Bird. That's what's happening here. And it's mind-boggling.

Its not that those guys didnt earn anything its that the BFIB love to performance ratio was major league overboard. Just like the Patience/Performance ratio is with Grichuk. However, if Pham has one bad month he will be sent packing.

Mr. Martinez with a great game today! With that being said...... he won't play for a week or so! Hope I am wrong! Weaver has been fantastic! Young fella has potential to be a solid 2 and possible ace! Consistency goes a long way and he doesn't throw 98 and still is successful....we have a few talented arms that could use a practice on learning consistency. Weaver has a short resume so far but I like what I see for the future with him.

I love the youth movement as long as it doesn't keep them from getting a big time bat.
1. Stanton
2. Donaldson
3. Martinez

Who Martinez?

I'm nervous it is a year too late on Donaldson given the age, contract, injury, and rise in K rate. Trade price should be down to account for that though. And he has had bad luck on balls in play.

Manny Machado playing short with Dejong at 3rd sounds better to me than Dejong at short with Donaldson at 3rd. Machado in a Redbird Uni would make me a happy camper. If he plays short well defensively like he does third and hits like he did 2 years ago.... Won't happen but that would be sweet to have him come next year.
