So far we are not splitting ventilators. Trump's actual guess was not far off. Are we saving everyone we can save in New York? Yes. Good news our health care system has not been overrun yet.

Good thing we don't have socialized medicine.

The health system is holding up, but there is a disturbing result in NYC that needs further understanding. NYC's increase in total deaths reported to the CDC is much, much larger than what it is reporting as COVID deaths. Many of these excess deaths are people being reported as dying at home. They aren't being counted as COVID deaths because they aren't being tested. It's quite possible the system would be more stressed if more people were actually seeking treatment. Generally, though, when people are locked down, death rates should decline, because you're not driving/walking/doing things that are more likely to result in an accident.

Red herring for $1,000, Alex.

Of all the things you can say, it's very difficult to argue that this is meaningful. If this really mattered...you'd think we'd have better results for our overall life expectancy, maternal mortality metrics, etc. But, we don't generally show better health outcomes, and there's really no reason to think we are magically better at treating COVID than a place like Canada or even Italy. We just didn't let our system get as overwhelmed as Italy or Spain did. That's not attributable to socialized medicine; that's attributable to social distancing.
