Cassville v Lamar

I know Lamar is far to spoiled to complain, but it sure seems like you remember the thrilling losses worse than the wins. Cassville hitch and pitch/blocked FG came back to mind instantly standing there watching fans rush the field. Had to think for a while to think of thrilling wins. Hats off to Cassville. This one will be talked about for a long time
Losing to great teams in the regular season does nothing but toughen you up for the playoffs. One week from today these games will all be totally forgotten.

^^^^This right here!

I said to some friends at halftime of our game that losing to Cassville could very well be the best thing to happen to Lamar’s state title chances this year! #WakeUpCall

Also, Lamar...
White pants???

Cassville thinks they can win...

Would you like to retract that comment now

Yes, we did think we could beat Lamar, and we did!!! We are waiting for the retraction! #respect!!

Congratulations Cassville Wildcats. What a game!! A tale of two halves. Lamar controlled the first half and led 21-7. Cassville controlled the second half and came away with a hard earned victory. The Wildcat QB played like a man possessed in the 2nd half. He refused to lose. Good luck to the Wildcats in the playoffs. Hopefully the Big 8 can bring home a pair of titles.

Lamar dominated first half but killed a couple drives with their own mistakes and Cassville found a way to score (H & P) when they were not doing much offensively.

The second half Cassville took control. Lamar couldn’t find a way to score a single point. Cassville did not make mistakes and scored TD’s on 99 yard and 80 yard drives.

Well, the players and coaches will put this game behind them Monday as they focus on District Playoffs. However, as I told my friend on the way home, we’ll be talking about this one 5, 10 and more years from now.

Congratulations to Cassville! Also--great job Lamar for an amazing streak!

I thought Cassville may be in for a good season after I saw them against Willard in the jamboree. Have seen them at the jamboree several years in a row and this was by far the best looking team I have seen from the Wildcats. Congrats on the win.

I learned two things last night.

Lamar will be determined to win under all costs the rest of the year. A loss like this does that to a team. Sounds like something they should already do. But that’s a huge motivation to make it more interesting.

Cassville is better than even I thought. I’ve watched them for the most part this season. Had no idea they’d truly win. Especially after the first half. Class 3 is tough but determination like that can carry a team.

Great Great Great Game. Great atmosphere, much respect on both sides, two quality programs with lots of tradition. I have been there for all the brotherhood great ones, (Two CJ losses, Last CJ win for first big 8 championship, LN 7-6 last year, Trinity in 2016 26-18, Blair Oaks championship in 2012, Maplewood qtr final in 2011, Liberty MV qtr in 2010) and this one may have been the best.

Difference in this game and all the others is I liked the program on the other side. Shannon Haney's (QB) play in the second half was the single greatest individual performance I have witnessed, next to the Liberty MV fullback in 2010, Cedric Gartman two pick 6's in BO 2012 game, Cooper Lucas' domination of 2016 Monett (the year they won state). Haney would not go down, and almost all of his yards came after initial contact.

I think the result will be good for both teams. Cassville knows it can hang with the big boys, and Lamar lost the pressure of "the streak". Back to the Lab for both teams! Gonna be a fun playoffs for the big 8!

I told Haney that after the game. Team effort but he carried that team on his back and stepped up like a true leader. His team responded to his example. He willed his team to win. 5’10” 165 and was carrying tacklers down the field on his back. Great game by both teams.

Lamar made zero adjectments at half. We shouldn’t have been able to do that. Effort and heart wasn’t why we won. We literally had holes people in the crowd could run though. Lamar never loaded the box. They kept 4. And were out on the field far too long. Play Lamar again and I doubt we would win. I’m glad Cassville won. Don’t get me wrong. But? Man that late game tackling was bad by Lamar. We got that INT that shouldn’t have been thrown as well. That win can help Cassville out a lot come playoff time. I think districts will be a little tough but nothing we couldn’t handle. I feel sorry for the first few teams including at least the first game after districts that has to play Lamar. Yikes. Lamar will throttle them.

Wouldn't Lamar throttle the first team or two in districts whether they'd have won or lost last night?

I think extra motivation and the sour taste will create a better looking team. There’s a difference between doing the same. And winning big. And looking like a fresh team while doing it. If Cassville can stay and wait for Lamar players to come to them. And the same plays don’t work. Than other teams will copy Cassville. I’m saying I expect Lamar will work on what happened. And be more determined to be a different team. This isn’t a slight at Lamar or anything. Just my two cents. I expect a better looking offensive game plan the rest of the year for Lamar. That was in my opinion exactly what Lamar needed to finish out the year strong.

My take is Lamar isn’t quite as strong as they have been the last few years. Still good enough to have a shot at winning #8 and still superbly coached.

I had an iPad in my lap and an iPhone in my hand last night watching Lamar-Cassville and Kearney-Smithville.

My observation was not that Lamar was out coached or that the players were unmotivated. Cassville is a very solid team, a legit class 3 contender and physically were superior in the second half. In short, I don’t think Lamar “underachieved” last night. For the first time in quite a while another Big 8 team was superior.

Win or lose last night Lamar is going to roll until they likely get to the semis but it is going to take a huge effort to win another title.

Lamar’s coaching was a issue. I was at the game. I’ll get flack for this. I don’t care. I respect the heck out of coach Bailey. But he made zero halftime adjustments. This is more about gameplay than Cassville just winning. We are really good. But Lamar should have won. I really hope the coaches have more will into looking at decisions made than thinking along those lines. The same play isn’t working and continuing to do it won’t cut it. And not stacking the box against a team that’s average at throwing, and letting them run up the middle is ALL coaching. Cassville just fed off what Lamar didn’t adjust to honestly. But big win for Cassville.

Actually, Jolene, Lamar adjusted but Cassville adjusted more efficiently (by the way, please don't take my man)

I’d love to hear the adjustments made. Everyone on both sides noticed the lack of adjustments. (Lame joke insert here) Are you calling yourself gay? I’m confused.

Good one...I will defer to your elite IQ. Enjoy your rest of the day on the message board

Cracking jokes as old as time isn’t providing football conversation. You made a statement that’s not really backed up by anything noticeable. I asked for clarification. You provided nothing. Thanks for the trolling.

What an amazing streak by Lamar. Hope they can get another going. Bailey’s a good coach and the community should be proud of the kids, parents and administration. The q.b. for Cassville was just hard to contend with last night. Gained some tough yards. So was the running back. Tough yds. Great game to watch .I didn’t have any horses in the race, but just wanted to watch good football. It was

I really have a hard time figuring out who u where rooting for. Cassville just made better adjustments at halftime. Bad coaching doesnt keep 3 or 4 guys from tackling our qb. Our Defense stiffened up from midway thru 2 quarter thru the rest of the game. Our boys gained more confidence in themselves as the game went on and I believe the better team prevailed. I honestly dont think our boys knew how good they were and are actually and evidently some fans didn't and still don't know. Good grief, I ain't taking nothing from Lamar Lamar is a real good team and for the last several year they have been way better than Cassville......way better, but I believe Cassville is better this year and I believe if they played again Cassville would beat them again. Its ok for another team to actually be better than Lamar some years without saying Cassville just got lucky and Lamar got outcoached. But if it will make u feel better I will............Lamar got outcoached outplayed and outscored last nite, and I believe the better team won. Now lets go Wildcats and work on bringin home that championship if thats ok with u, and would like to see Lamar bring one back as well......................WOW

That’s easy to say when we won. A win is a win. But it’s evident Lamar’s coaches didn’t make adjustments or proper ones. Yes I hope both teams go far as well. I think it’s ok to say we escaped with one. That’s also not taking anything away. We played the game, and fed off of what we saw. But proper adjustments would stop the running up the middle. Just saying.

What adjustments were there to make by Lamar at halftime? Lamar controlled the game in the first half. Cassville did make key adjustments especially on defense. I don’t know what Lamar should have done different at halftime. They were in control of the game. Outside of discipline adjustments for penalties I don’t know what any coach would have changed.
