Cassville v Lamar

Great Great Great Game. Great atmosphere, much respect on both sides, two quality programs with lots of tradition. I have been there for all the brotherhood great ones, (Two CJ losses, Last CJ win for first big 8 championship, LN 7-6 last year, Trinity in 2016 26-18, Blair Oaks championship in 2012, Maplewood qtr final in 2011, Liberty MV qtr in 2010) and this one may have been the best.

Difference in this game and all the others is I liked the program on the other side. Shannon Haney's (QB) play in the second half was the single greatest individual performance I have witnessed, next to the Liberty MV fullback in 2010, Cedric Gartman two pick 6's in BO 2012 game, Cooper Lucas' domination of 2016 Monett (the year they won state). Haney would not go down, and almost all of his yards came after initial contact.

I think the result will be good for both teams. Cassville knows it can hang with the big boys, and Lamar lost the pressure of "the streak". Back to the Lab for both teams! Gonna be a fun playoffs for the big 8!
Now THAT is GREAT commentary!
Thank you

What adjustments were there to make by Lamar at halftime? Lamar controlled the game in the first half. Cassville did make key adjustments especially on defense. I don’t know what Lamar should have done different at halftime. They were in control of the game. Outside of discipline adjustments for penalties I don’t know what any coach would have changed.

There’s such a thing as re adjustments. And stopping the run by stacking the box. Cassville ran on them even during the first half. Lamar just got some stops. I feel people didn’t watch what I did. It’s weird.

I was at the game too. Cassville didn't run on them in first half they had something like 35 to 40 yard of rushing in first half and over 250 in second half. Cassville was pretty busy throwing several bombs in the first half and also threw that long int. Cassville adjusted at halftime
and found a way to make those holes we fan folk coulda ran thru in the second half. Funny tho, I feel the same way were u watching...............lol

Cassville had 3 first downs the 1st half. Only 24 rushing yards and just over 100 total yards. 75 of those came on the hook and lateral . Lamar didn't need to make adjustments at halftime.

Total reversal in the 2nd half. Apparently Coach Parnell lit a fire under them at halftime. They came out the 2nd half and controlled both lines of scrimmage and their backs ran extremely hard. Their quarterback ran as hard as anyone I've seen in quite sometime. He was dragging would be tacklers down the field on every play. Once they got the momentum, they never gave it back. Definitely a tale of two halves.

Both teams will be better for playing in this game. The atmosphere was electric and both teams were exposed to weaknesses that can be worked on for the upcoming playoffs. Cassville's weakness was exposed in the first half and was corrected at halftime. Lamar's was exposed in the 2nd half and I'm sure Coach Bailey and Coach Lundine will address those in practice this week.

Both teams played their hearts out and this game is similar to the two games Lamar had with Carl Junction a few years ago. Lamar's last 3 losses have come down to the final play of the game. In each case, they determined the conference champion. But in each case, they didn't end the season.

Congratulations to the Cassville Wildcats on being Big 8 Champions. Good luck in the Class 3 playoffs. Bring another state title back to Barry County.

We are running. Must. Get away before Cassville fans return, Precious. We have all the troutses!

Yeah I'm wondering what game you watched in the first half. Cassville was pretty lucky it was only 21-7. PapaT hit it pretty dead on with those stats, that was the game I watched. Outside of the hook and lateral Cassville had no offense in the first half.

I see what you're saying.
Others were saying 'Half-time adjustments' needed to be made by Lamar and I think they likely meant 'Adjustments during the second half'. It was a little odd that they held fast with that plan on defense when it was allowing the Wildcats to run up the middle with so much success. Hard to know what was going on in the huddle or on the sidelines (especially if you watch online) but it did appear to be worth a shot for Lamar to add another body to the line when they were getting manhandled in the second half. I don't enjoy questioning people who have enjoyed so much success though. Still look forward to following both of these programs!

From a generic bystander ... I think Cass had a handful of nice looks in the first half. Some great hits on defense etc.
I think it's fair to say each team dominated one half of the game but I can see where that might be over-simplifying. :D

My two cents on a couple of things.
1. This was defiantly a tale of two halves. I do believe the shift started before half. I was not at the game but watched it online. I told my wife at half that they had better get it together at half or Cassville will be right back in it.

2. As much as I enjoyed the win streak it is a little bitter sweet to see it end. After watching Lamar this past two seasons there is a big difference in winning a game or winning a state championship and trying to keep some kind of streak alive. I believe there is motivation in trying to win a game. Unfortunately when you add some kind of record or streak to it, the pressure overwhelms the motivation. I don't want Lamar State Champion streak to end because I know many of these kids and know the joy it brings but, I do hope they can get back to trying to win a Championship and not trying to keep a streak alive. That is more burden than a high school football player should have to endure.

Well stated.
