A look ahead to 2024...an investigation

As others have already said, Blair Oaks 2 year window is WIDE OPEN to be really good. The kid moving from Southern Boone is the real deal. With BO coaching and not having to play both ways, he will be even harder to stop. Their option attack with the returning QB (Bax), returning RB (Lackman), and the move-in all being Juniors will be special.
So is he for sure going to BO or is he going to Helias? Keep hearing rumors both ways here in town.

I meant at Helias you rascal.
No seriously at Helias. All donors that send in donations to the scholarship fund goes into one pot. Lets say the raise 500k for the year. It would be roughly 1k off each students tuition for the year.

Dang Noone repping the Rock on here, if I remember correctly their upcoming junior class is good
Thought about that also, but they lose a TON from this year. Wouldn't ever bet against that coaching staff from being right back in the mix though.

But if I remember correctly you have to be Catholic to get the reduced tuition from scholarship fund. So Hangman you are correct some students tuition would be higher.

I've only heard Blair Oaks. Also, to me it makes no sense to buy a house in the Blair Oaks district when he wouldn't have to move if he was going to Helias.

Unless you wanted to be closer to school. But I have heard BO more than Helias here lately.

Honestly there are probably several rumors out there by now, that's why I'm waiting to see how this all shakes out.

All I know is he was at Blair Oaks the week before Thanksgiving enrolling in classes, and last I heard was supposed to be starting there on December 11. His mom bought a house in the Blair Oaks school district up the street from people I personally know.

The first I've heard of him going to Helias was today by your post.

Jackson and Cape Central return a lot.
Jackson returns Parsons at QB, Hampton at RB, Crow at WR, and 4 of their 5 Oline. Their defense takes a hit though, They lose their whole line(4 guys that rotated the 3 down spots), and 3 of their back 8.

Central returns Spain and Pittman(missed 2023 with an injury) at QB, both backs in Boyd and Thomas, the whole WR crew including Murray(missed 2023 with an injury), their TE in Sims, and 3 of their 5 OL.
The defense takes some hits but still returns a few DLine, 2 of their 3 LB, and 3 of their 5 on the backend. The key thing for Central is getting back those who missed 2023 with injury(4 potential starters missed the entire year)

Both teams should be destined for solid years in 2024.

Their pass defense struggled, but their run defense was really good, teams didn't have success running on them.
Any way you look at it, they gave up 20 point per game on the year. In the play-offs, that bumped up to 28.5 points a game. They had everyone back, but 1 player on defense didn't they? Several injuries played a part in that from what I saw. Losing an all-state D-Line (that's just a soph) hurts a lot.

I had heard awhile back he was looking at this way. But if he was BO signing up then looks like he made his decision. Great pickup for BO.

But the non catholic athletes (for some) do not pay anything. Not just Helias, Tolton and many other private schools are the same.

They played a lot of new faces in the secondary. Hagner and Closser were the only returners, but Hagner didn't play a full year (4 games) his junior year because of injury, Hagner also missed several games this year as well. Closser was a corner that they moved to safety. I personally think it was just combination of inexperience/youth with several of the players that played, and also a lack of height and size. There is only so much you can realistically ask a 5'6"-5'7" 140-150 pound player to do against some of the athletes and players they went against this year.

This year was probably overall the best offenses and certainly best passing offenses they have faced for an entire season. If you look at the teams that relied heavily on the run they didn't do well against BO, examples California and Moberly. They even shut out Hallsville and Eldon that had solid offenses, but not what I would call good. Overall, they played 6 games with offenses that averaged over 40 points a game, and several more that were in the 30's. Maryville, Lutheran North, Seaman, Southern Boone twice and PHC all had good to really good offenses. Boonville and Westminster had good passing games, not so much running.

Will he get tuition assistance?

Hannibal returns 4 on offense and 5 on Defense. Hannibal be a mid type of team and goes 6-3 in regular season and make it to the district championship
Hannibal will be young next year, but with some experienced guys in some key positions. They need to replace 4 of 5 OL and 4 of their top 5 DL. Obvioulsy losing Aneyas hurts, but they will have some very good young skill guys plus their other top RB and QB back for their senior years. The non-conference schedule will also look different as Lutheran St. Charles replaces JC, and Ft Zumwalt West replaces Battle.

Joplin-next year they will have 2 good classes left but those are the junior and senior classes. They will field a strong varsity team but won't have much behind their starters.

Carl Junction- The best class will be their freshman class. It is kind of hard to know how freshman will transition to varsity. They may be a lot better at the end of the year than at the beginning.
