Class 4 District 8 Best and Deepest in the state

Hahahahahahahahaha.

I think we all know which Class 4 district is truly the deepest in the state.

Not to mention, using cal preps to validate how strong your district is, is counterproductive to proving your point.

Im not sure the rankings matter past:
Webb City
Carl Junction
Kearney
no disrespect but seems to be a 3 man race.

Kearney most likely won't even be #1 seed in their district. If Smithville runs the table to district play.

See both Kearney and PC with 2 losses when districts start.

That could be true but Kearney and PC have played a tougher schedule so I don't think it is a big deal except PC and Kearney might meet in the district quarters. Neither Kearney or PC would have a terribly long drive to Smithville so seed is probably less important than say if Carl Junction has to travel to West Plains or vice versa.

Agree, my only thinking is winner of Kearney and Platte County battle in district semi may overlook Smithville in a district final.

Looks like smithville may be good but my gut tells me Kearney is the team to beat. Smithville may not play as good as schedule as Kearney. Time well tell if either is a contender I guess.

I finally get to see them in person but feel K has a shot at Staley now. Just a feeling.........

It is more than that, something I touched on preseason. Platte County has the athletes to knock K off but has just one win over them since they started facing each other nine years ago. Smithville not only hasn't beat Kearney but has never been closer than 3 scores and that includes "peak" teams in 2011 and 2014. Like other sports it isn't only what is on paper but the psychology that matters.

If Kearney beats Staley and PC, then beating an overrated Webb will be anticlimactic. Will they beat Staley? I'm not seeing it.
Rivalry game. 2011 nobody gave K a stone's chance in heck and they had the ball with 2 mins to go only down 16-10. I will know much, much more next Friday but this defense appears very legit and Staley was pushed by a Fort team I'd love K's chances against now that they seem to have settled on a QB.

WC is not overrated. Defense is one of the best ever for WC and the offense is good enough to score on any defense we have faced so far and CJ probably has the second best defense in class 4.

The best 2 teams in the state (C4) border each other in southwest MO.
Heard something along these lines in 2002, 2003, 2009 and 2015. Not saying K is there just yet but am beginning to believe they do have another elite defense. You need to listen to the wise Corn Frog who knows better............

This post is not about Webb or the second best District in Class 4. This is about District 8...which is much deeper in talent than your overrated district. You guys were spewing the same thing about Webb and CJ LAST Year...and I did not see anyone from District 5 in the semis.

You are Webb to respond to a statement like "an overrated webb team'' is not needed. lol

I will say Webb has a nice fast Def. but one of the best ??? like top 2,3?

Overlooking Kearney any year is dumb. Dismissing any team you have never seen play this year is also dumb.
To Tops comments, he is right. But in defense of some Webbies I must make the point; we were wrong in the years listed by Top but have been right more than we were wrong. 89,92,93,97,00,01,06,08,10,11,12,13,14

93 was probably the best. This defense probably in top 5. FYI I think Kearney has played a tougher schedule this year due to the COC being down IMO. Kearney very well could win the state championship this year. And maybe the bottom 3 teams in district 8 are better than the bottom 3 teams in WC district.

I think WEBBs D is good. I do not think it's a top 5 or whatever of WEBB defenses ive seen the last 25 years. As far as the COC being down, because WEBB wasn't very good for WEBB last year doesn't exactly mean the COC was good. When a team goes 10-12 seasons or however long without losing a conference game then loses 3 in one year, doesn't mean oh my GOD these teams are great it means uh oh we aren't that good..

I believe Webb is good. I also think Carl is good and think we will find out that Kearney is good. Im picking one of them to win it all. Really going out on a limb lol.

No. It's pretty much WCs to lose this year. The KC area teams all have major flaws

Nobody out of KC will win 4A this year. Gonna be Carl Junction! Sorry Webbies. Sorry Keareaneay.

Stamp it!

You'll find out when CJ smashes Webb City in October. And then Kearaneay. If Kernaaeay even makes it that far. (doudtful)

I am extremely happy that you believe in your team!

That is great that you support them and think they are the best ever!!

Good luck!

They have one quality win against a top quartile team and now they are "second best in Class 4." No bro.

But they believe in their team!!! That's a great start!! When the town starts believing in them and the kids hear what their parents, uncle's and grandma's are saying about how great the team and the coaches are then they buy in 100%!!
That's exactly how programs like Webb City and KMO got to where they are at.

The difference is Webb City and KMO don't have to convince themselves or other people now!

One way to convince: get quality wins. Webb has four this year against top quartile teams.

Take Class 4, divide into 4. Look at the Maxpreps national rating of #17. Anyone under 3,666 is in the top quartile for Class 4. Webb has four wins against teams with this ranking. CJ - 1. Smithville -1 Platte County 2 Kearney 1.

CJ and Webb play the exact same schedule except against each other so how are they 3 wins apart?

So, first let me say that no doubt both of these districts (5 and 8) look quite strong. Doubt if anyone would argue that.

District 5 teams have no common opponents or head-to-head games with District 8. So nothing there to use for measuring.

Can’t use history – last year’s seniors graduated, this year’s players are a year better, transfers in, transfers out.

There have been more posts on here than anyone can count talking about how rankings and polls are a waste.

So someone could use Calpreps or Maxpreps or Massey – of course nobody working for any of these companies has watched Webb City, Kearney, Smithville, or Camdenton play this year.

Or we could use MSHSAA’s rating system, which, ahhh, is actually the gospel when it comes to determining how good all Missouri teams are when it comes to post-season district seeding.

Given that, district 5 has the highest rated team, and it has a higher average rating of its top two teams, and it has the highest rating of the top 3 teams, and so on, all the way to the highest averaging rating for all 8 of its teams.

Compare the #2 team in each district, or the #3 or 6 or whatever. Find the average of #3 and #4 from district 5 and compare it to district 8.

District 5 (southwest Missouri) is better in 90+% of the scenarios.

District 8 has the edge when comparing the 5th rated team in each district, and district 8 has a higher average when adding teams 4 and 5 together.

These MSHSAA ratings are based on who you’ve played, how many points you won by, playing up, strength of schedule, etc. Actual results.

Judge for yourself….everyone is welcome to their opinion and whether they are more accurate than any of the aforementioned.

By the way, some would say Webb's high rating skews the results. So I took them and Kearney out and still had the same findings - district 5 always rates higher than 8 no matter how you look at it.

But of course when trying to determine the stronger district, we can't just remove Webb City (or Kearney) can we?

District 8 has a much stronger field of teams, and their average Calpreps rating exceeds District 5. 12.2 v. 14.7

Ranked in order and matched team for team, Class 8 wins every game except against #1 and #2.
