You realize just about every district has an option like that? It’s not open enrollment, you have to apply, be approved and pay tuition more times than not. The other thing you are missing is the district the kid lives in has to approve it. Not exactly open enrollment is it.

You don't get it, that's not the case in st louis they can openly go wherever they want to and yes they apply but ain't Noone turning down D1 athletes.

Springfield has open enrollment but I believe you have to live in the correct zone to attend Kickapoo. Which is interesting that the only school without open enrollment is also the most competitive in sports.

Pembroke Hill will have to forfeit the three state basketball championships it won while Kareem and JaRon Rush were in high school. In the wake of Myron Piggie’s admission in court that he gave money to the Rush brothers, the director of the Missouri State High School Activities Association says the decision is cut and dried. Becky Oakes says it is now a matter of public record that Piggie gave the players cash, making them ineligible. MSHSAA rules state that a school must forfeit any games in which an ineligible player participated, meaning Pembroke Hill will have to give up its titles. East Carter will receive the 1997 title, Palmyra the ’98 title, and Hollister gets the state championship for 1999.

I agree with this, but let me ask a question: aren’t you guys the same folks who want to give public school money to private schools in the form of vouchers and who want statewide open enrollment to provide “opportunity” to people? What’s the difference?

Well, that’s purely moronic. If you want to solve a systemic issue, have the state shutdown the smaller districts that are a drain on the funding formula. Go to a county district model. That levels the playing field a bit and creates opportunities to still have “rural” schools that have funding and opportunities. Statewide open enrollment is about the biggest spoiled brat response to an education funding issue I’ve ever seen. Want to live in and attend a nice school district? Pack your shit up, purchase a house, and pay the tax just like the rest of us do.
