For fielding a D1 basketball team. Their 6th man is going Power 5. Hard to do that.

Open enrollment will fix all our woes.😐
From what I’m hearing most school districts won’t opt in and participate in open enrollment. Districts aren’t gonna want trouble makers transferring into their districts. Unless there is a vetting process a school is allowed to do before they allow a kid to transfer then they likely won’t opt in. It sounds great for good school districts if they can always select quality kids that have a proven track record of good behavior and will enhance the district whether it’s through athletics or academics. However I’m just guessing that schools won’t be allowed to pick and choose kids based on that type of criteria.

The state make it a sound like you get to pick and choose but the first kid you don't want in will try to sue you because your excluding them.

the one year of not being able to play, if you attend a school outside the one you live, will help A LITTLE with transferring, simply for sports.

Hmmm? Vetting process?

1. Can run a sub 5.0 40y?
2. Can you bench press 250+?
3. Like football? Y/N Yes!

You are in.

Last years bill was written like that. We will see about this years, but it seems to be losing a little steam, not sure if it will pass this session or not

Man Vashon girls had 2 all-state move ins this year. One was on the cover of the MSHSAA with last years team uniform on! 😂 😂 😂 😂

Not to mention that this in no way helps rural districts, of which we have many.

Hell, Jackson has been doing that for 30 years.

You play football? No. You play basketball? No.

Ummmm, sorry we're full. Better go check with Cape Central.

You'd be surprised at how many kids in neighboring districts could meander their way to the more successful programs.

It will almost be like a private school.

I would beat most private school would be ok with it. Just as long as public schools get hit with the championship factor as well.

Its about 6 miles as the crow flies from Excelsior Springs HS to Kearney HS. Just saying there are a good number of them that could make the switch over to K.

Not everything is about kearney.

How far is it for kearney kids to go to liberty?

Looks like it is the same for this years. People are worried about the small districts but some of them have smaller class sizes and I could see some of them benefitting. The thing is we won't know until we know.

The enrolling into the open enrollment program has me interested, will parents have to put track times, batting averages and any other sports related information in there so the the districts will know more about the kid?

The bill would limit the portion of students who can transfer out of a school district to 3%. It would also prevent student athletes from competing for one year after transferring in an effort to prevent swarms of athletes from moving schools for recruiting.

Students would be able to transfer to eligible schools starting during the 2024-2025 school year. School districts that wish to accept incoming students would have to enroll in an open enrollment program by December before each school year.

If you’re a 2nd or even third teamer at Liberty North, why not move just a hair north and actually get on the field?

Because you'd have to sit a year, under the current bill...unless you actually moved.

The bill isn’t going to pass, so it’s moot anyway. The supermajority in both houses has been trying for 20+ years to no avail.

There is a neighborhood where Smithville, Kearney, and LN all meet. Depends on the side of the road you live on.
Kearney and Liberty border one another on 33, Plattsburg Road and A Highway. Very hard to discern which cross streets are the dividing lines.
Lets ask the important questions here. Do the hot Kearney moms stick to one neighborhood or are they spread out over the town??
