Why not Coach Rod at Mo State? They have tried everything else. At least he would create some excitement in SWMO with him at the helm. Also think about his connections throughout the state and NW Arkansas for recruiting. I say it's time to think outside the box.

And don't want to hear you Webbies whining. He has nothing else to prove there and you all will still be alright without him.

The man has not one ounce of ego in his soul. He has nothing to prove to anyone.

If they wanted to actually have a successful football program it would be one thing. The administration down there could care less

6 years from full mo retirement. Not going to leave for a dang school where those years wont count towards it. Go back to smoking that crack chicken.

Missouri State might be the only D1 program in the country that could hire a local high school coach and no one would notice.

Everybody would just say, yep sounds about right. The only surprise to that kind of move would be if they didn't hire a a half dozen junior high coaches to assist.

Well grabbing a coordinator from a power 5 school worked out so well for them last time.

I believe he is kin to Mort Johnson.

MO State could buy him out of a couple years and it could work out. (I thought Pitt State might do it but it didn't happen) I would love to see him go there. I think he would win there. Will it ever happen, highly doubtful.

Hopefully they can find someone to win there...been BAD lately.

Nope, hurts the accumulation of the retirement pension. Ain't gonna happen. Thought he was already past full retirement time.

I believe they are D-1AA

Ya that is DI football genius, just a different sub level. Go watch NDSU play a playoff game and tell me thats not Division I football.
Genius, look at the differences in 1-A and 1-AA. Biggest being in 1-A that you are either on scholarship or your a walk on. 1-AA most kids are on a partial scholarship because schools are placed on a budget to where as 1-A schools have unlimited budgets for recruiting. Scheduling and facilities greatly different. Last. Only about 10% of the NFL is from 1-AA teams I am guessing.

Is it me or or does it seem to be completely absurd for a College level program like MSU or Pitt State to consider hiring a Class 2 or Class 4 high school football coach to replace an outgoing College level coach? I've seen plenty of people making those comments and, without taking away from their success and/or reputation, it just doesn't seem like a jump that is based on any reality, whatsoever... Those who would make that kind of decision at a Missouri State or Pitt State would most likely be looking for someone with a level of success at the same level or maybe slightly lower but hiring a High School coach??? It just doesn't seem even remotely likely. Am I way out of line??

Yes it would be absurd in most cases. And I know that J.Rod works hard, probably harder than any other MO HS coach judging by his record. But even figuring that in he probably works at least half the hours of the average D1 head coach. Could a guy like J.Rod coach at the level? Yeah it's quite possible. Does he want to all of a sudden put in 100+hrs a week year round at this point in his life? I would say that's unlikely. Even if he did make 350,000.

I was a GA at a D1 school and 7 out of the 10 coaches there were divorced.

You are 100% right on. Those suggestions are absurd. I was hoping people were kidding.

The NCAA officially dropped the 1-A and 1-AA designation several years ago. It's now all NCAA Division I FCS or NCAA Division I FBS.

There is a pretty significant difference between FCS and FBS football.

Breakdown of scholarship and roster allowances:

There is also a pretty significant difference in the operating budgets of an FCS and FBS school, in large part due to the revenue driven by football. For example, Texas had $219 million in revenue and spent $206 in 2017-2018. NDSU had roughly $28 million in its operating budget.

There were 157 NFL players from FCS programs at the start of the season.

All the posts claiming, "I heard they were talking to Bailey or Roderick" regarding Pitt State and I'm thinking, "you gotta be kidding me." "You can't be serious." Unfortunately, I think some of them were actually serious.

Here are a few I can think of that started in HS. Some for a year and some for many years first. These are just some of the FBS ones.

Gus Malzahn - Arkansas State / Auburn
Todd Dodge - North Texas
Tommy Tuberville – Cincinnati / Auburn
Chad Morris – SMU Clemson Arkansas
David Cutcliffe – Duke
Chip Kelly – Oregon / NFL
Paul Johnson – Georgia Tech
Bill Snyder – Kansas State
Lovie Smith – Illinois.
Coach Drinkwitz - Mizzou
Todd Graham - Arizona State
Barry Odom - Miz / Arky
Jerry Kill - Minny, Northern Iowa / Etc
David Doeren - NCstate
Frank Solich - Ohio / Nebraska
Urban Meyer - OSU / Florida / Utah / BG
David Beaty - ku
Tom Allen - Indiana

I guess my point is that it's not totally unheard of and yes I realize those guys held assistants jobs before becoming head FBS coaches.

So, you're saying that these coaches all went directly from High School to the colleges listed next to their names?

It can for sure be done. But it takes some years to become a head coach. Drink took 9 years I believe and Malzahn, his mentor took several years as an OC before he got his shot. Literally no one on your list went straight from HS to NCAA head coach.

I literally said that in my post why do you need to repeat it? I would bet a lot of money guys have went from HS to NAIA, D2, and/or FCS head football jobs.

Because your list didn’t reflect the man’s point. Pffffft

point to where I said that...I even mentioned that’s not how it happens. Sheesh

You mean where you mentioned this? "I guess my point is that it's not totally unheard of and yes I realize those guys held assistants jobs before becoming head FBS coaches." It appears my attention deficit kicked in and I totally missed that.... We didn't have targeting penalties in my day.... I'm gonna blame that.
