I'm looking for thoughts from you all. I notice on this board that it was only a couple years ago there would be 2-3 pages a week discussing football all over the state, then something happened. And on the old sca site before it crashed talk about sports was declining on there as well. We put together a new site for the sca/ozarks folks but in 6 months only 87 people have joined. You can tell where there is a lot of readers (lurkers, sometimes 140 in a day) but very few talkers. Any ideas???

I like the stories about seasons past as well as current games. The sports info guys are really interesting. Sometimes the posters get butthurt and leave the board. Some posters are coaches or affiliated with a school in some regard and anonymity can be a concern. Some posters have boy's that have graduated and HS football no longer interests them.
The average fan brings limited value to the board, (exceptions are Top, Scout and others that attend games beyond their hometown teams, but those guys that attend regional games and post, are far and few between. If the board had more access to statistical information that would be nice. But, there are pitfalls in that, at the high school level. Some parent or mom will get offended. The inside scoop is from those fellas willing to risk being identified so that scares away some coaches, ( this is taboo for some guys if they are called out). I think more than anything, it's a sign of the FUBAR times. Just my opinion. Some turd is always offending or offended. No jokes are allowed, somebody is always pissed off. So they don't bother with the headaches.

EXACTLY!!!

I keep thinking the same thing. When I first came here in early 2000s there were tons of posts by lots of posters on a weekly basis. Seemed like an army of wc fans and quite a few from Carthage as well. I think one difference is that back then a lot of students were on the boards and I believe this board specifically was banned by roderique. I recall some ugly posts between what seemed to be wc players and Carthage parents. Definitely don't miss the trash talk that was so common back then. In those days wc was very good but only went to state every so often, not like they have been in more recent years. Carthage had been down for maybe a decade or more but was starting to find success against everyone except wc who was at the time in the same district.

I didn't follow hs football or this board much for several years and in spite of a much needed redesign, activity is way down. Few games have threads until after it's started, many games scores or thoughts are never posted at all. I used to use this site for scores and commentary of other games but now ScoreStream has more up to the minute scores though no commentary. Even this year I was surprised at the almost total lack of preseason talk up until just a few days prior to the first games. This year in particular has seen a large graduation for many schools around here, plus wc is 4-3 so that seems to have thrown a wet towel on their excitement to talk about for the season to some degree and they generally seem to be that largest group of posters here.

Attendance at the schools I've been to, Carthage, WC, CJ seems to be as high as ever, so I don't think it's declining interest in the game, just declining use of this site or message boards in general.

This website is on a "don't go on there" list for players. Not said but kind of understood. For me, I liked coming on here because you could get info but something did change. The info started becoming gripe sessions. Then it became blame sessions. And now posters like throwing players names out on here and degrading them. I think for the most part the posters that made this a great site have left because there isn't any integrity to any one poster anymore. Everybody throws a jab at some point and with other more important stuff going on in the world.....we just left. It stopped being fun and you can see it in the posts. I think the last post I did was asking about what we had returning for next season and I believe I got every jab one could think of....but not once a discussion of the thread topic.

I lost interest when the board became a Mizzou football vs the world forum. Every post ended up being about that. And not interesting conversation, just fanboy "your team sucks" stuff. Mainly one poster, who doesn't seem to be on here much any more.

Twitter happened.

When this site, and others like it started in the late 1990's/early 2000's it was a new medium and one of the only places you could find scores and talk about HS Football.

Now almost everyone uses twitter for that so traffic is down on Friday's. That leads to traffic being down throughout the week as well.

It's not just this site. Powermizzou doesn't have near the post or traffic that it did a few years back.

I will say that if mosports had an app, they might see talk and action pick up a bit. Most people use phones for everything these days, including web browsing and this site isn't very conducive for phones without an app involved.

I agree I think Twitter is killing it. I use to get on here to look up scores and post updates, however now I can get on twitter for scores. Plus a lot of the high school kids use it it and post there. The only bad thing about twitter is you have to know somebody or their handle to start following them otherwise just hope they show up when you are looking for something. Twitter can be overwhelming for this old guy.

For me I used to love to get on here and have discussions about High School football. There were many people you could have good discussions and some good bantering back and forth, then all of a sudden it changed and all of a sudden you couldn't post anything without it becoming a pi$$ing match. It was getting to a point there was as much or more talk about college and Pro football than High School football. So I just decided for me it was easier to just participate in the pick ems and once in a great while I would find some thread that I wanted to get involved in but not too often. I still read most everything, except all the prescription crap. I guess with all the social media and such, it will never be as good as it was, but then as life goes.

Most people i know or talk to about this site Have no clue Its even here.. I've tried to point the way for quite a few people but don't know if they ever made it.. I Love using these boards to talk about High School Football. I don't do Twitter or many other social sites.. I Have Facebook but all the talk on there is for my home Team.. I hope these boards stay around.

Well right now the 10 top ten teams is getting good, but it is recycled from several years back with just newer teams. I still love the Macot thread that was clasic and there were several others.

I think when they changed the layout of this board a lot of people lost interest as it was harder to follow. Used to be able to post a response and then go back a day or two later and see all the replies, now to me it's just too hard to follow.

Well our admin and coaches say they never get on here find that hard to believe... however if that is so I might just start to go ramp up my post!
I never have tried to hide who I am on this sight, but over time people have figured out who I am, so over the years I have had to tone down my post.

Got to say that if it were not for this site many great people would have never been met or talked to by this poster.

"If" I were in charge I'd have a get together each year at the State Championship Games with a theme based on the promotion of High School Football History.

"Kansas" :confused: excluded of course..

Every community has at least one story to tell about when their team was Great.

Believe it or not, the enemy at game time can be your best friend when the game is through. :)

Compared to most states on the Rivals network, Missouri has a LOT more traffic. I was on the Florida site a few years back, and it was a snoozer. Have been on Mississippi, Arkansas, and most of our surrounding states sites and they have multiple years of content on the 1st page. Hell, even the drug pushers stay away from them.

Very true. I was on the Ohio site a few months ago for rivals. It was a ghost town. I don't think there wer hardly any threads started by anyone other than the admins.

So I got on yappi. Was making a post about former Kenton, OH coach mike mauk, now at Glendale.

There are two type of coaches... those who are lurking on here and the ones who lie about it.

I just use the rivals app for iPhone. It's pretty user friendly I think. You have tabs to go from the message boards to news, etc etc.

There just wasn't as many avenues back then to get the info. You could get on here late on a Friday and there would be new posts popping up left and right. I also think the more regional boards killed some traffic. Semo area has semoball.com. And I believe Realray or somebody started up a swmo forum of sorts?

I

What's the new site??

http://scmohssports.freeforums.net/

I agree that some have gone regional, but the SCA site was up since 2006 and it didnt affect mosports at all (I dont think). Most of us used both, and the regional idea isnt bad, I got to meet and know at least 1 person from each SCA town, and from there got to know a few more. Some are good friends now and we dont talk just sports, so it's definitely been handy.

By the way (not advertising against any site) anyone is welcome to our site, it is SCA prioritized but I did make a column for other Ozarks conference chat. We have a few from Lamar, Reeds Spring, Monett (I think) and Fair Grove on there.

I really hope these forums pick back up again. I dont do the instatwittergram thing, I just do these boards and facebook (which is bad enough lol). Thank you all for your replies and may your teams do well

Ditto, cant get around the site as easy and get schedules, etc. But main issue for me and just the loss of some members over the years that made the site more enjoyable.

1 - Twitter took away people coming here to get scores.

2 - Message boards are "old school" to kids today (even people in their 20's), so traffic is down to us older folks.

3 - I guess message boards aren't iphone friendly, which doesn't bother me, but does impact A LOT of people these days.

I'll still come here to post and find out info like I have since about January of 2000.

Unless there is a money issue running the forums, I do not see a problem.

Never really ever used this site as a data base, fact checker...
have many other options for that right here on my phone.

I just like talking with people who's interest coincide with mine concerning HSF.

Infact I'm waiting for Tophat right now at Pizza Shop in Kearney before K-Town/ Emeralds game.

Getting a little tired of hearing about Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

I am talking real time, to real people, right now....

Really! :)

Case in point, during game time friday there were only a small handful of games with any threads. Carthagefan is reliable and a couple others as well. There wasn't even a WC/Neosho thread until after the game was over. In years past it would have been started by the monday before the game and there would probably be several active threads about the same game while it was being played. There was and is still no thread about what sounded like a thrilling 2OT Nixa/Ozark game. I'm inclined to think there was a lot of posting being done about these games, as glued to phones as people are these days. They just aren't posting here.

You make good points, I personally, use my phone to post.

Just like RC aeronautics, people tend to not all like the same things.
I lean towards the science of flight rather than flight itself.

I'm not going anywhere ...:)

There are gonna be some good games this week to discuss.

LSW (vs) Lee Summit comes to mind.

Just not sure how far a true passing team can go once the weather changes.

In any case Springfield will be great for me one way or the other. The University Plaza Hotel will be awaiting my arrival.

And my Credit Card...;)

1) Webb is down so they're not posting 85 new threads telling everyone how good they are
2) Way too many PC cry babies that get butthurt when you talk negative about them in anyway.
3) SRVC guys realize how much they've overrated themselves . That said, WEMO is down so far they might get the biggest win in their conference history this year.
4) I'm not trolling much to keep the board active.

My bad.

Well honestly for the first 10-12 years I was on this site a good 50% of the posts were about if/when/how bad Webb City could/would beat Rockhurst. Since Ridethebull bull settled that on the field once and for all there really isn't much interesting to talk about
