St. Charles West head coach Pat Steinhoff and his two assistant Jeremy Jackson and Justin Foust appear to have the ideal game plan as the # 14 seed the St. Charles West Warriors 4-3 defeated Erwin Claggett and his # 3 seed St. Louis University High Jr. Billikens 6-4 @ Meramec. The score was 50-48.

It will not be any easier for the upset minded SCW Warriors as the # 6 Jennings Warriors 7-0 will square off on Monday @ 4:30 PM.

The first round games @ Meramec today will be:

# 7 Desmet 5-1---# 10 Lafayette 3-2 @ 12:00

# 2 CBC 3-4-----# Troy 3-4 @ 1:30 PM

Two big quarter-final action today .( Sunday )

# 1 Hazelwood Central 8-1 - # Parkway West 7-0 @ 6:30 PM--If talent has anything to do with who wins this game. Coach Josh Martin and his Hazelwood Central Hawks will advance but things will heat up in the semi-finals for the Hawks because of Webster or Vianney will be calling.

# 4 Webster 6-0--# 5 Vianney 6-2 @ 8 00 PM--Vianney 's Carte'Are Gordon 6'8-Soph. will be playing against his older brother Chris Gordon 6'5" Senior who plays for Webster. Yes indeed, Jay Blossom and his highly rated and undefeated Webster Groves Statesmen are a little on edge because of the return of outstanding guard Zack Colletta 6'2" who has been out because of injures and the unstoppable Carte'Are Gordon who most likely will dominate the post area.

Thanks, Bears for the Meramec bracket post.

Big quarter final action:

Hazelwood Central defeated a very good Parkway West team tonight 73-57. The game was much closer then the final score. Parkway West has talent with size and is a top 10 team in St. Louis but the Hawks have the talent to win this tournament.

Webster defeated a very good Vianney team 60-52 in another contest that could have gone either way. Webster is very quick and made the adjustment to win the game in the middle of the 4th quarter. Webster was down by 8 points late in the 3rd quarter when the Statesmen hit 4 three pointer to get back in the game. The game goes back and forth. Vianney made 3-4 costly mistakes and Webster goes up by 6-7 points in the early part of the 4th quarter. Webster coach Jay Blossom called for a " Lay in only" and Vianney could not keep up the organization and the quickness of the Statesmen. It was just a matter of making a few free throws and lay ups for Webster to win 60-52.

Vianney has a very good team and will play Parkway West in the 5th place bracket. Parkway West has the talent to win but so does Vianney.

Webster play Hazelwood Central in the semi-finals. Both teams have athletes but the Hawks have more size and a deeper bench which will hurt the Statesmen. Webster Groves must come up with a superior game plan to have a chance to defeat the Hawks. Hazelwood Central wins in an up and down game, the Hawks also win in quarter court game. What can the Statesmen do to win this game? I see only one way and that's a game plan that the fan would not like.
