Saw Rock vs. St. Pius

Plucky 7on7 type of finesse team in St. Pius X taking on Rock.

Result:
Rock 6.44 yards per carry
St. Pius 2.14 yards per carry

The turnovers by Rock added to the intrigue and made it seem close. But pretty dominant performance by Rock.

First Half
Rock 106 Rushing 62 passing
SP 14 Rushing and 109 passing. Pius stuffed entirely on the run in the first half.

Second Half
Rock 126 Rushing 92 Passing
SP 44 Rushing 59 Passing.
I think this will turn out to be a very good experience for Pius. Moving all the way up to C5 it gives them a taste of what it will take to succeed vs. the top teams in that class talent rich as they are this year.

I haven't seen Pius...how do you thinnk they stack up against the other C5 contenders in the KC area?

Surprise of the Night?

I was curious how Pius schedule works for district seedings since the rest of their schedule is all under C5? Strange thing for Fort is they will have two C6 (Truman and Oak Park) on top of their C4 loss. I have no idea how that works so I was wondering if someone did..
Top I had no idea of the rule in high school where as long as a field goal attempt crosses the goal line it is a touchback. I've never seen it used, but why wouldn't every team with a soccer player do that if they are any where near the 50. The punting is so atrocious many times it would be a huge advantage on field position. I think Kearney did one from their own 35 in the first.
It's all a point system, so it will be based on wins and losses, opponent's record, and margin of victory. You get bonus points for playing up a class, but no deduction for playing down a class.

1. Earning Points:

a. Points for Game Result
Win/Receiving Forfeit: 20
Loss: 10
Overtime Loss: 15
Forfeiting: 5

b. Points for Playing Up (11-Man)
i. 10 points per class played up (i.e. Class 1 plays a Class 3, 20 points earned)
ii. No penalty for playing down
iii. No play up points will be awarded to either team when a contest is forfeited prior to the start or a team refusing to complete the contest.
iv. Play up points will be awarded when a contest is played and forfeit occurs due to the use of an ineligible player.

c. Points for Strength of Schedule
i. Sum of the win/loss points of all opponents’ games less your point contribution to the sum.
ii. Count of all opponents’ games less your games against opponents.
iii. Forfeits: If a school has forfeited a contest; opponent’s strength of schedule points will be calculated at 10 points.

d. Points for Score Differential: Points are accumulated by the difference between your score and opponent’s score in each game.

Positive points in a win and negative points in a loss. Maximum points: +13 or -13

2. Calculating Points:
a. Sum of Win/Loss points divided by number of games
b. Sum of Play-Up points divided by number of games
c. Strength of Schedule points divided by Total Games
d. Sum of Score Differential points divided by number of games
e. Add the calculations from a-d to determine seed points

3. Seeding
a. Each teams’ seed points are calculated
b. Teams are seeded from highest to lowest by highest point total to lowest in comparing district team seed points.

4. Applying the Automatic Switch: If two teams have played head-to-head and their seeds are consecutive they will be switched if the lower seed has beaten the higher seed (for example, the #2 seed beats the #1 seed head to head; they will be switched). Once a switch has been made, that team is protected from being switched again (for example, the #1 seed cannot be switched with the #3 seed). This process will start from the higher seed and work down through each seeded position.

What was Webb Celebration penalty for??

The fun in a game is beating the other team. But in all honesty, in the grand scheme, this one seems minor. I don’t mind it though. When I look at what has become accepted in the MLB, I’m okay with this. What is commonplace now would’ve incited a brawl five years ago.

It’s weird with my view on this stuff. I’ve often said I miss the personalities in sports, especially coaches. I miss Bum Phillips and Jimmy Johnson and Barry Switzer. But there’s also a side of me that gets irritated when I see a celebration for EVERY SINGLE positive play during a contest too. Make a 3, shoot your stupid arrow. Score a TD, flip into the end zone and do some pre-planned expertly choreographed dance move. Hit a HR, stand in the batters box and stare it down, turn to your dugout, flip the bat four rows deep and take 5 mins to circle the bases. There’s gotta be a middle ground in there.
I agree with this. And I actually agree kids should have fun playing a game. If you want to be a jack wagon on the pga or a singles tennis match or other individual sport, that’s the time to do so. I partly love football because it is a great team sport. I don’t like the “look at me” stuff when you score a TD. How about a high five and pointing to the other 10 guys that got you there. That would be way classier. Mike Eruzioni will forever been remembered as the team captain and the guy that danced and showboated on the medal stand….No. As the guy that made sure the entire team joined him on the medal stand. Roderique embodied the Quote “ great things can accomplished when nobody cares who gets the credit”. That has been replaced by “You guys block and I’ll bask in the spotlight in a look at me moment”.

Big 8 Picks

What kept it close in the second half?
Son and I went to Seneca thinking it would be the better of the two “closer” games to us Friday night. Watched one half of that game, was 35-6 at the half and should have been 42-6 (Seneca was stopped at 1 as time expired) on the final play of the first half.

While checking scores, read that Lamar and McDonald County was 18-14 second quarter so we decided to make a beeline to Anderson for that game. Got there with 10 minutes left in the third quarter.

From what we watched … McDonald County has a southpaw quarterback who can sling it. He looked good, except he threw an interception in the end zone that was costly and found out earlier in the game he threw an interception right to the Lamar linebacker who was able to take it back for a score.

Second costly mistake by McDonald County was in the fourth quarter, had Lamar in a third and 24 situation and they converted it into a first down with over 3 minutes left. I assumed Lamar would run it for a first down and kill the clock and leave with the victory.

Nope, Lamar passed for a touchdown and a 32-14 lead.

McDonald County drove down and scored with 18 seconds left and no timeouts remaining to make it 32-21. Then they immediately recovered the onside kick, first play a touchdown pass and 11 seconds left. Mustangs went for 2, got it and a 32-29 score.

Lamar recovered the second onside kick and that was the ballgame. Should have gone to Anderson from the start.
