8-man rumors

sorry to hear that.. was looking at MSHSAA numbers and noticed that Lockwood is the smallest class 1 at 87 without Golden City... GC has 45... Miller is the next smallest at 137...
Yeah, and Lots of I70 schools. Prbly why rumors are floating around about several going down or moving conferences

Santa Fe is going to 8-man starting next year. I also was told Jasper has already moved to 8-man, sorry if that was already said in this thread.

Jasper is voting next week I believe. However, I have heard it will most likely pass.

In the WEMO, Jasper has already voted to move to 8-man and Archie will vote on it next week.
8-man coaches' Twitter page says Archie has decided to go. Also being reported on a local radio station, for what that's worth.

Some conference realignment talk going on currently too.

Adrian and Midway are leaving the Wemo for football is what I've heard and Jasper Voted over a week ago and are going 8 man and so is Archie.... Archie Had decided before the season was half over and it's a done thing.

Where are Adrian and Midway going? I would think there would be limited options.

Not sure where but that's what I was told and 1 of a few reasons Jasper moved 8 man. The school council member told me their hands were tied and had no choice bc I guess Midway and Adrian informed Jasper they were moving on and Jasper would've been an independent and had to find 8 games to fill a schedule with Butler and El do springs being the only games scheduled already

I think you have some bad info. They aren't leaving the WEMO... I'd say the WEMO left them and went 8-man. Pretty sure Adrian and Midway will both be independents next year.

I think the 11-man teams remaining in Kaysinger, I-70 and WEMO will get together and work something out. The I-70 and Kaysinger already had done that to play each other. Santa Fe was to play Lincoln, Tipton and Windsor next year. Concordia and Sweet Springs needs to decide quickly what they are doing. That affects other teams.

The info is from a school board member who was there when they called. Take it as you want but I bet their In a different Conference next year or looking for the following year

Kaysinger and I70 are merging for football but not other sports, so the I70 for football should be the way it is now plus Cole Camp, Lincoln, Windsor and minus the teams that go 8 man. Also minus Lone Jack because they have applied for the MRVC

Think this is already happening with Lincoln adding Adrian

Adrian should be commended for their loyalty to a long-time conference, but they're starting to look like a kid who is still loyal to a t-shirt he has outgrown by two sizes. It may look like a muscle shirt, and he may feel tough, but it isn't helping him out in the long run. They may need to go somewhere that can help them better prepare for post-season runs. They need more prep than just the Midway game.

Still a lot of unknowns so I won't list teams yet, but some merging and growth looks likely in the central part of the state.
I can confirm, but I am not ready to list anything yet either since nothing is official (except for the things I previously posted, those are official)

I'm not sure Adrian needs any commending when it comes to "their loyalty" to WEMO Football. My understanding is every Superintendent in the WEMO agreed to offer Butler & Sherwood membership in the WEMO a few years ago (which would have made the WEMO 6 teams this past year). With the intention of allowing the conference the ability to have a viable 8 Man & 11 man division in Football. Easing the ability to fill schedules, lowering the need to schedule 3a & 4a schools. Also providing an opportunity for schools to move between 8-Man & 11-Man in down years. My understanding is that Adrian's School Board over ruled these additions to the conference. In essence vetoing the will of all the conference's Superintendents including their own. I'm not sure why they "vetoed" theses additions, but it was a major nail in the coffin of the 11 man WEMO conference. I can tell that Midway is effectively now a 1a independent program because of that vote and it appears to have helped push Archie & Jasper towards 8-man.

They are wanting to join the MRVC East? Why? I know there are other sports but they can’t win in the I-70. Do they think they will improve that much by 2022?
Only thing I can come up with is that they are growing extremely fast (which they are) and they think that being in the MRVC will get them some of the Lee's Summit move in kids.

I'm not sure why and my assumptions as to why they imploded the 11 man WEMO conference don't matter, but I can tell that Midway is effectively now a 1a independent program because of that vote.
Are you saying that Adrian vetoed allowing Butler and Sherwood into the conference? Wouldn’t matter much now anyway, there would now be four 11-man team which is where the Kaysinger is.

Well 5 b/c Jasper wouldn't have gone 8 man. Adrian and Midway moving on was a major reason we (Jasper) went 8man. Jasper will have close to 30 next year playing 8 man and a lot of the players arent happy about it. Also to my understanding Archie might have stayed 11 man if those 2 teams joined making it 6 team Wemo. Heard their biggest reason was lack of schedule not interest in the team

I don’t think you answered my question, are you saying the Adrian school board vetoed those two coming into the conference? Do they have that power? I will ask someone from Adrian if that is a true statement, and maybe it is.

If I remember it was on the table a few years ago when they (Wemo Conference) accepted Jasper and Liberal and turn others down. I do know when that vote was held there was more than 2 teams they voted on that night with only Jasper And Liberal being ok'd but I dont remember the others.

Oh well, if Jasper starts with success, and people moan about them doing it with 30 players, at least you can reply that the school had no choice, plus still met the criteria for 8-man. It seems a schedule can more be easily be made with 8-man schools than 11-man, as Jasper is kind of on an island with no 11-man schools in the vicinity. The conference is 8-man now, and this is the only way to receive conference honors and a possible title. Good luck next year, Eagles!

My understanding is that it had to be unanimous by all schools. Administration makes recommendations to their school boards. All the other school boards were OK with their Administrations requests, Adrian's was not. They did not want Sherwood or Butler in the conference to my understanding. I don't know what their reasoning was, but I can see the repercussion of how it affected the other schools.
