Any thoughts on this one? CJ was said to be one dimensional against Webb but I think it's dangerous to overlook the bulldogs. Will Buck retool and find a winning formula? Carthage put on an exceptional performance against Nixa. As long as they are focusing on this game and not looking ahead to Joplin I think Carthage should make up for last year's embarrassment.

I've read or heard a few references lately to CJ's "complicated offense" and Coach Buck as an offensive genius. What is complicated about CJ's offense compared to other teams? Can someone enlighten me? Aside from his sometimes unusual persona and perplexing attempts at big plays?

They run some route combos from the mid range of the field that you don’t see many high schools, at least around here do. He’s a very good offensive coach, the only thing that drives me nuts is not having his tackles be in a 3 point stance and not exploiting the middle of the field more in the passing game with running backs. But I am an armchair coach in every sense of the word.

CJs offense is actually not complex at all. As far as the running game it’s all zone. As far as passing game it really is basic combo routes. I would say it’s probably one of the less complex offenses around. People see no-huddle and all of the “stuff” going on on the sideline and think it’s complex. It’s fairly simple. All of the boards and hand signals are telling them very basic things.

In 55 of the 70ish snaps against webb Joe Kennedy had the ball ....contain him and they have no answer

A friend of mine who was at the Webb game last week said the same thing. Seems kind of hard to believe that there isn't even one person who can step up.

Some of the kids are not being played to their strengths. It seems they need to change back to what they do well. Example: handoff to WR running east to west---that's not what he does well---he's good at running up the middle of the defense to get 3-4 hard yards or using a physical RB on defense instead.
I don't know, but it's confusing to watch very good players suddenly change.
Who was the RB for the sophomore class when they went undefeated for the last 2 years?

I think Carthage will hang around for a couple of quarters, but if they have trouble containing Kennedy like they did last year, Carl Junction will pull away in the second half. Carthage will have to play nearly perfect football if they want to pull off the upset.

Would Carthage winning really be an upset? I don't think this is a gimme game by any stretch of the imagination but it's totally different than last year.

Maxpreps has CJ as about a 20 point favorite and CalPreps gives Carl Junction a 91 percent chance of winning.
