Harrisonville Seating Issues Thread :)

I've never understood this idea of being so unwelcoming. Schools who travel well, bring student busses, and support their teams? Roll out the red carpet. Haul in all the bleachers you safely can. Have a designated spot for their students and their signs. Greet them. Treat them as GUESTS. Triple stock your concessions. Welcome additional members of the press. Your guests bring atmosphere, revenue, and opportunity. Why be anything less than an ambassador for your community???

A Joplin parent told me this story.

Our team arrived to play Rockhurst. The biggest guys from the Hawklet football team greeted our guys as they stepped off the bus and they helped our players with their equipment and escorted them to the locker room. These guys were polite, respectful, big and therefore intimidating. Our players lost any bit of confidence before they even padded up, and Rockhurst already had the game won.

This was from somewhere before 2010 as I recall. Rockhurst worked to earn respect - they had no reason to piss off their opponents or the fans.

I look it up. Section 4 A 9. No team is considered the home team. If I were smart enough to copy and paste I would. Ha ha

So if any damage is done to the property the visiting school will pay for it? I didn' think so.

In case you are wondering who is hosting you can look at the 50 yard line in the center of the field.

???

Maybe (and I do mean MAYBE) this might be true for a private school, but a public school has no “property rights” (who is it you think owns the property, the principal???)
The school district taxpayers. You don't think schools have property rights? Try taking a computer out of a school computer lab and see what happens.

You can consider it whatever you want. Look at the name on the field and the school. The property rights of the school supersede any MSHSAA guidelines. If you disagree, then you can discuss it with MSHSAA after you exit the property.
Dude, who are you to decide when & where someone wants to protest?

I'm from Harrisonville and was at the '08 game and the 2010 game at Hville. In '09 place was packed and everyone gotvalong fine. In 2010 there were issues as I was behind one Webb fan who kept yelling about he could set wherever he wanted. I agree, I didn't understand that myself.

As far as student behavior....of some I'm sure not all they will push the limits. It does cut both ways. My son was a running back on that 2010 team and he played several vmails from his cell for me from students representing themselves as so and so player from Webb and what they were going to do to him. Webb students trying to get in his head or perhaps Hville students trying to fire him up? Who knows but we both found it humorous. Told him if someone felt the need to harass him someone was obviously concerned enough to go that effort. Still doesn't make up for anyone being treated poorly at the stadium. As a resident, all I can say is that I'm sorry for that experience and there are many great people that live here.

As far as the game, we couldn't stop AD in thr first half at all but it was a one score game at halftime. Maddie killed us in the second half, there was no running clock at any point and the better team one.

Good luck to both teams Friday night.

Just to add on, I can assure you players, fans and coaches respected Webb and that as big a deal as it was to beat Kearney, there was plenty of work left to do. I remember my son telling me that beating Webb was a whole other level they would need to go to. So to say we were overly confident in all cases is complete and tital BS. Even if that was the case, wouldn't you want your coaches and kids to be confident they would win? If you say otherwise, your lieing to yourself.

Don't worry about it. Things get blown out of proportion on this board.

I can see this is going nowhere fast, but I’ll try to explain how it works:

The taxpayers don’t pay the school district, they pay the state; the state then distributes the funds to those schools they believe derserve it. Don’t believe me? Just ask the KC School District what happens when you fall from the state’s good graces (and believe me, KC taxpayers still had pay the same in taxes even after KC schools lost funding).

Now of course, a good superintendent can still procure additional funds via grant applications, etc...

So if you must construe it as “the community owns the school!” (questionable logic, but whatever), consider this: MSHSAA still decides who can participate in it’s sanctioned sporting events; so follow THEIR rules (not your own) or that big stadium “owned by the community” will do nothing but collect dust or host powder puff games.

It’s like you think the home team can dictate to the game officials which rules they’re going to follow because it’s their field

Sure, MSHSAA can decide that a program can't host future games. I never said that there wouldn't be repercussions.

George, you were my all time favorite player and now I'm a fan of yours here. There was wrong in 2010 and you've taken one for your team. If all fans were this classy.....well, we all get the idea.

We were not disobeying any rules. In fact, quite the opposite. They were breaking the rules. They treated our fans like garbage. We were MSHSAA’s paying customers just like the home team. We have the right to be treated with respect.

I just remember all the WC players had on their headphones and the coaches told them not to listen as they were being yelled at by the students, and by one student in the cow suit with a megaphone. Lol They were even singing Happy Birthday to Hunter Luna and mentioning the name of his girlfriend at the time. I remember the boys getting friend requests on Facebook from Harrisonville kids. Now that I look back, it is really funny.

The seating issues and crappy adults was not funny—but like I said earlier, I think it was addressed and think they haven’t had those issues since.

Certainly that isn’t the worst thing that has happened in my life nor has anyone suffered distress over it.

So true!!

While it sounds like an truly lousy way for H'ville to handle an overcrowded event, I don't think Webb City fans truly appreciate how much of a pain it can be to host them these days. It is not the same fanbase that 20+ years ago earned a reputation for being respectful and humble while proud of their small town team. There are still a ton of great fans indeed, but after 3 decades of success a lot of outside people have jumped on the winning bandwagon and their fans have grown accustomed to winning and expecting things. I've seen things from WC fans over the last several years that I never thought I would see.

The same thing would happen to any program with that kind of success. And to be clear I am referring strictly to fans. Not the team.

I agree, there are some Webb "fans" that are douchebags, I hope when people come across them, they don't judge us all with them. I have seen Webb "fans" be A holes and I have said something to them.
I tell my son all the time someone is always watching him, so act accordingly. I wish some adults would remember that too!
Like I said, '14 was way better and I hope that it is that way this Friday night. Best of luck to Harrisonville!

I have gone to many games and many towns and there is always at least one in every bunch. But I have meet a lot of great fans and coaches from a lot of great towns who I am proud to call friends.

I think the more a team wins the harder it is for the fans to remember what it was like when you were not winning or trying to get over that hump. They become judgey and forget to be humble and appreciated of what they have.

I agree Bullit. I also think the attitudes of the home fan base are directly related to the overall attitudes of the town. Take Walnut Heights for example. They are a very rich, wealthy town and the fans act like it!

I watch about every game with a coach who led your cubbies for many years. The guy would not tolerate any of us other old timers raising too much hell :) funny how he is Purdy AD now but at all WC games

Then I have probable stood beside you at a game or two. When I go to a Webb Game I will usually try to go look Coach up when I can. I enjoy talking to him.

I remember a frantic lady from Neosho. Her and her husband had just purchased a newer car, her husband was at work. She had a couple younger kids with her. Her only set of keys were accidentally put I a !paper sack and tossed in a trash barrel which ended up in a dumpster. She did the best she could but no luck. I ran home changed into dumpster diving appropriate clothes and went in. After awhile I came up with her keys. She thanked me. My only request was too not judge all Webbies by the action of a few.

I was hoping my story didn't come off that way. Sorry. I was just trying to point out that you shouldn't judge all fan bases by a few. I told a story that I knew was true. I'm sure for every negative story you hear there are nine great stories you don't hear. Like CNN, negativity is newsworthy.

Yea I had to listen Friday night to detailed explanation of how certain pass routes open up running lanes for the veer,,,,the guy could run like a deer. Caught a couple of TD's for theVikings against the Chiefs back in the day as they say
