CJ Football

If it was his last game , that will because he choose for it to be. He is no danger of getting fired.

It looks bleek for CJ but that's no fault of buckmaster . That being said , I wouldn't really blame him if he went fishing to improve his situation.

Was there times he could have taken out starters a bit sooner ? Maybe ....I guess ? But having an empty cupboard has nothing to do with that. If you are hell-bent on blaming him ...blame him for the lack of participation 7-12th grade . They have very poor #'s for a team with the amount of success CJ has had . Is that his fault ? I have no clue ? Itmay be ...it may just be a culture of the town thing . I honestly couldn't tell ya..again ...sometimes you have the horses and sometimes you don't . He needs better participation for sure but who knows to blame for that? I guess he is an easy target but it goes deeper that buck I assume

I don't think he is some kind of Messiah or offensive God he has got a reputation to be BUT he's a solid coach in a tough spot . When you only have 15 kids per grade playing football ....no matter who is coaching ...you are going to have some lumps . Figure out who to blame that on but I can guarantee it's not one single person at fault ....it's a collective fail

It is not Buck's fault. My daughter did youth cheer 4 or 5 years ago and every grade lost every week. Those grades lost in junior high and are now coming into high school. Every school has a down cycle. The question is why or how Webb never does.

Problem is ..when you have about 20 freshman playing ....by the time they are seniors ....there will be like 9.

Webb has 55 freshman this year .....there will only be 30ish when they are seniors ....it seems normal to lose about half of them between 9-12 for various reasons ....but when you only start with 15-20...it's bad news .

That is true but if the younger high school classes had 50 kids out they would still not be very good. They just don't have any athletes in those classes.

Buck has gotten the program on a winning track. He, and other coaches, are just exceptionly bad at playing players (especially if you're 3-4 steps slower than the kid, starter, who is bad at blocking and doesn't know when to make cuts). I see it as reaping what you sow. At Webb kids wait their turn to play, there's no turn at CJ. I don't believe in kids quitting anything in life, but there are a few exceptions and CJ is it. We're not talking about kids who don't do camps and weights, late to practices, or get into trouble. These are honor roll kids who show up and work hard at everything the coaches have them do and are good citizens. They actually work harder than most of the starters. Their parents aren't ones yelling about their kid is a super star and needs to play. They're parents who have been keeping quiet-- until this year. They want to know why their kid has altogether 2 minutes of playing time in 2 years with half of their games being lop-sided scores. Two seniors didn't get to play in first WC game! They're kids who didn't play in Joplin. I don't blame seniors for leaving in this case. This is a poor reflection of the coaches--not the kids and parents!
Being a senior should have absolutely no relevance to playing time if you are going to judge a coach on wins and losses.

Any chance these guys got JV minutes?
I don't know. Maybe everyone did the right thing here.
If you're a senior? And not getting any kind of playing time?
I'm sure it feels like a waste of time.
Also not sure there is an obligation to play them.
Maybe if I'm a junior this year and not playing much?
Maybe I either bust my hump to improve in the off-season? Or, I go do something else next football season.
No one should probably be 'promising playing time' unless it comes with some requirements to be met. Maybe it did.

No disagreements with you.......but in blowouts might be able to sneak them in. I completely agree that you play the best to win but when game is out of hand you build the program and give kids playing time.

I am 110% in agreement with all your points ... my only hesitation is that these kids will be gone next year as Seniors.
Yes ... getting them minutes in an already decided game might help with morale or marketing (both of which are suffering in CJ).
But, it might NOT help to physically ?? build the FUTURE of the team??
Does that make sense?!
We agree.
